The more tournaments here in KC the better.  Feel free to make fun of me, but will this be 2 rounds at Cliff? Or just one round?

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to it!

Yes.  2 rounds.  Both at Cliff Drive.  I believe we used 11 different placements second round last year.  Plan to do same thing this year.

I am hoping to have some of the "new holes" in by then so hopefully we will not use 17 & 18 during a round...or make it a 20 hole round....I want the new 1 & 2 in there if I can.....I can dream right?

Moved everything after #6, with the exception of #14, the tree next to the basket location there has fallen.  Yet again another tree dies to show it's support of the Tree Love needed at Cliff Drive.  I have left it in the short position for now, and await instructions on the placement.  I will work on getting out there this weekend to move the front few that need to be moved.

I'm in for the love of trees, but whether I actually play depends on work this weekend. If it's okay with the TD, I would like to add a 50/50 bounty prize of $100 for those who post a score of 48 or lower during either round. If multiple players achieve a 48 or lower during either round, those players will throw a CTP to determine the winner, and that person will receive $50 cash and a $50 donation to the tree fund will be made in their name. 8)

AS not the TD, I say it is perfectly fine to do this.  I have many a time put a bounty on a course.....That 48 may be easier to get in the 2nd round.....though I bet some think that they may have a shot at it both rounds.....Would they then have 2 chances at a CTP, if it were tied with another player?

Let's just keep it at one CTP per player, even if they shoot 48s in both rounds.

CTP, is this the case of a tie, or would it go to the lowest round shot?

THe wording of it is that anyone with a 48 or lower would get it, if there are multiple folks, then it goes a CTP.  So when I shot my 46, and you shoot your 47 we both get the shot at the $50.

The CTP (if necessary) will be for all those players who shot a 48 or lower during either round. So Tank, even if you rip off a blazin' hot 45, which I know you are capable of doing, you will still have to do a CTP against any other player or players who post a 48 or lower during either of their rounds, and the winner of the CTP gets the $50.

Also, if nobody posts a 48 or lower, the entire $100 will go into the tree fund, so it's still win-win for the trees no matter what happens. ;D

Welcome to Tree Love Classic Week.  Registration is up to 29 players and caps at 72 players.  Tomorrow is the cutoff to receive the disc portion of the players package.  I think most of the course is in tournament position.  You can get some practice by playing league there tonight or play the FTL round their on Friday morning.

It is shaping up to be the best TLC to date.

they climb up from the street north of 3's pin to just south of 12's pad, totally out of play for this tourney I think. it would be awesome it they cleaned up 3's green area though, so we could maybe get a long and higher placement.

Not sure if this will ever be feasible, but that'd be sweet, along with some stairs to walk down to the road from the green.

We have met with the two groups that are doing work in the park that day.  They have been advised of what is goin on, where to not park and the areas that will be in play.  They will be working by #3 pin so it is doubtful we will go any longer.

If you are not playing in the tournament come to the park and help out.

Any player participating in the Tree Love Classic with the overall lowest score has the ability to qualify for the 2013 United States Disc Golf Championship Performance Flight.  The USDGC is held at Rock Hill, South Carolina Oct 2-5th, 2013.  You have to establish your intent to qualify for the spot, prior to the first round of the TLC.  The winner of the USDGC spot would have to register very quick as the cutoff is quickly approaching.

Good times. Cliff Dr is one of our best courses. Nice job Drew, Jack, Hyzer, Ron, Scott and all who made it happen. Nice shooting Andy and sweet second round score(62) outta Mike Petrin.

Great weather and good times, although I was unable to overcome the disappointment I felt upon realizing that #13 would be in the long long long long long long long long long long long setting for both rounds... >:( :-[ :'( >:(

As much as I love this sport, I'd like it better if tournament play wasn't at such a slow and grueling pace. The first round started sometime after 9am, and I left after 4pm with half the second round still to play. Just seems like the sh1t wears on for far too long for only 36 holes of disc golf. I don't know how you all can stand it to be so slow! ;D

Anyway, enough whining and b%tching out of me for now. Sure seemed like this was the most successful TLC yet and it appears to only be getting better. Thanks to Drew for spearheading this and to DD for their flawless logistical execution, once again. And also thank God for the lovely weather and for the trees we still have left on the back 9. 8)

I agree on pace of play, but someone has to be eeyore according to aa milne, so go find a honey pot to stick your face in. for next year in lieu of blasting a car horn to start, some one should plant a tree while the field attempts a precision silent start

Tree Love Classic 2013 Recap:
Thank you to everyone who came out, hung out, played, visited, donated, traveled, wore green, and showed the trees some love.  It was awesome, my favorite Tree Love Classic yet.  Hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.  Final amount raised will be sorted out and announced Tuesday.
Congratulations to all of our winners, Joe Hesting, Heath Kinton, Gary “G$” Harvey, “Steeler” Doug Kroll, Greg Mattoon, Brenda Lowe, and Javen Bowie.  Nice shooting on a tough course everybody.
Special shout out to Scott Reek, who did WAY more work than he was supposed to, and won the Silent Auction with an $80 donation to the Cliff Drive Tree Fund.  Also, Ron Klein-Mo for his help, spotting, CTP donation, and judging.
Demian Vela won the Star Rancho Roc CTP.  G$ Won the Green CTP for a $15 Gift Certificate to Dynamic Discs – Kansas City.  I believe no-one was rejected by the light pole this year.
Mike Keizer’s 48 bounty was pretty safe with a couple of 52’s in the afternoon being closest.  The entire $100 donation was appreciated.  I was rooting for someone to claim half of it, but the wind and the trees were not.
Simultaneous sorry and congratulations to Suzie Zell for being the first person ever at the TLC to be stuck in a tree above two meters.  Actually she was above 10m, but who’s counting.
Thank you all again.  We’ll do it up even bigger and better next year.  See you all then.
Drew

Actually, I thought the pace of play was pretty good.  2hrs 50 mins for 1st card in 1st round.  2.5 hours 2nd round on two pretty tough set ups with wind and considerable cliffs and ob.  that's considerably better than any tournament i've played this year.  just part of pdga play.

sorry about 13 keizer.  its just the short pin, 90% of the field gets a three.  with the loss of trees there, its a waste of time to play that hole when you are trying to identify a Tree Love Champion!  and, if you gotta walk that way to the 14th tee, your bag might as well be 1 disc lighter.  8)

Mike K, they make Ritalin or Adderall  to help with staying focused.   That might be the key for all us that suffer from ADD and slow play.

