Sep 1 Sat
Old Settler’s Open
Sep 1 all-day
Sep 8 Sat
East vs. West Championship
Sep 8 all-day

Mark your calendars, the first qualifiers will be here sooner than you think. There will be two qualifiers for each side held at leagues in your region:

For the West team:
- Rosedale league on Aug 8th (3 Open, 1 Masters and 1 Woman)
- Wyco league on Aug 24th. (4 Open, 1 Masters)
For the East team:
- Waterworks on Aug 16th (3 Open, 1 Masters and 1 Woman)
- Swope league on Aug. 28th (4 Open, 1 Masters)

You’ll just participate in league as usual.  But be sure to check in with me.  If you have not paid for sponsor/entry prior to that league start, you will not be competing for a spot.

The division you play in for league doesn’t define what division you’ll qualify in.  You can play Am and still qualify for an Open spot.  Masters age players can play in Open division and qualify as a Master.  They can also play in Masters and qualify as Open.   It’s all based on scores.  Highest scoring woman gets that slot.  Highest scoring Master gets that slot, unless he is also in one of the top Open slots.  In which case, the Captain will decide which slot he wants to assign to that Master. If the Captain decides to give the Master an Open slot, then the next highest Master aged score will get the Master slot (unless, of course, that Master also shot well enough to be in the top Open slots, in which case repeat Captain decision process).

Don’t worry, it’s not as confusing as it might seem.  Soon after each league qualifier is complete, we’ll announce who made it.  Remember qualifiers are not the only way into this event.  5 spots on each team will be determined by lottery picks(2) and Captains selection(3).

Jan 26 Sat
Ice Bowl 2013
Jan 26 – January 28, 2013 all-day

KC Ice Bowl 2013

Ice Bowl follows these rules: No Postponements, No Cancellations, No Wimps, No Whiners!

Every January and February, in cities and towns across North America and a few in Europe, Ice Bowls are held to raise money for charities, most of which help fight hunger. The 232 Ice Bowl events in 2012 raised over $300,000. Since 1996, over $2 million have been raised via Ice Bowl® disc golf tournaments.

Last year’s Kansas City Ice Bowl raised a total of $8,000, which was split equally between Harvesters and Bishop Sullivan Center. This year’s goal is $10,000.

The 26th Annual KC Ice Bowl is produced by the Kansas City Flying Disc Club, and will once again feature casual competition, lunch, and fun.

Volunteers and Donations

Volunteers are needed to help the weekend of the event. If you are interested in helping out- even if it’s just a few hours, please contact Ben Crosby. Phone: 785-393-1555 Email: icebowl@kcfdc.org

We encourage the KC disc golf community to download and print the Pledge Sheet and ask your friends and family to help out by pledging money for each hole you play at Ice Bowl.

We also depend on donated prizes for the CTP Contest, such as new discs, clothing, gift certificates, or most anything that people might like to win. Bring donations to the Ice Bowl, to Disc Golf World, or to Ben Crosby.

Registration

The standard $16 entry includes a hot stamped commemorative DX disc, nested mini set, lunch on Sunday, and at least $8 to our charities. You may choose another disc for your entry disc by paying the upgrade charge listed on the registration form.

Registration available at Disc Golf World

The best way to sign up is to visit Disc Golf World because you can pick up your player’s package disc and mini set, as well as purchasing clothing, other plastic, CTP tickets, and mulligans. All purchases enhance our charitable donations.

If you can’t make it to DGW, you can call 816.471.3472 and register with a bank card. Or you can fill in your registration form and mail it, along with a check to 509 E 18th St, KCMO 64108. Or you could fill at an entry and then scan it with payment information to icebowl@discgolfworld.com. Or you can fax your entry to 816.471.4653. In these cases, you will pick up your schwag at the Ice Bowl, unless you want to stop by to pick it up earlier.

Can’t Play This Year? Why Not Make a Donation?

CTP Tickets and Mulligans

A KC Ice Bowl tradition is the ongoing CTP (closest-to-the-pin) contest. Last year’s top prize was a target. A person may only win one prize with the winner choosing first from the prize table. There might be a raffle this year as well. If this happens, your ticket can be used for either activities. Another tradition is the use of mulligans during the first round. All the money from these activities go directly to our charities.

When Are You Playing?

There is competition at the Ice Bowl, and even though it’s not to be taken too seriously, we still want as many people as possible to play at least one round of golf on Saturday or Sunday morning. For those who want the chance to win something, the nine-hole “money” round is played Sunday afternoon. Players are ranked by their scores from the first round, which means you’ll be very closely matched with the others on your card. You’ll be told which nine holes you’ll play. The player on each card with the best total score wins a DX disc. The person with the very best score is the Ice Bowl Champion and gets to keep the traveling trophy for one year.

Potluck Lunch and Chili Contest

Chili Contest

One of the best traditions of the KC Ice Bowl is bringing food to share, especially chili, which automatically gets entered into the Chili Contest, which awards a grand prize. Is your chili the best?! Bring out a crock or 2 and let’s find out. Contact Rhonda Crosby at 785-424-3672 for more information on the chili contest.
