2009 LSDISCS MIGHTY SHUNGA OPEN SEPT 26-27 B-TIER TOPEKA KS
« on: September 11, 2009, 03:03:01 PM »

Just to add to what is already on the flyer, we will have a recreational division and a casual division which whill be the same price with the only difference being that the casual division won't have to pay the $10 pdga fee. PDGA members won't be allowed in this division. The casual division also won't be posted on the pdga results page after the tourney. Everything else, will be the same.

The Saturday night party should be a blast with a live jam band lined up, food and drinks! I am thinking the party is going to cost $5+- a head which will include a gold rimmed custom pint glass, dinner, drinks, and band... definately worth the money just with dinner and the band! You won't be dissapointed! The party will be within walking distance to the lake shawnee campgrounds which is a plus. We are looking to set up mini golf for the party as well with prizes being given to the top finishers. The sign-up, 1st/2nd round, and party will all be in one location at lake shawnee.

All ams will recieve a players pack that will include...

Tourney Stamped dry fit shirt
Tourney stamped disc
Tourney stamped mini
LSDiscs Koozie
Schwag donated by Visit Topeka
Custom Printed Players manual with maps of all 4 courses
and more!

Here is a link to the campgrounds website...

We are in the process of getting a hotel lined up, but being in late september... it should be perfect camping weather (fingers crossed!) We are also looking at getting some deas on lunches for both days and will post on that when we get the info. For more info...

Just got confirmation from our good friend Dick Parker, and he will be hosting the mini golf tournament at the players party saturday night at the party.  Not sure of the amount of holes, or the layout yet, but I am sure it won't dissapoint!  Remember you will recieve $5 off for pre-registering so be sure to let us know asap if you will be attending.  Hope to see everyone soon!

Just a quick note about the band that will be playing at our players party saturday night....

Josh Vowell & the Rumble
They have won quite a few blues competitions and most recently won a competition that is sending the to the national blues competition. Basically, we are lucky to have them play. They are booked for nearly two months out, nearly every night, so are in high demand. If you can't make it to the tournament, you are still more than welcome to come to the party, eat some food, drink some beer, play some mini golf, hang out with friends, and enjoy some AWESOME music! The party will start as soon as the second round is over, but the band won't start until 6p. They will play til 10 or 1030. Look forward to seeing everyone there!

Do a quick search on Josh Vowell and the Rumble and check them out!!

Nice...  I saw them at a blues and BBQ festival in Sedalia a few months ago. Good rocking blues band reminiscent of SRV. Wish I could be there, sounds like a great time.

We are in the process of finding a host hotel, though there really isn't any close to lake shawnee so not sure what/where it will be just yet.  I would recomend that people stay at the lake shawnee campground as it is walking distance from the course (the alternate goes right by the campgrounds).  With the weather the way it has been, we are optimistic that it should be perfect campground weather (fingers crosses).  I will post when a host hotel is found, but as mentioned it likely won't be too close.  I don't think the lake has anything big going on that weekend, but it might be a good idea to reserve a camp spot by calling ahead.  The campgrounds are very nice with shower facilities, snack shop, beach, electric sites, very well groomed, etc...

We have a hotel at Days Inn @1510 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka - (785) 272-8538.  Ask for Kay or Susie and say you are with the disc golf tournament and you should get a rate for right at $50 a night is what I was told.

We layed out the lake alternate course Saturday and there are a couple additions that were made as follows....

Hole 4- We marked ob on both side of this hole making a fairway that gets smaller and smaller as you get closer to the hole.

Hole 6- Was made a little longer pushing it close to the bottom of the valley in a little cubby by the forest.

Hole 7- Used to be a birdie or die hole. Got lengthened to 400' and added an anny fairway. The basket got put on a mound to create a slippery putting surface.

Hole 9- First one after the tunnel shot hole... goes down the hill along the houses.... we added a mando left of the big tree to prevent people from throwing over the next holes fairway and forcing either an s shot, or super straight shot. OB remains along the property lines of the homes.

Hole 12- The short hole that shoots down to the water just over the trail. The water line was marked ob to prevent confusion as their are a lot of water weeds that would make the ob line confusing.

Hole 17- Was lengthened to 275' from 200'. Still a birdie, just not a gimmie.

Hole 18- We added ob flags for the entire hole. The flags start off making a dog leg right which people could either cut the corner with a risky longer drive, or lay up about 325 to get around the corner (their is a large tree on the inside of the dog leg that would need to be avoided). The fairway then goes straight to the hole, getting smaller as you reach the basket.

Lake shawnee regular will play almost identical to the lsdiscs open layout except for the hole on 16 will shoot the new placement in to the gap in the trees. Crestview gold will be played, and big shunga will remain the same as in the past.

I just ordered the beer for the players... Blue Moon Blegian Wheat, and Amber Bock. Food will be burgers and brats.
The players party will cost an additional $7 and will include food, drinks, live band, and a custom pint glass. We will also have a mini golf course set up for peoples further entertainment. There will be a small cost to play (couple bucks) and prizes will be awarded to the winners... probably have some ctps in there somewhere.

We have lunch specials for saturday worked out with Applewood BBQ for $5 for a bbq special, and Glory Days for $10 large one topping pizza.  I think they both will be donating some gift certificates as well that we will give away for prizes so hopefully people will get some free lunch!
