No no, Mike, you were supposed to say "Ace Beer is when someone hits an ace, and everyone else especially Nova must bring beer the following week"

Some guy was wearing last years disc golf day shirt 2 rows behind home plate last night. I also ran into Murph!!

That was West Plaza Tomato Company's very own Peter Engelman. Repping KC Disc Golf throughout the entire universe.

I think that's the right approach to take, just ignore the discussions you don't like.  Everyone's complaining about pointless posts, but "Been seeing alot of Rebel Flags" has over 1000 views since July 11th!  The previous black hole discussion about Matchboxx 64 also had a huge number of views.  It's clear there are quite a few forum users interested in reading the banter on those topics or contributing to the discussion.

This is a spot on conclusion. Folks are eating it up, and traffic has never been better.

I rarely go to for information. I always default to the forum. I like the speed of the forum. Again, I don't know why a Parks and Rec representative would base their opinion of our club on the freaking FORUM posts.. If you want to show a casual golfer/outsider/potential sponsor send them to ... That's a much more elegant solution. You wouldn't send your boss to your Facebook page would you? No, you would send them to your linked in profile...

People have been banned before. see Caleb Coffman. But behavior has to be threatening. this board has been WAY worse. This is childs play compared to things I've seen in the past. It's cyclic. This phase will too pass. I've seen this forum dead and desolate for weeks at a time. I, for one, welcome the banter - I agree, I would like to see it more productive. However I would rather have the higher volume of posts.

I believe that the forum should be open to everyone. There are a lot of non-members who enjoy learning from the information posted on the forum. Taking this away will mean there will be less information for those people. Doing this might seem standoffish to non-members as well.

I think the agreed intent is to just let members have posting abilities. Any non-members basically see the forum in a read-only type view. We can all agree that making ALL the data on here private would be counter productive to our purpose as a club.

There are a few limitations. If we continue to use Simple Machines Forum, there isn't a good way to tie in the forum user database to our club members database. That would mean someone, or some team, would have to manually update permissions for a forum username in order to provide them access to the members section.

We would then need to decide how restricted the forums would become. Will non-members be able to view only? will they be able to private message? Would certain parts of the forum be open to all? --- e.g. lost and found, tournaments?

The few issues I see are the non-members who are genuinely looking to post questions/feedback will not be able to do so in important forums such as Tournaments, Lost and Found, Beginners, etc.

There's a reason why this idea has been kicked around for a while now; it's difficult, and IMO, a lot of legwork on the tech side.

just some thoughts~
