Tournaments / Re: 2013 AM Worlds in Emporia!
« on: June 15, 2012, 11:06:49 AM »
I emailed the PDGA yesterday, I'm at work so can't access my personal email, but what I understand is that points acquired in calendar year 2012 is what is counted for the 2013 tournament.  Points from any amateur division count.  While the cutoff may change for 2013, for 2012 (points from 2011) was 500 for Advanced, 200 for Advanced Masters, don't recall other Advanced divisions.  Search PDGA's website for the others.

Yeah, for the rest of 2012, I'm only playing PDGA sanctioned tournaments.  I want an invite.  I may place bottom 5% once I get there, but my intention is getting an invite so I don't have to wait to see if I can apply after the cutoff date.

We are up to 31 pre-registered players.

Last year the crowd was spread between 3-4 cards including the men's and women's leaders.

I thought the scene was much better this year with the entire gallery concentrated on the one group.

I think this idea should be considered again for finals in the future. When they were playing the modified hole 16, i saw quite a few people drive by very slowly with looks on their faces wondering what the hell was going on.

I totally agree with having the top 7 men & women play together.  I thought it was very cool.  The large gallery was great.  Having the ladies play with the men showed other people how good they really are.

I read on DGCourseReview that emac's bag was stolen tonight at Swope?

Morning rounds:
Player meetings at 8:10, tee off at 8:30

PM rounds:
Player meetings at 1 pm; tee off at 1:30

Sunday final 9 at 1:30

So the NT are playing 5 rounds, last one at Swope, plus top (whatever) play an additional 9 at Swope for a total of 27 Swope holes on Sunday?

NT, A, and B signup so far: 205
NT and A from last year: 172

205 - 34 B's = 171.

We are only 1 off from last year with a week to go yet.  I'm excited to play....

I've been actually thinking along these lines as well, but wasn't going to post.  Now the cat's out of the bag...

One thing may possibly be the Pro Purse.  GBO tends to be larger.  DD also seems to have a pretty big draw from TX and OK, KC is another 1.5 hr farther north.

I was surprised on how strong the Intermediate turnout was for GBO.  It may have to do that it is early in the year and people have cabin fever and want to get out and compete.

2011 DD players playing in the KCWO:

and more.

The Open signup will fill I believe.  It's an NT event, they want the NT points.  The B - tiers, I'm kind of wondering.

As a Novice signee, I would be up for having the Rec and Novice all put into a Novice pool.

Are the distances fr short BV posted anywhere?

General Banter / Wiggins New World Distance Record
« on: April 17, 2012, 12:17:05 PM »
Otter made reference of this in different thread, but surprised there isn'y much discussion about this:

"On Friday, April 13th, 16 year old David Wiggins Jr. launched a 134-gram Blizzard Champion Boss high into the desert sky. When it returned to earth, spotters confirmed the disc had traveled 836' (255m) and had broken the world distance record. A record that stood untouched for nearly a decade. David was competing in the the High Desert Distance Challenge III in Primm, NV (elevation 2618'). David's throw bested Christian Sandström's record of 820' that was set way back on April 26, 2002 with an Innova DX Valkyrie. "

Rumor has it some kid threw a 150 blizzard boss at WYCO from 3's tee to 17's fairway.  Clearly it was a piss-poor shot and ended in a 5 on the hole, but quite the chuck nonetheless...darn Kansas wind...

I watched him do it.  He was driving in that direction on purpose to have extra room while waiting for the tournie results.  Proly didn't hurt that EMac was sitting around watching.

Finished playing a solo round at Lawrence Centennial tonight at about 7:15.  While walking past the tee for hole 1 back to my car, Nate Doss, Valerie Jenkins and a third guy (I'm  pretty sure it was Justin Atwater-Taylor) were getting ready to tee off.  Pretty cool to see 2 World Champions playing your home course, but I was a little surprised they weren't down in Emporia playing practice rounds.

The basket on 15 was apparently hit by a large something. The basket is a little bent up but will catch a disc. I will move it away from the mud pit tomorrow.
I moved a few baskets that were sitting in mud or water yesterday. 18's tee pad is broken in a number of spots too  >:(

Is 15's basket going to be replaced?
