Post by: sirbronco on March 29, 2011, 01:05:02 PM
Hey All -

This coming Monday, April 4, Swope League will be getting under way for the season.  Tee off will be at 5:30, and we will be playing the short tee pads (just to get us started).  Please be registered by 5:15.  If you can't make it in time, but want to play, give me a call at 816-665-1906.

This will be my first time running league, so suggestions and constructive criticism will be gladly taken.

Van

Swope League 04/04/11

It was a lovely evening, with the temps in the mid 40's and 15-20 mph winds.  Arturo V. started the round with a 7 after missing the Mando on Hole #1, but came back to win the round.  There was a 3-way tie for 2nd, and the 3 decided to have a play off for the cash.  Steve H. immediately won the playoff by parking #1 with an easy drop in birdie.  With 8 players getting in, the Ace Fund increaes to $314.

Open:
          Arturo V.       53 - $19.00
          Steve H.       55 - $11.00
          Chris T.         55
          Bret L.          55
          Jay C.           63
          Leo D.           DNF

Intermediate:
          Bill S.            64 - $6.00 KC Kash
          Van S.          73 - $2.00 KC Kash

Next League at 5:30 on 04/11/11

Swope League 04/11/11

Last night was a nice night for some disc golf.  The temps were in the mid 60's. with some wind, which died down by the end of the round.  For the second week in a row, Arturo V. won the night.  Apparently he had a near ace on #7, hitting the top of the basket and bouncing out.  The shot of the night: Lee K. shanked his drive on #3, which skipped off the street near #4's tee, rolled into the driveway and eventually rolled back in bounds ending up 30 feet behind #3's basket.  We did a CTP for each card with Lee K. and Brian G. each winning a T-shift.  With 8 getting into the Ace Fund, it increases to $322.

Open 1:
     Arturo V.     46 - $16.00
     CD             51 - $3.00
     Caleb W.     51 - $3.00
     Lee K.        51 - $3.00
     Edwin H.     65

Open 2:
     Brian G.      54 - $9.00
     Bill S.         63
     Van S.        69

Next League will be at 6:00 on 04/18/11

Beginning this Monday, with the sunset at 7:58, we will be teeing off at 6:00 for the rest of the summer.

So far, only 8 players have shown up each week...I really hope to increase that this week.

I am planning to do a CTP before the round, so be signed up by 5:45.

The ace fund is sitting at $322, and the course is set fairly short, so come on out and see if you can hit an ace.

See ya Monday,

Van

Swope League 4/18/11

What a beautiful night for some disc golf.  With the wind coming of out the NE around 15 mph, there was some good golf.  We had our largest turn out yet, with 10 showing up.  Some new faces that have not yet played Swope this year.  Now, if we can just get everyone out at the same time...we could have a good turn out.  Ted K. won a T-shirt with his CTP ace from #9's tee pad to # 2's short pin.  Shot of the night:  Arturo V. hitting an ace on #13 from the short pad to win $166.00.  So with Arturo winning the ace fund, it drops back down to $166.00 to start next week.  Again, we will be teeing off at 6pm.

Open:
     Arturo V.     46 - $15.00
     Caleb W.     53 - $5.00
     Drew N.      55
     Edwin H.     57

Masters:
     Bill N.         53 - $4.50
     Billy N.       53 - $4.50
     Ted K.       57

Advanced:
     Adam C.     57 - $7.00 KC Kash
     Bill S.         61 - $4.00 KC Kash
     Van S.       64

Looking at the Hour-by-Hour forcast, we are supposed to have thundershowers by 6:00pm tonight.  However, I am a very optimistic person and think this rain could hold off.  So, as of right now (2:00pm), Swope League is still on for tonight.  I will keep an eye on the weather, and hopefully we can still have league tonight.  I will let you know.

The forcast is still calling for thunderstorms by 6pm, but I will be out by 5:15 to take registrations.  Tee off at 6 for those who want to come.  Lets make this the biggest Swope League yet despite the rain chances.

Swope League 4/25/11

I was right, the rain did hold off until after we finished our rounds, though there was a bit of sprinkling with about 4 holes left. So, though it was dark and humid out, we stayed dry.

