Title: KCFDC pdga league wandering Wednesday
Post by: MK on March 15, 2017, 12:55:59 PM
And so it begins with a chilly Wednesday evening,  tonight March 15.  We will start with a Battle of Blue Valley preview, heading to a shortened Blue Valley (Mo) course.

Sign up at 445, cards of three ideally out at 500.  Sunset is 7:26, civil twilight ends at 7:56.  Lights will be allowed if needed due to conditions.

KCFDC Divisions offered, based on past participation:

Cash payout
Open
Masters

Funny money payout
Advanced Men
Advanced Women
Intermediate Men

Pdga divisions will be only Open (pro) and Advanced Men (am).  Those divisions give the most points.  Ratings do not change because of divisions.  League wins don't count on your pdga history.

Cost: $5 for KCFDC members and $6 for non-members.  Add a buck for the ace fund.  The ace fund for the traveling league starts at $210.

This is a 7 week pdga league.  These ratings will be in by the deadline so they will count for the KCWO, if you need rated rounds for the performance flight.

Schedule:

Mar 15 Blue Valley modified
Mar 22 Rosedale up top, before they start their league. 515 tee.
Mar 29 Swope, using some alt baskets.  Putting competition at Crane Brewery after league to support the KC Diva Feeva. 515 tee.
Apr 5 Bad Rock Creek layout TBD.  530 tee.
Apr 12 Water Works (battle of Water Works preview) - Scott Reek can preview the NGT at Heritage that evening :) 530 tee.
Apr 19 - Shawnee Mission Park.  All tall grass OB.  Just kidding.  Layout TBD.  I will change it from the Tuesday layout Matthew Jenkins does, at least a little. 545 tee
Apr 26 - Cliff Drive (City of Fountains layout,  if I can get Scott to name the setup and Jack or drew to help with baskets)  545 tee.

End of 7 week session.

Session 2 will start with Blue Valley CoF layout on May 3.  Look for more tournament previews, including a trip to Blackthorn on May 17.  I may be alone as Smithville is a ways to travel.

3.15 Layout from the BBV event page:

Here it is folks! The layout for the Battle of Blue Valley! using a combination of the two courses out there. I think everyone will enjoy the track!

Rosedale up top this week.

445 sign up, tee at 515.

We will play the nickels.  The only OB is roads and over, parking lots and over, tennis court, any ball fields, skate park, etc.  No mandatories. On hole 9, if the paint is still there from the Rosedale Cup, use the paint, which is inside the rocks.  I will check.

See ya at Rosie by hole 1 on Wednesday!

It's supposed to quit raining by league time tomorrow!

The KCFDC Wandering Wednesday league wanders to Bad Rock Creek in Liberty, MO tomorrow evening, with a 5:30 tee off.  Sign up as soon as I get there.

No mandos, no tall grass OB, just roads and over and fences and over for OB.  Oh, and ponds.  If your drive goes into the pond on 2 or 15, the short pad is the DZ.  All other shots that go in the water, play from where it went OB.

Longs to blues with these exceptions:

6 - short to stump
12 - short to Gold
16 - short to Gold

See ya tomorrow night at Stocksdale Park in Liberty!

What's up with traveling league tonight? Are you planning to play SMP?

Thanks for the reminder Josh!

Today we head to Shawnee Mission Park for a 20 hole layout.

Thanks to Matthew Jenkins for moving the baskets around.  He is running the SMP Tuesday league now after I ran it for a couple years.

$5 for KCFDC members and  $6 for non-members, add a buck for the ace fund.  Sign up when I get there, tee off around 545, but I can roll cards out if I know someone is coming.

Oops.  Need to post SMP results still.  In the meantime...
Tomorrow is the last evening of the first seven week session of the pdga league!

So far we've raised another $75 or so for the kc disc golf divas.  How does that work?  For pdga leagues, we are required to collect an extra dollar.  50 cents goes to the PDGA.  50 cents goes to whatever I want.  I did payouts once, but it was a pain in the rear really for not much payout.  I did trophy discs over the winter, and paid for supplies and hand warmers and such.

Usually though, I take the first $25 and repay myself for the league registration fee.  Then what is left over, I donate to the kc disc golf divas.  #growthesport

From last summer's leagues, we donated a few hundred dollars to the divas - I don't remember the exact amount but I can post it later.  Part of that money, I didn't get to the divas until recently, but I had it available.

So thank you all for coming to my leagues and supporting women's disc golf in Kansas City!

Week 7 - Cliff Drive, City of Fountains layout

1- long right. 2-short. 3-only. 4-short. 5-short. 6-long right. 7-middle. 8-between the trees. 9-only.10-short left. 11-long. 12-only. 13-long. 14-short. 15-short. 16-long. 17-short. and 18-short right. he thought par would be 56. with 1 & 13 being 4s.

Thanks Bill Shinoski for letting me know the set up and thanks to Bill and Jack Lowe for moving baskets.

As always, $6 for KCFDC members and  $7 for non-members.  That includes a buck for the ace fund.

