Who all is going down to this from KC?

Anybody else spending the night?

So far the ones I know for sure that are spending the night Billy, Bubba and me.

Was gonna call on some rooms...would rock if there was an indoor pool somewhere!

Go to our website for info about a special rate for Ice Bowl players at Lamplighter Inn.  I don't recall if they have an indoor pool or not but their link is on our website.  Go to www.pittdgc.110mb.com.  Let me know if you have any questions.

P.S.  One of the prizes I'll be giving away is a free room at the Holiday Inn Express...so tell me...do you feel lucky? LOL

Thanks

Kevin

Holiday Inn Express

Well wouldn't ya know it...that's the only hotel in Pittsburg that has the pool...and it is my birthday weekend and all! (hint hint)  ;D

Looking forward to getting back down there Kevin!

Weather report looks like maybe mid 40's, possible rain, possible snow!

I was at the local TV station at 6 am this morning promoting our event and the weather forecast they had is 53 degrees and 40% chance of rain.  Here is what weather.com has currently:

Friday:  60 degrees and sunny
Saturday:  60 degrees and 40% chance of rain

Usually on Monday we end up having Fridays forecast getting pushed to Saturday as the week goes on.  Either way it looks like decent weather is upon us for this weekend...wooohooo!

$1200+ in donations for our Ice Bowl!'

We will also be having a contest of some sort for a Discatcher Traveler basket.

WOW...back to where it all started...Pittsburg is my alma mater.

We designed a disc golf course there, in 1980-81, around the campus.

It was all trees and telephone poles, with on orange band 5ft up. You had to hit the target on or below the 5ft band.

And we all used the big 165's but there was one kid from California that had these odd discs...the ones we use today.

Would like to try to make this...it is the day after my birthday as well!

Dan

To all those GORILLAS out there...I work at the university and I'm in the process of working with the director of Student Recreation about having a tournament on campus sometime this year.  We have also discussed about adding a course to the master plan for our new sports complex on campus.  So maybe someday in the near future all you alumn can return to campus to play disc golf without having to throw to trees and telephone poles...lol.

The Pittsburg Ice Bowl was a blast. Thirty one players raised over $600 for Project Warmth and also canned goods were collected for the Wesley House. The local TV station was on hand as well as the local newspaper. A fairly short period of light rain occurred, but it was not too cold nor windy. There was a "run for the roses", a throw off for half the Ace fund, and a Ring of Fire. The City opened up the Lincoln Center for the event so we had a nice, heated meeting area, where lunch was brought in for all participants courtesy of Wheat State pizza.

I don't know all the scores but in the Open division of ten players, Russ Burns (Disc Golf Monkey) came in first, Patrick Wooley second, and representin KC at 11 down for the day was your's truly. I crashed chains but didn't stick three times during the thirty six holes of play, but two of the chain crashes would have been black Aces  :o

Maybe next year a KC crew can make it down to experience this well run, small town charm Ice Bowl.

There is a PDGA event being held in Pittsburg in April.

The turnout was great and I appreciated all those that attended.

The only bad thing that happened that day was someone stole one of our club baskets that we had set up.  A terrible ending to such a great day for us here in Pittsburg KS.

We have a PDGA C-tier event coming up and I think with the success of this years Ice Bowl we should really get the ball rolling for the sport of disc golf in our community.

Thanks again for any interest.

Driving back from Joplin, stopped by and played the fun 9 hole in Pittsburg. Wish I could have made the Ice Bowl this year.

Keep up the good work guys. Sorry to see many of the hole signs fallen apart. Do you know the cause of the sign failure?