We had 8 out for league.  There was no wind, and so overall scores were low.  Several people had near aces, hitting the chains and spitting through...I heard of at least 4 and witnessed 1.  The story of the night was Miles M. hitting two separate turkeys (3 birdies in a row) on the back nine.  With 8 getting into the Ace Fund, it goes up to $174.  The CTP T-shift also went to Miles M.

Open 2:
     Miles M.      48 - $12.00
     Jay C.        49 - $8.00
     Bret L.        52 - $4.00
     Rod B.        54
     Ben C.        55
     BJ F.          55

I will be vacationing during the week of May 23 and will need someone to cover running league for me that night.  I know it is about a month away, but I thought I would get this set up now while I am still thinking about it.

Anyone willing to help?

Swope League 5/2/11

What a beautiful night for some discin'.  We had 10 out, which ties our 2011 record so far :o .  I know we can do better than that folks.  It was a close race in Open 1, with only 3 shots separating the field of 3 contenders.  Thanks to Arturo for bringing out the Ace Beer (and Mt. Dew for me) from 2 weeks ago, which was enjoyed by all.  With 10 getting into the Ace Pot, the fund goes up to $184.   Shane W. took the CTP prize, a 2009 Worlds Hat.  Before the round, Lee moved #10 to the middle position since Corporate Challenge was done.

Open 1 -
     Arturo V.     49 - $15
     CD S.          51
     Lee K.         51

Open 2 -
      Brian G.      53 - $9
      Jason L.      57
      David Z.      57

Am -
      Bill S.          57 - $9 KC Kash
      Nate F.       59 - $6 KC Kash
      Ian N.         61
      Shane W.    69

Next league will be Monday, May 9th at 6pm.

Hole 12 was moved to the right and hole 13 was moved back in the woods.

Gonna move something else tonight.

Gonna start working towards the wide open placements which are mostly long. Holes that are not used in the wide open will be left short. So don't freak out  ;D.

Swope League 5/16/2011

We had 16 out for what was probably the nicest night we have had yet this year.  There was a bit of a wind coming out of the north, but it really did not affect anyone's game.  Scores were hot tonight, with Arturo V. and Joe H. splitting the pot both being 10 under.  With all 16 getting into the Ace Fund, it has now been driven up to $219

Open 1:
     Arturo V.     44 - $20.50
     Joe H.         44 - $20.50
     CD S.          48 - $10.00
     Lee K.         49 - $2.00
     Bobby V.      49 - $2.00
     Jake B.        52
     Edwin H.      53
     Otto S.        55
     Brian P.        55
     Jason L.       55
     Adam C.       56

Masters:
     Ted K.         52 - $9.00
     Jack L.        57
     Kelly W.       58

Ams:
     Bill S.          58 - $7.00 KC Kash
     Van S.        62 - $1.00 KC Kash

Next week, I will be out of town, so Lee K. has agreed to run league for me.

Set up for final round at swope is pretty much decided on. Gonna have a new placement on seven that will be loved and hated.

To give it a little test run we are gonna play it next week at swope league.

It will be a temp placement for now to see if it is feasible.

Seven is the one hole on course with only one placement. The new placement will be in between the 2 mounds and will have an island ob surrounding it. Ideally like 13 at wyco in tourneys.

Come on out and check it out next week, should be fun.

Might need some flags, where the heck do i get those?

Swope League May 23

After a huge (by swope standards) turnout last week, we dropped back down to the usual smaller group last night. Nice night for the 10 who showed up as i subbed for van. Started a little late since i was running late, and of course was thouroughly unprepared. No scorecards, no change, i tapped out everybodies change and had to get 4 dollars in quarters from aurturo to even out the payout. I'll never take a 20 to a league again i swear. Then i was just itching to do an island hole so i ran and did that while timko moved a few holes. Made hole 7 an island with a temp basket in the middle of the 2 humps. Island may have been a little large but i liked it. Drew hated it, but i wasn't about to argue with some guy walking around with a big ole sledge hammer.

After weeks of complaining to van about 5-somes i decided the best move would be sending out 2 fivesomes.  ;D Played all long tees and obs were in effect, but we were still done by 8:30.

