Title: Pads
Post by: The Nailer™ on May 11, 2013, 10:07:59 AM
Any word if the pads are in at this course or have recently been poured?

I don't think so yet.... I'll do a recon Sunday sometime and post. I do know some crushed rock has been placed on some of the tee areas.

Just did a drive by and didn't see any form work from the road. They have dumped and leveled out some crushed rock in preparation for the tees though, and with the drying conditions hopefully will commence soon.

League is at Prairie Center every Monday in May. Sign up by 5:45 for a 6:00 tee.

We will return to Birdland in June.

Drove by late this evening and didn't see any new pads or prep for pads.  I'm patiently waiting ::) and hoping they magically get put in before the end of July.  I have 8 buddies flying in from all over the country for 4 days of non-stop dg and I was hoping to put this course on the list but if there are no pads it will not make the cut.  I will be pretty bummed if we can't play Lakeside!!

In an email conversation with the parks assistant director Monday morning, he said they hope to start constructing boxes by July 1. He also said he has some other enhancements in the works for the course.   8)

He didn't elaborate, but I'm hoping they do a little better mowing, perhaps some more trash cans, and some noxious weed control.

Tech people please help with photo link....not sure what's up.

From my best guess they are 4' x 10'...didn't have a tape measure with me.

Holes 5 & 7 are poured...holes 1 & 10 are formed....didn't have time to make it around to all the locations.

Facebook links will not show on the forum. Just a link to it. You will have to upload it to a photo sharing site and then use the embed code.

My son and I went to the course yesterday to check out the new pads and throw a round and I just wanted to say how nice everything is looking out there! Those pads and the surrounding gravel looks fantastic and the course, at least the front nine, was is excellent shape! Wish we could have seen the back nine but I decided to end early due to the heat and my boy looking like a QT hotdog  :P It's amazing to think about how far this course has progressed in just a few short months and I can't wait for us to start showing it off as another one of KC's jewels. It definitely has the beauty and the bite to challenge the best  ;D

Looking great!

How is the grass/ticks/ivy situation out there? I'm wanting to get one more go round before I skedaddle and am hoping to see it in its element!

The grass looked to be freshly mowed (within the last week) and was looking closer to its golf course history on the fairways. This only poison ivy I noticed was on the path down to #4s fairway from the tee but it was well off the path. My son is pretty allergic to the stuff so I always have to have my out for it  :o The whole place was extremely well manicured.

As for the tick situation, I kept checking us for any every other hole or so and didn't find a single one on either of us. Thank goodness because it seems that every time I take the boy out he seems to always bring one home. I'm thinking because of the fresh mow and the work that has been recently done to clean up the course this would be prime time to get out there and avoid the little buggers.

Just to let you all know... Permethrin, the main chemical used to spray for tick's, in a gross estimate of about 150 acres (the land that is used for the Disc Golf Course), would cost about $2500 for just the chemical application. Not including the man hours / spray equipment. The best prevention of tick's is consistant mowing of less than 4", thus why most ball golf courses never need to spray for ticks, and why it is expensive to do so. This also only gives about a 90 day residual, because of the EPA's dislike of long residual chemicals. One good application of Dursban would keep the little buggers away for years... dang the EPA for keeping us cancer free.

I vote for this guy to be on the BOD.