If you are used to fast rounds of causal golf, tourney golf can really mess with you.   Some folks your thinking, "come on man, you know what shot you got there... just throw that easy approach ."  Do you really need all that time to think about it?

I thought pace of play was fine too.. Tourney golf is as much mental as it is Physical, If not more...

It's definitely a different style of Golf Keiser, and I sincerely believe there's a learning curve to Event golf. Tournaments are a process, That's my favorite thing about it, It's a process from start to finish...

I watch some people get stronger and some people get weaker during "Slower play". It's not always the funnest part of tourneys, but its the nature of the beast and time to  learn about yourself and your game...

I suggest, play an event with minimal commitments to follow...I bet you play better

Thanks Drew and Scott, those layouts where fun and challenging...

Plus after playing 2 tough rounds... i say that place has enough DAMN TREES!!!!!  ;D ;D

West Siiiide!!!

Joe, did you get the spot in USDGC performance flight?  If you can swing it, you should go, for sure.  I'd sponsor you if that'll help.

Tracy,
I appreciate the offer to help, but I got too many commitments coming up and not enough vacation days left to take off for that long, and my rating is too high now to do any damage on the Performance side anyway.

I will go to USDGC someday, when I EARN my spot to play on the OPEN(Money) side ;)

Thanks again to Drew and Scott for running a smooth tourney and helping to raise money for trees.  I had a great time golfing with everybody.  I thought the rounds went rather quick...but that may have been cause I wasn't hitting every tree out there, Keizer ;)  When I'm playing bad, I like to complain about the slow pace as well.

The only thing I would have changed would have been the 2 hour lunch break for me, but I guess people finished the first round a lot later than me.  I would prefer if every tourney did a half hour lunch break, (bring a sandwich), but that's just me.  I'm sure Jack enjoyed the extra party time over lunch :o

half hour for lunch sounds like the best way to save time especially when you play the same course.

Another idea, on same course tourneys.  Call up a couple food trucks to come out, half hour lunch, boom, back on the course.

Or have lunch built in to registration as is the case with one event happening this weekend.  ;D

Congrats to Joe and all who played.

Support local businesses....more time for lunch.  Especially one day events.  I enjoyed it.  I haven't gone back to Pittsburg because of the short lunch a couple years ago.  Too much stress on time.  You travel to a town, enjoy a little lunch, hopefully dinner as well.....but that is me.....

And Jason McEwen did hit the light pole on #12, thus the trees talked the metal into getting in the way.

i believe the pdga minimum is 1 hr after the last card came in so joe, u were looking at 1.5 hrs minimum.

while i can appreciate the stance jack is taking as far as supporting local businesses (i'm sure he has an estimate as to how much ntdf money he has had granted thru the years), i dont necessarily agree in this instance. more prevalent in 2 day tourneys.  it seemed as i was looking around at lunch, most of the people who traveled had brought their lunch.  i remember when i first started playing tourneys, 1 day pdga's were rare.  i've given 1.5 hrs after last card all 3 yrs mainly because there's not alot of choices close to CD and not alot of locals even that familiar with the area.  i would be more than willing to start 2nd round 30 mins earlier next year.  i was ready to tee at 2.  thanks for the feedback joe.  anyone else have opinions?

i love the food truck idea as someone who is pretty much stuck there thru lunch.  i thought keizer had a food truck lined up to come by last yr or the yr before, but i never saw one.  i dont know any personally but would need some kind of guarantee of arrival before advertising.  with disc golfers being notoriously bad at pre-registering, i dont see how i can give them a guaranteed head count to warrant their time.  prove me wrong next year and i'll pay for famous frank in 2015 myself.

jack, i was talking about the light pole on the ctp, not hole 12.  this is the first yr i believe no-one hit it.

Yep, tried to get La Carreta out there but they never showed. Honestly, it was a last minute thing and I'm not sure they took me seriously since I didn't have any literature or anything to give them.

There is actually no set standard established by the PDGA for the length of the break between rounds. I've seen tourneys that had thirty minute breaks with food made available as people turned their cards in and tourneys with two hour+ breaks because the last card took so long to come in. It's completely up to the TD. The PDGA does not mention it in the Competition Manual. The expectation by most is that there should be a minimum of one hour after the last card comes in but there is no rule. I've been b%tched out about this by people that got less than an hour at events I've TD'd and I got upset with a TD once myself when he allowed only thirty minutes after the last card and I later apologized upon discovering that there indeed is no set rule. He was under no obligation to give people more time, especially since the tourney had provided lunch that was available as the cards were turned in.

I think an hour should be Min/max from last card.. 60 mins from last card handed to the TD

yup, 60 minutes for slower players/eaters, and personally I would appreciate earlier tee times in the fall, and the national anthem just prior to the 2-minut warning, and professionally attired female cheerleaders on the 18th fairway. and maybe, just maybe a new tree planted at cliff drive.