Arturo put the royal smack down on the open card. Whoever totalled the scores gave arturo a 45 when he shot a 43. Could have been a 41 if we weren't heckiling him the last 2 holes. Nobody really double checked the cards since it was obvious he was really good, and the rest of us... not so much.

On the Pro2 card the shot of the night was bj font draining a circle 3 from the drop zone for hole 7. That stroke saved him from being beat by a girl, his girl no less. But a tie is like kissing your sister, and then it's your girlfriend, and thats just a little too wierd for these parts bj, quit that shiat.

Shot of the night by anyone not named arturo was captian of the back of the box chris timko on our last hole 18. He stepped up and crushed his drive on a straight bead and absolutely destroyed the short tee sign(figuratively of course). And in a totally classless fashion refused to buy beer saying beer league rules don't count, crazy talk i say.

Finally the scores.
Pro2
Nicody Tucker - 56   $6
Jason Lyon - 56       $6
Bill Shinoski - 63
Bj Font - 68
Fawn -68 (Lone lady wasn't signed up for league just along to whip bj's ass)

Pro
Arturo V - 43    $16
Jake B - 52       $9
Jack L - 55
Lee K - 55
Chris T - 59

Hoping to keep up the gold course settings and ob for the swope league the monday after the wide open. I'm sure a lot of people will be burnt out, but i would like to see what i can do on it. Might have to start a little early or just keep small groups, because it is gonna be huge.

And no i don't think i should just play pro in the wide open.

just keep 3-somes in non-pro1 groups, and 4-somes for those, and you should still be done in 2:30

Swope League 5/30/2011

Man, oh man, what a windy night.  Winds were out of the south about 25 mph.  Due to the wind, we played all short Tee Pads,I saw some interesting drives coming off of #3, with some very overstable discs turning over and landing in the road near #4's Tee.  Surprisingly through, scores stayed pretty low.  I know for myself, I tied my personal best at Swope.  With 9 last week and 10 this week getting into the Ace Fund, it goes up to $238.

Open 1:
     Chris T.     47 - $16.00
     Arturo V.   48 - $9.00
     Slim B.      50
     Lee K.       54
     Jose O.     54

Open 2:
     David Z.    52 - $11.00
     BJ F.         57 - $7.00
     Jason L.     58
     Jitt B.        60
     Van S.       60

Swope League 06/06/2011

Last night was a great night for some Swope Gold disc golf.  It was about 92 degrees, but the humidity was low and there was a slight breeze coming out of the South, helping to cool things off as we played.  We had 17 out to play the Gold configuration, making for about a 2 1/2 hour round.  I kept the cards as small as possible, so it did not take very long to play.  With 16 getting into the Ace Fund, it is now up to $254.

I really appreciate Chris T. for taking the time to explain the setup to the group, as well as working to make the course ready for this weekend.  It is really looking nice; thanks to all those who continue to work hard on the prep.

Open 1:
     Arturo V. - 53 - $19.00
     CD S. - 57 - $11.00
     Jake B. - 59
     Lee K. - 60
     Jack L. - 65
     Dick P. - DNF
Open 2:
     Ryan K. - 61 - $14.00
     Jeff C. - 63 - $9.00
     Bret L. - 65 - $5.00
     Ted K. - 65 - $5.00
     Tony D. - 69
     Rodney B. - 70
     Amanda J. - 72
     Bill S. - 73
     Caleb W. - 77
     Van S. - 84
     Scott T. - 85

Love #16 in this set up.  It was a fun hole.

We will need to have as many people as possible at Swope on Sdunay to protect the picnic area from being used.  I am sure that we will be in full force out there, but those of you that get there early enough to watch the first few groups, it is gonna be a great event out here on sunday.

Jack, can we get that street blocked off?  Otherwise, we'll have people parking on the road, interfering with the shot for #15 to the peninsula.

It's cool.  CD and Arturo were trying to be nice.  I actually got a 13 on 18 and they would only give me a 9.  So my score also would have needed a 2 stoke penalty.

So all the OB is reasonable?  A 13 had me thinking they may have laid it out too tight.  I was considering checking it all out anyway.  Maybe after my round at BV on Saturday.  No AM pools are playing Swope, right?

That is correct.

