2017 Kansas City Team Challenge
The KC Team Challenge is a match play event consisting of 3 rounds. Each round is a different format. Round 1 – Best Shot Doubles. Round 2 – Alt Shot Doubles. Round 3 – Singles. All round are match play and each match-up is worth 1 point. There is a total of 36 points are given out. The team with the most points after 3 rounds gets their names engraved on the Traveling KC Team Challenge Trophy.
Round 1 Recap – Saturday June 24th @ Lakeside Hills, Olathe, KS
The 2017 Kansas City Team Challenge is under way. The first round of this match play event started out at Lakeside Hills in Olathe, KS. This highly anticipated event lived up to the hype. Both teams, Kansas (west) and Missouri (east), came out and put it all on the line in this round 1 battle.
On paper, the East Side looked unstoppable. The West Side, missing some key players from previous years, looked somewhat like a wounded duck. But with key match-ups and solid play of the West Side, they took a classic round 1 lead by taking 5.5 points, leaving the East Side with the remaining 3.5 points.
East Side looks to bounce back in round 2 when the Kansas team travels to Legacy Park in Lee’s Summit, MO for Alternate Shot Dubs. There are 9 points up for grabs
The Final round of Singles match play will stay at Legacy is worth 18 points. One of these impressive teams, made up of some the best players in KC, will walk away with their names engraved on the KC Team Challenge Traveling Trophy.
Thank you to everyone who qualified and showed up for the event. This is quickly becoming one of the most coveted events to play in every year.
To those who didn’t get in this year, but want to see some of the action, you are more than welcome to come out to Legacy tomorrow to watch all the action. The morning round will roll off of Hole #1 approximately @ 10 am. And don’t forget to check the calendar next year for your chance to play in one of the qualifiers.

Round 2 and 3 Recap – Sunday June 25th @ Legacy Park, Lee’s Summit, MO
We started out the Sunday’s Round 2 with Alternate Shot Doubles. The East side flexed their muscle on the long and hairy course, taking down the West Side by an overall 3 point victory. Leaving the KS players down 1 point overall in the standings.
Round 2 Results:
WEST – 3 Points (Overall 8.5 Points)
EAST – 6 Points (Overall 9.5 Points)
Round 3, the final round of Singles play is the toughest test for the 2 teams. With 18 points up for grabs, anything can happen. The captains choose each player with the utmost care, making sure to seize on their strengths and each other weaknesses. As the cards went out, both teams found themselves confident in their match-ups. As each card came in, everyone would perk up and watch the players walk up the final hill towards the shelter, hoping to hear “I won” from their perspective team. As the last 3 cards slowly came in, the West side started to watch their chances of a 5X repeat slipping away.
Ultimately, there can only be one champion. While there were some surprise KS victories, the East side proved to be to much this year edging out the West side by 2 points. Final Score – West Side 17 Points – East Side 19 Points.