See ya tomorrow at Cliff Drive!  5:30 sign up, 6:00 tee off.  Cards of 3 rolling out early if I can.

Ps- ratings were supposed to be out today but were delayed until tomorrow.

36 out to my old stomping grounds at Shawnee Mission Park to play 20 holes in the wind.  Thanks everyone for coming out!  It was nice to see everyone and play a round with a couple guys I don't play with often.

Next week, we will finish the first 7 week session at Cliff Drive with the City of Fountains layout, if I can get Scott Reek to work with Jack Lowe, Derrick Holt, or Drew D. Neitzel to change the baskets by Wednesday.  I know it's GBO week, but I'll be running league at Cliff Drive!

Tomorrow night the KCFDC traveling pdga league is traveling to Smithville to challenge Blackthorn DGC!

We will be playing the Paradise Diamond set up.  See the attached map for hole distances and OB.

The text version with some explanations:

1.  489' tall grass and road OB
2.  294' road long OB
3.  228' water OB
4.  297' road left (not seen on map) and water OB
5.  186' water, road OB
6.  216' road, water (not seen on map) OB
7.  225' road, water OB
8.  216' road OB, water casual
9.  312' road, water OB
10.  336' road on right of pond OB, pond OB. If OB on drive, proceed to DZ.  OB shots after drive, follow usual OB rules
11.  237' road OB
12.  645' par 4 road OB
13.  363' tall grass, road OB
14.  660' par 4 road long OB
15.  615' par 4 road, water OB.  Mando right of tree.  Re-tee if you miss the mando.
16.  610' par 4 water, road OB.  If other OB is marked as on the map, we will play it.  Otherwise just the water left.
17.  300' water, road OB and OB long if marked, otherwise just road, water.
18.  411' water ONLY is OB. Road right us safe.

If I say road is OB, assume road and OVER.  The map doesn't look like road and over, but it is road and over.

I don't know when Scott Reek will be out to mark OB, so on 1 and 13 play tall grass OB to the best of your ability if it hasn't been marked.  Too close to call is safe.

All other tall grass is safe.

$5 for KCFDC members and  $6 for non-members.  Add a buck for the ace fund.

Sign up at 530 tee at 600.

See ya tomorrow in Smithville!

Results from the Battle of BRC layout.  No Travis Corporon your round was not rated 1000 no matter how many times you bug me.  my apologies for not getting scores up faster.  I figure one time in three years, it shouldn't be a big deal.  but I guess I am always supposed to have my computer, charger and results with me so I can upload them at a moment's notice.

Now that the Kansas City Wide Open is over, leagues are back to normal.  But, the weekend of June 24-25 will see a return of the annual epic struggle between good and evil - yes, it's time for East versus West, a KCFDC fundraiser event pitting the best of Kansas versus the best of Missouri.

On Wednesday June 14 the KCFDC Wednesday traveling league will head to the Missouri captain's  (Eric Eastwood) choice for alt shot doubles and singles, Legacy Park in Lee's Summit.  Those matches will be June 25, after best shot doubles on June 24 at Birdland in Olathe.

Sign up at 530, tee off at 600.  $5 for KCFDC members and  $6 for non-members.  Add a buck for the ace fund.

See you at Legacy Park Wednesday evening!

We will be playing the Battle of Cliff Drive layout with one exception, noted below:

5- short
6- left red pin
7- long

13- long pad 4
14- short
15- under tree
16- long water fountain
17- island hole par 4 (see note below)
18- short right pin

Roads and over, OB.   Reservoir OB.

Hole 12 - if OB on drive proceed to DZ with 1 shot penalty.  If down the hill on the right, you may proceed to DZ (optional) or play from where it comes to rest (or re-tee).

Hole 17 - for Battle of Cliff Drive, if you're OB on the 2nd throw, there will be a DZ, and island rules will apply.  I don't have time to get a waiver so we will play regular OB rules for league.  Play from the last place in bounds with a 1 stroke penalty.

See ya tomorrow at Cliff Drive!

The weather looks dreadful still for this evening's league.  We are scheduled to play Cliff Drive, but that's looking unlikely.  Cliff is already wet from the thunderstorms this morning.  I don't like cliff in the rain.  Jack Lowe doesn't like  cliff being played in the rain if at all possible.

I'll make a final announcement on league at 4 pm today, but if we have league, it will happen at Swope.

Looks like we're going to get some rain this evening.  Doesn't look like enough to cancel league, so it's a go.

So we will move to the kinder, gentler Swope Park.  Sign up at 530, tee at 600.  $5 for KCFDC members and  $6 for non-members.  Add a buck for the ace fund.

Tonight the KCFDC PDGA Traveling League is heading to Water Works Park to play the Wet n Wild layout.

A previous tentative league schedule had Wilbur Young listed, but that changed a few weeks ago.

530 sign up, 600 tee.  No dawdling.  It gets pretty dark by 830.  Yes, you may use lights if you're finishing after dark.

$5 for KCFDC members and  $6 for non-members.  Add a buck for the ace fund.

See ya at the tables!