Side note....not able to get out there today, as Interviews are in the works for me today.  And that's not a bad thing at all!!!  ;D

The OB wasn't in play on #18 last night.  And the OB is of similar shape as last year's #18, which is plenty generous.  Jack moved a couple flags last night to make some bigger greens, but for the most part, it played well.

I'd talk with Dan to see if we can get smoething from the P&R on that one, need barriers there and then need someone to man the area, as some people to park will be allowed with passes in the lot by #16 for VIP/Staff, and late teeing pro's.  Why we need to have a parking attendant down there for the day.

just shot a 54 on gold. the park was full of workers & looked amazing! loved the new pins. only thing I woulda changed is #5's tee. move it 10 ft closer to the shade, its 500 ft so 10 ft wouldn't kill it. also found #16 to be confusing. can't emphasize on how well the park & course looked, great job guys!

#16, OB on the right all the way to the Temp Flags for alternate pad #17 Leo.  Just walk forward from the long #15 pin to the corner.  Was it the tee, the throwing, from, etc that had you confused?

Leo, did you play the standard tee, or the tee directly to the north of #15's pin?

Post by: Leo D. on June 07, 2011, 10:10:51 PM
I played the original tee, thats probally why the ob didn't make sense to me, it looked like a runway for and aircraft carrier, flags everywhere  :D

I also played the rock pond on #4 & all rocks ob, was that correct? And mandos on 1 & 10? How about 14?

i believe they are using the short pad on 14 so the mando shouldn't be necessary
Title: Re: Swope League 2011

Double mando on 1 (will be marked), double mando on original hole #7 (will be marked), double mando on original hole #10.  No mando on #14 because we're playing the short tee (the long tee is in the throwing lane for #11 long).  On Gold hole #1, the rock pond is ob, as well as that little street that divides the fairway.  All of the standard waste area rocks are also OB.

Also, on all the natural tees, we'll have flypad or natural options.  Lee will be setting those up later today.  Hopefully I'll have some tee signs for the temp holes and can get those out Thursday or Friday.

Swope League 06/13/2011

Swope Gold...the Revenge...

After an exciting weekend of golf at the Kansas City Wide Open, we have a bigger than normal group of guys come out to take their revenge on Swope Gold.  It was a warm, but low humidity night with some slight winds out of the east.  A couple of Open players from the KCWO stuck around to attempt to get a better score on Swope than they did in the tourney, and they did so.  With all 19 getting into the Ace Fund, it now jumps up to $273.

Open 1:
     Greg B.         50 - $30.00
     Matt O.        56 - $19.00
     Shanan C.     58 - $13.00
     Jordan H.      61 - $8.00
     Chris T.        62 - $5.00
     Jay C.          65
     Jack L.         65

     Slim B.         66
     Anthony P.   67
     Lee K.          68

The 3 gold holes have been retrieved and put back on #3, #4, and #14.  I don't think any of the other pins have been shortened though.

Ryan Keck hit an Ace tonight during league. Hole 18 from the short tee, nice smooth hyzer right in the center.

Nice Ace Ryan, now go buy some diapers.

Swope League  June 20

Story of the night was Ryan's Ace on hole 18. Good wind for the hole that night, slight tail wind that let his hyzer coast smoothly in the heart of the basket. Looked a lot like my shot right before his that was just a little low and hit the basket :(. The two casuals on 15 that were watching us tee off totally skeeted all over the place. Ryan and i were the first ones to show up that night and didn't know if we were even going to have enough for league. Everyone else showed up in like the last 15 minutes. We played all short pads, no mandos, but ob was in play. Doesn't sound very logical now especially being the longest day of the year, but it worked out for ryan pretty well. Side note on ryans round, he followed up his ace with 12 straight pars and finished his round with more aces than birdies. I hit basket and it still cost me $4, so i felt no shame in taking his 12 tag from him ;D. After a slow start ryans ace inspired me to 7 birdies on the evening, tops for the night with tank. Shannon had a nice six birdies as well. The big guns don't make the mistakes that jack offs like me so i'll just keep on baggin.

