Title: remaining events 2013
Post by: jack on August 27, 2013, 09:14:52 AM
Since I am highly doubtful for the Old Settlers this year...it got me thinking about what events are left on the year.  I just wanna get some things done around the house, from all the neglect of the Wide Open, the Lion's Den, Worlds.....Challenge....Run for the Roses.....Mighty Mo.....:)

So we have the following as I see it-
8/31-Old Settlers-Olathe Courses
9/7-9/8-Fronteir Open-Hays
9/7-Dale Roberts Memorial-Nixa
9/7-Doubles Event-Lawrence
9/14-Tree Love Classic-Cliff Drive (SIGN UP NOW!)  ;D
9/21-Waterworks Work Day
9/21 Cliff Drive Workday (go to WW please if you wanna help this month, this is the Monthly workdays for Cliff Drive)
9/21-9/22-Mighty Shunga Nunga-Topeka
9/21-Roc Vs. Buzzz-Swope
9/27-9/29 4 States Open-Joplin
9/28-Big Brothers/Big Sisters Doubles event-Thornfield
9/28 Double Ogg Dare - PDGA C Tier Flex Start - Shawnee Mission
9/29-GVCCC-Des Moines
10/5-Commnuity Harvest in the Park-Cliff
10/5-FLWH-Thornfield
10/2-10/5-USDGC  ;D
10/6-Disc Golf World presents the Rosedale Amateur Championships (RAC)-Rosedale
10/19-CLIFF DRIVE WORKDAY (this is where it really starts to work on the new holes!)
10/26-10/27-Oklahoma Open
11/3-7th City of Fountains-Cliff Drive and Blue Valley
11/9-11/10-Club Championships-Local Courses TBD (Free to all club members, only play 1 round, that is OK!)
11/16-Club ELECTIONS-Westport Flea Market 6:30-9:00
11/23-Cliff Drive Work DAY

A few weeks in October look to be open.....I may experiment with my little 50/500 thing I threatened during that timeline.....stay tuned for more information, if you can think of other local (thinking within a couple of hours away-Hays is just well attended by many so I included it) events that I may be missing, let me know!  Lets finish out the year working on the courses to get them looking nice at the workdays, and play well during the organized events.  There aren't too many leagues left this year either, so get out and play some league before its too dark!

Harold, We need to set up a special Saturday traveling league for this kind of thing in the fall! One day, three courses, 54 holes, one DAMN GOOD TIME!!!!!!!

Great Idea! Maybe October 25, or a Saturday version of the FTL on the 26th? Maybe we can get one of our local disc golf retailers to make it official. And also make it an all tags, all in . . .

Hey Jack,

Need to add the DD Dirty Dozen Finale in Pawhuska. (Old Settler's, Frontier, GBO et al help qualify for bonus players package)

If you have not played these courses at The Lodge, this is a great event. These two long courses are spectacular and challanging.

$5 night camping, homecooked breakfast and lunch, poker tournament and college football on the big screen . . .

Love it! We can call it "PD2: The return to Paradise - The diamond isn't found in the rough" lol! I figured a Saturday would have a better turnout for an all day affair. Maybe create a crude trophy for this thing? I don't know, I'm just throwing out some wacky ideas to make it more interesting  :P We could have some serious fun with this!!!

I would be interested in doing something like this as a casual 54 hole event following the FTL casual all tag in format.  Unless someone else would rather do it.

So we have the following as I see it-

9/7-9/8-Frontier Open-Hays

There's a few of us already planning to head out to Hays on Friday. If you haven't played Frontier Park it's a treat. If you haven't given much thought to this event, think about it.

Where is the info on the BB/BS dubs at Thornfield on the 28th?  Got some friends that may want to play, and would like to send them the info.

Found this
http://www.bbbskc.org/site/c.atJTL8NOJqL8H/b.7540085/k.6B0F/Disc_Golf_Tournament.htm (http://www.bbbskc.org/site/c.atJTL8NOJqL8H/b.7540085/k.6B0F/Disc_Golf_Tournament.htm)

But why does it say $180 per team, $45 per player....if it is only a doubles tourney.  The Quads is on the 5th of Oct.

Looks like both Thornfield events (the 28th & 5th) are 4-person scrambles.  There are no doubles.

I am looking to help Bill Lentz  run a juniors/rec  event this year at Fox Hill on Oct 12.  Looks like that weekend is open.  Will post more info soon.

We need a good juniors event in KC.  Been awhile since we have done something like we had in the past at Yates with numbers in the 60+ range.

something along these lines  ...  ages   5-6,    7-8,   9-10,   11-13,   14-18,

still very early and got to figure out the format.  wanted to do one at Yates, but went to Fox Hill for this one.

As usual, John Theiss is doing the good work with out youth. Thank you.

On another note, Roc V Buzzz is one of our remaining events and if you have a preference of Roc or Buzzz, the KCFDC would love to see out there. Less than two weeks away. Sign up now at DGW or DD.

I'm willing to wager $20 at least one of the kids in my group win their prospective divisions. If anyone takes me up on this and I win the bet, all winnings will be donated to the group to help sponsor the remaining 9 holes needed to finish the course in McLouth.

Actually if there are several takers I'm going to lose more than $20. That's a $20 per person bet. There are between 5 - 10 kids that may show from the group I have been helping. I offered to sponsor any of the kids in my group willing to make it for this tourney.

Glover, still working out details...but we are a go and i am glad you have an enthusiastic group. We are looking to bring a top notch juniors event that offers affordability, fun,  competitive singles play, and family bonding with parent child dubs.

Will have info finalized by this weekend but here are the basics.

Event will likely cost 10 for singles and 15 for dubs(adult and child dubs).  All participants will get a disc.  Singles will likely pay out top 3 in each division, dubs is for bragging rights with no pay out.  all participants will get a raffle ticket for raffle at conclusion of event.

This event has been running at Fox Hill for many years before the disc course(with hula hoops. and frisbees..ya.. seriously!) as a United Way fundraiser and a portion of proceeds will continue to go to that.

Perhaps we should move the junior's event to its own thread.
