The 37th Annual Kansas City Wide Open is June 14 through 16, 2019. Registration is open on Disc Golf Scene.
The 2019 KCWO is a PDGA sanctioned tournament at the A tier level for all professional players with a cap of 180 players, with some wiggle room. All professional players will play three rounds on tee times. The PDGA requires $3000 added cash for all professional players. We expect to exceed that amount by a substantial margin, but it’s listed at the minimum on Disc Golf Scene at this time.
The KCWO is sanctioned at a B tier for all amateur players. The Amateur cap is also 180, but it is a hard cap. Assuming we exceed 90 amateur players, the amateurs will be divided into two pools.
All amateur players will get an A tier experience. We sanctioned the tournament at the B tier level so that amateur players who are not PDGA members or not current PDGA members may participate in the event for the $10 temporary membership that the PDGA requires. We understand that fewer PDGA points are available in B tiers, but we made a conscious choice in that trade off. We expect the value of the tournament to exceed the A tier requirement of 110%.
At the Advanced and Intermediate divisions, players should expect a smaller player’s pack and a larger payout.
The Recreational, Novice, and Junior players will received a larger player’s pack. Those divisions are trophy only.
This year’s edition of the KCWO will feature beautiful Water Works Park (1 round) and Wyandotte County Park (2 rounds) for professional players. Swope on a Rope transforms to WyCo on a Wire for this event!
Assuming two amateur pools, the amateur divisions will play three rounds – WyCo on tee times, Water Works on a shotgun start, and Bad Rock Creek on a shotgun start. Our intention is for amateur players to be able to compete and then travel to WyCo to watch the professionals. We understand it’s a bit of a drive to WyCo, but we think it will be worth it!
On behalf of our 2019 tournament director Christopher Timko, assistant TD Jerry Patterson, and the Kansas City Flying Disc Club, we hope to see you at the 2019 Kansas City Wide Open!