Scores

Pro1

Tank    48           $23
Shannon C  49     $15
Lee        51          $8
Billy N    53
Mr. President   55
Ryan K      55     $144ish
Jack L       58
Jason L     59
Edwin       60

The duece
Seth W      53      $11
Ben  C       54      $7
Paul B        56
Ed H          60
Rodney B   62
Brian, quit calling me a bagger because i finish last in pro2, Palmer     62

The Van show returns next week at its regularly scheduled time. Pins will be moved shorter, maybe.

Ace fund down to 144, i think.

Speaking of belly aching, did anyone pick up my orange Star BOSS after the round.  I think it was the same disc I threw when I did a belly flop with a full twist onto the rocks at the end of Pad #1.  Would appreciate a call if anyone gots it.  ;D

We had great weather last night for a round of Disc Golf.  Some new faces (to me) came out to play, and even had a couple guys that this was thier first league round.  It is great to see these new faces.  We played all long T's, with no O.B.  Lee moved some pins, so the course is playing a little shorter.  No aces hit last night, so with 15 of 16 players getting into the Ace Fund, it is now up to 159.

Pros:
     Kevin C.    45
     Shanan C. 46
     Loomis      49
     Ryan K.     51
     Jack L.      51
     Caleb W.   51
     Lee K.       52
     Jordan H.   53
     Miles M.     58

Ams:
     Paul B.      49
     Vince P.    56
     Bill S.        56
     Frank W.   56

     Jordan H. - 45

Swope League 07/18/2011

Other than being hotter than he**, tonight's weather was great.  At 5:40, I was not sure we were even going to have league...not one person was even on the course.  However, at 5:45, we had 8 signed up.  Since there were so few, we decided to play doubles, which made for some low scores, with only one Bogey hit all night.  No one hit an ace, so the fund goes up to $181.

Mike M/Scott H - 44 - $30.00
Lee K/Paul B - 45 - $10.00
Bobby D/Van S - 51
Ed H/Travis L -52

Ok, after taking a poll the last couple of leagues, I have decided to play Random Draw Doubles the first Monday of each month for the rest of the season (August 1, September 5, and October 3).  See ya out there!

Okay, I know the weather is hot, steamy, and just plain miserable, but where was everyone tonight?  It was really a nice night to play, and was not that bad.  Only 4 out tonight, which made for a good social round for all of us.  All 4 got into the Ace Fund, therefor the Ace Fund goes up to $185.

Eric K.     50 - $8.00
Bill S.      55 - $4.00
Frank W.  56
Van S.     61

Dont forget that next week we are going to play random draw doubles.

The expected high for tomorrow is 101 according to the Weather Channel.  Local station's reports keep the temp near 99.  Not much of a difference when it gets that hot.  I will still plan on having league tomorrow.

DONT forget that it will Random Draw Doubles.

Slim and Erik K beat palmer and I in a playoff after we waited for about 40 minutes for them to finish :-\.

Title: Re: Swope League 2011
Post by: LKillian on August 10, 2011, 05:07:27 PM
A good side note on the evening. It was a fun night, some tough competition. Slim, shannon carson (who is making a case to be one of the top 3 players in the city), Jake B, Mike M, Jose are all super solid and quite a few others just a notch below. We thought it was gonna be all 4somes, so palmer, myself, and Ryan K, and his partner take off. Well we fly through the round to the tune of 24 birdies on the card, no bogeys, so we got done fast. Well then we find out there is a sixsome and they have like 6 holes to go. So, we shot good so i hung out and jacked around for ever, hoping our score would hold up. Well they finally finish and of course they tied us. Its getting kind of dark and don't really want to playoff, i get up at 430 so its already getting late for me. Slim really wants to even though we were playing off for $2 bucks a person. So i don't really want to, but finally i say what if we just play hole one and then split it after that if its still tied. I was hot when i was playing about 45 minutes ago, but not so much on that last drive. First i had to watch slim throw a ridiculous thumber over everything and land 5 feet behind the basket. So palmer and i both throw garbage drives and i'm sitting there annoyed at the situation. Maybe a little at having to playoff so long after we were done, maybe a little that it was so late, maybe a little that we played a great round and didn't win, maybe a little that the wife was calling wondering wtf is dinner.

There is a point i promise.

So I figured at least i'll be by my car, so we can just split up the money and i can go. Well they didn't bring the money, and i didn't even park in the freakin side lot. So we get to take the walk off shame back to the club house to split up the cash. Well that sure didn't cheer me up right there. Now i'm just ready to get the hell out. I didn't want to talk to anyone and didn't really, just got the payout and bailed. Walking off with Ryan Keck i'm bummed and he's bummed too because someone decided that his pack of cigarettes looked an awful lot like theirs and dissappeared. So it brings to mind all the shady things that have happened over the years at various disc events and i'm thinking way too much as i leave swope and drive across raytown to pick up some badass catfish. I get my fish and my phone rings, bj font calling me i figure its to ask about the round. He's like, dude do you have your dog. Side note, i'm am excessively attached to my dog. I got him 10 years ago in college when i started playing disc golf. He grew up on disc golf courses, he has been on at least 80% of my rounds. He gets fired up the second i pick up my disc bag and has an enormous red rocket the whole way to the course. I'm talking bigger than my thumb. Anyway, i think my initial reaction was F*********************************************************K. He says its cool, we got him. So i fly back over to swope beating myself up about how i got so worked up over such a trivial series of events and totally flaked out. Jose Ossa (Flying J) newer guy to town i guess, just moved here the beginning of this year i think, solid golfer, good guy. Even cooler now in my book. So i guess cooter wandered up to him after most everyone was gone and he's like dude wtf is my my dad. So jose recognises him and got bj to call me and he hung out for like 20-30 minutes to wait for me to come back and get my tired old buddy. I would have realized he was out there when i got home, but it was dark and people drive like bats out of hell on the streets around swope. So for someone to wait after dark at SWOPE!!! is pretty cool. Especially someone i have just started to get to know. Changed my whole perspective on the night. There are a lot of good people in kansas city, and i think i have met quite a few of them. It is something that helps make the disc golf here great, and i enjoy that disc golf here a whole lot. Even when you play your best and is isn't quite good enough, it was still a good day to play, and we did shoot a pretty sweet 41. Thanks again to BJ and Jose, i reward good deeds. So i will see you guys soon.

The catfish got a little soggy in the box, but was still hot and tasty. Keep up the good work Lutfi's.

Swope League 08/08/2011

As Lee has already given a quick commentary on the night, I wont add too much.  We played the $5.00 doubles.  It was a great night weather-wise and it could not have been much better.  As there was only 19 players out, I ended up being the Cali, and shot one of my best rounds at Swope (of course, having a mulligan once per hole sure helped on several holes).  Eric and Slim easily won the playoff between them and Lee and Brian.

Eric K. / Slim B. - 41 - $26.00
Lee K. / Brian P. - 41 - $18.00
Frank W. / Ryan K. - 43 - $5.00
James M. / Mike M. - 43 - $5.00
Ash L. / Shanan C. - 44
Paul B. / BJ F. - 44
Jim S. / Andy L. - 45
Scott H. / Jitt B. - 48
Jose O. / Dan F. - 50
Van S. / Cali Van - 57

With all 19 getting into the Ace Fund, it jumps to $204.

See ya next week!

Lee-similar story. About a year ago I played a down under round with a large group and then got engaged in some enthralling conversation with two people the entire walk back to my car in the main lot. I got in and started to drive off.  I got to the Rosedale exit and was waiting to make the right turn onto mission when the alarm went off in my head.  Where the F*CK is Sophie?! As I frantically turned around Brian Palmer called my cell and was like "um dude, are you stlll here your dog is wandering around with a bunch of us up top on #7". Having walked up from down under I would have had no idea where to start looking for her had BP not called me, despite the fact I only abandoned her for about 10 minutes. I had no idea if she followed me partially to the car or not at all-she is usually at my heels or nearby. I felt awful. Needless to say everytime I leave the course now I look back in my backseat like three times to make sure she is there. I'm glad this story ended happily, and big props to Jose and BJ for lovin' that cooter! And a big thanks to BP for calling me that day-I'm sure I thanked you but I don't think I expressed how grateful I was/am!

It was not a problem waiting at Swope for you, Lee.  I had good company!  Cooter is one coool dog.  They boy was thirsty and got plenty of water.  And you should be proud of him, he's a smart one.  He recognized me from the many times I've pet him and came up to me in his time of need.  I had just said my goodbyes to BJ and Slim and was loading up my car.  As I turned to say something to BJ across the parking lot I noticed Cooter standing right behind me looking up at me.  First thing I did was look around for your truck and when I didn't see it I called over to BJ.  Before I could ask anything, Cooter had jumped into my car.  He knew where safety was.  Cooter is very likable and I believe any other golfer would have done the same.

P.S.  Instead of that beer, how about a 5-hour energy?  Berry flavored.   :)

Swope League 8-15

Open

1.  S. Carson       51  (Won 1st playoff hole)     $22
2.  M. Murphy      51
2.  J. Ossa           51  (Ctp for 2nd, not sure who won)
4.  R. Keck          54
5.  L. Killian         56
6.  E. Hart           61
7.  House            63
8.  B. Crosby       70

Story of the night was shannon's ace on hole 3 (his 3rd hole of the night). To prove it was no fluke he put a drive on the first hole of the playoff (on hole 3 of course) just short of the pin for a 5 footer to win the playoff over jose and mike. Both were probably dissappointed with their drives since they were both easily outside the circle.

Baskets have been set pretty short for a while, i have been trying to keep things in middle to short settings for a while and i get a lot of help moving baskets shorter anytime i need it. ;D

So I moved most of the baskets on the back nine that weren't already maxed out. I wanted a front back contrast of long and short. 10 stayed long, 11 moved long, but not over hill, 12 to the left corner, 13 stayed by the street, 14 long, 15 long across the street, 16 long left by gregory, 17 in 1 long, 18 middle. So i wanted to try a few different things on the back nine so i had us play from an alternate tee on 16 (the kcwide open tee) and moved hole 17 to hole 1 long position. Hole 16 from that teepad is a cool hole. Not a really difficult drive but you need to get it 350 so the next shot isn't too hard. The second shot plays up hill to that big ass tree, but its not an easy shot (just ask avery). The basket is a good 50 feet from that tree so if you hit it you've got a long putt. Wish that could be a permenant tee but there WOULD be a conflict over there at some point, swope has enough drama. Hole 17 was ok, not many cars in the lot so a skip off the lot was in play. Back nine played pretty tough, only one person shot even(mike) on the back. 11 players totaled 6 birdies on the back nine, 3 on hole 17, and 3 on hole 10 long which is pretty impressive. In comparison, the front nine had 23 birdies, which is deceiving since i refused to get a birdie all night.

Shannon won in a playoff, but the cards say he could have locked it up much earlier. He was 4 under after 4 holes with an ace and 2 birdies, but struggled on the back and when he took a bogey on hole 17 that let mike gain 2 shots and tie him with a birdie. Hole 18 on the long is like 460 and you need a little more of a tail wind than we had last night to get there, so they both finished with a 3 to tie. On the other card Jose over came his one bad shot on the night that led to a 5 on hole 15 to tie for the win. He could have had it though, he birdied 2 and 3 to tie then the whole card couldn't birdie hole 4 to finish so he had to settle for the tie.

Most importantly, cooter did make it on the departing trip from the golf course. Although he was probably dissappointed this week, he got no catfish. ;D

Sorry got so long winded that i forgot the pro2 scores.

Greg Utz           60     $9
Frank Weaver   65
Rhonda Crosby   73

Greg dominated the night jumping out to a nine stroke lead, but the thoughts of having to play open entered his head so he dropped 4 shots in the last 4 holes to keep it under double digits.

Swope League 08/22/2011

With the baskets set long (see Lee's previous post), scores were not altogether great, but we had a fun time.  The weather was great with a slight breeze coming out of the North West, which helped to keep things cool.  I had 8 out tonight, 3 of which were not club members, and for 1, this was his first round of Disc Golf.  With Shanan hitting an ace last week, the pot dropped down to $107 (I think), and 7 getting in tonight, it is now $114.

Shooting for Cash:
     Chris T - 55 - $10.00
     Frank W - 56 - $5.00
     Matty P - 60
     Greg U - 61
     Jack G - 70

Funny Money:
     Bill S - 56 - $7.00 KC Kash
     Caleb G - 58 - $4.00 KC Kash
     Van S - 65

Next week will be the last week that we meet at 6pm...Beginning 09/05/2011, I want to move the start time back to 5:30pm, so please plan accordingly.  Also, that same night, we will play Random Draw Dubs again, and I will keep the cards small so to get done quickly.

Only 6 more Swope League nights left...

The very new guy had played about 6 rounds of golf, but it was his first league round.  He had some pretty good drives for his first time, and with some work will be throwing big D in no time.

With the baskets set long (see Lee's previous post), scores were not altogether great, but we had a fun time.

If the course was set mostly long, I'd say the scores for beginners were quite good.

Personally, I prefer course setups where standard par (54) is a challenge and respectable score to shoot.

Anyway, thanks for keeping the beginners league going. New blood is never a bad thing.  :-)

Me too :).  Unfortunately, I had a lot of detractors in my 2 years of running league, so I'll let folks play the shorter courses.

Swope League 08/29/2011

Man, oh, man, tonight was a beautiful night.  The weather was in the mid 80's with a little wind coming out of the North.  Too bad only 2 people showed up to play league.  So, we did not play for cash, just a casual round.

Next week, I am planning on having a doubles round on Labor Day.  Plus, starting next week we are going to start at 5:30pm.  Only 5 more league nights left for this summer.

Swope League 09/05/2011

Tonight was the Frank and Tank show on the beginning of the month Random Draw Doubles.  They had a bogey free round, shooting 11 down.  Speaking of bogeys, there were only 3 of them all night, on 7 teams.  The weather was great, with a slight wind coming out of the north...though Swope being Swope, the wind seemingly changed directions 3 times from the time the disc left the tee pad, flew over the valley, and was gliding towards the baskets.  We played all long pads, mandos enforced, but no O.B. (good thing to for my partner and I on hole 10).  With 14 out and all getting into the Ace Fund, we have increased to $128.  Now, for the scores:

Tank / Frank -      43 - $22.00
CD / Van -            46 - $14.00
Caleb/Amanda -   47 - $6.00
Billy / Peter -        48
Jamie / Bob -        49
Lee / Erin -           49
Marshall / Mark -  50

Next week, we will be teeing off at 5:30 again.  I am going to post a survey on this forum with a couple of ideas I have been toying with to see if anyone is interested in them.  I will let you know the layout for next week's league by Friday of this week.

Van, I'm gonna bust a** to get there by 5:30. I really want to play this one disc format. I work at 435 and Metcalf and don't get off work till 5:00. Please have someone call me at 5:20 to find out where I'm at if I'm not there already. I'll try and sneak out a little early but can't make any promises. My number is 816-217-3301.

Thanks

Swope League 09/12/2011

We did not get the people out to match the response for the voting for which format to play tonight.  I believe of the 19 votes, 11 voted for the One Disc format.  We had 4 show up.  Thanks to those who did.  I had never played a one disc round, and it was really fun.  It really makes you have to think through your shots better, and allows you to get to know that particular disc better.  Overall, I think I am a better player for it.  I will tell you this, putting with a driver is much different than a normal putter.  We saw quite a few discs skip off the top of the basket and fall out.  With all 4 of us getting into the Ace Fund, it now increases to $132.

Caleb W. (Buzzz SS) - 47 - $8.00
Jordan H. (Roc) - 55 - $4.00
Bill S. (TeeBird) - 59
Van S. (Sidewinder) - 64

Well, next week, the plan is to go back to regular league format.  I know it is getting late in the season, but I would love to get a lot of people out and play.  There are only 3 more Swope league nights left for 2011.  We start at 5:00pm next week.  See ya then.

Here is the plan for the last 3 Swope league nights for 2011:

09/19 - Regular league format (Sunset 7:22pm)
09/26 - Regular league format (Sunset 7:11pm) - the idea for the Mando Mania is still a possibility here.
10/03 - Random Draw Dubs - (Sunset 7:00pm) - no more than 2 teams per card

Again, we are teeing off at 5pm each of the last 3 weeks.

I am sorry that I have not had a chance to get scores up from this past Monday's league...I have been sick and then yesterday, we had a break-in at my house, so it is has been a busy couple of days for me.  I will get scores posted soon, as I now have no internet access at home, and can only do it at work (and I dont have the league score sheet with me).

I can tell you there was a 2-way tie for 1st place between Ash L. and Frank W.
