AS of today, I do not have any information on what is being offered in this years Ace Race, but I wanted to start this thread so everyone knows it is happening.
August 11th, 2013 at Swope Park.
Flex start 9-4 (second round must be started by 4)
This year will be even more fun with the same flexible start and shorter holes to allow more players the opportunity to get some chains. You can pre-register for $25 at Dynamic Discs Kansas City. Pre-Reg is recommended as it helps us determine how many players packages to order.
I'll post more as soon as I get it.
Thanks
-
Scott
will you need extra baskets against. this year if so I can bring 2 or maybe 3
-
Always ready for the Ace Race!!

I will most definitely need additional baskets this year. I'll be in touch Mike.

Discraft is now saying the information about this years Ace Race should be on July 22nd. I will let you know as soon as I know.

I think attending my first Ace Race ever is in order!!

Every player receives a sweet player pack!
The 2013 Ace Race player pack includes:
Two copies of the 2013 Ace Race prototype disc: It's a beginner-friendly distance driver... and it's in premium Titanium plastic!
One Titanium mini Magnet: you've never seen one before, since they've never been made before!
Two reusable scorecards/bag tags: something else you've never seen before! We commissioned these reusable scorecards just for 2013 Ace Racers. With a pencil and a clean eraser, you can use your new scorecards for round after round. The first one is credit card sized... keep it in your wallet and you'll always have a scorecard ready to go. It also makes a cool bag tag!
The 2nd reusable scorecard is larger for easier use and up to six rounds of 18 before it needs erasing. The flipside has the complete 2013 Discraft flight chart for easy reference anytime. Stash it in your back pocket, in your bag, or use the punch hole to hang it wherever you like.
We're also including a pencil with eraser with your Ace Race player package, so you can start using these cards right away.
Two high impact plastic pint glasses: very cool!
One beverage koozie: silver on black, jack.
One tri-panel Discraft sticker: three stickers in one.
-
OK, that actually interests me.
-
2 glasses, one koozi.....man something has to give on this..... ;D
Can these glasses be used the following weekend at the Non-tournament disc golf event at another park in the same city?

My favorite package items so far besides the discs was the key chain and the full color mini.
This package is pretty neat.
-
You can register at Dynamic Discs Kansas City. Disc Golf World and I'm working on getting it online. You can register on site but per reg is the only way to secure your package. Last year we were the 2nd largest with 200 players, lets beat that this year!!!
-
I also created a FC Event page for the Ace Race, please share and help spread the word

If I have a buddy who wants to show up that day and play, how will the players pack work for him?
-
do we have to use their crap to participate???
Sorry, I mean disc to participate?
Basically my question is: do I have to give Discraft 25$ to participate in this event?
-
in other words is the course open to casual players?
-

who just "casually" stroll in with a ROC?

Basically my question is: do I have to give Discraft 25$ to participate in this event?
if you had a sponsor would you come out, demonstrate a few of your infinite disc skills and pass along the crap you don't want to some new player?
-
Ace Race Discs must be used for the event to be considered part of the event.....I like what ^^^^^ said, I gave away most of mine over the years as well....
-
This is at min the 3rd year in a row that Tank has asked this question...somebody get that bird a sign!
Or at least a clue!!! ;D :)

Sorry, I loathe the idea of giving D-Craft a penny of my scratch...
I would like to play in it, use my own disc, even if I know I can't win/cash/place...
Maybe donate a cool disc of 2 as some kinda prize for being able to participate?
-
If I have a buddy who wants to show up that day and play, how will the players pack work for him?
Anyone have an answer for my legit question?
-
He would receive the standard players pack that everyone gets. He would have to use the disc provided. Everyone plays with the same discs in the same format.
-
Gracias Scott. I hope to have a buddy who has thrown a few rounds join in on the fun.
-
I am still looking for baskets if anyone has any i can borrow on the Ace Race. I have a few already and I know a few are bring them on Sunday. Please let me know if you have a basket I can borrow.
If you have already told me have one but I have not responded to you, i apologize but can you re-let me know so i can account for it.
We are getting registration daily and well over 100 players registered. Pre-Registration will secure your package but also secure you get a decent package. I will pre-package the players package upon arrival. I will package the weights that I get based on what I can about you and if you want to exchange you can do so on the day of the event. Those who do not pre-register, will more than likely still be able to play but will get their picks from what is remaining.
I have no idea what weights and colors I will receive until Saturday, but if you want to request something specific for your pre registered package, please send me a PM, email or text and I will do my best (no guarantees)
Thanks again
-
There are currently 145 players pre registered for this years Discraft Ace Race.
Fun Fact .. last year we had 65 pre registered prior to the event and finished with nearly 200 players. With 145 already pre registered, i am anxious to see how many players we finish with this year.
Still another full day to get signed up. If you are already signed up, please spread the word. Share this post and lets get to that number 1 spot.
-
I challenge everyone to wear their oldest disc golf shirt they own with a date on it. Such as a Worlds Biggest as example.
-
We'll first let me start by thanking ALL 273 players who showed up for todays Discraft Kansas City Ace Race. That's right. i said 273!!!
I just made it home and will have the winner and Side Ace amounts posted tomorrow and they can be picked up from DDKC on Tuesday or whenever is good for you. First, I need to sleep :)
Today would not have been possible if it had not been for the help of so many people

Thanks again for all of the support I receive from the Kansas City Disc Golf Community and I am already taking notes and looking forward to hosting it again in 2014!!
-
Thanks Scott and to all the people who helped with this event. This was my first ace race and I had a blast. Only had one ace, no biggie, always next year.
-
One of the most enjoyable groups I played with in quite a long time. Thanks for making this fun "tournament" more fun.

Don't get me started on our group. Everything from a stalker to a midget. Oh the good times.

Say no more!!

Before I forget. Thank you to whoever found my camera after it fell out of the case between regular tees 2 and 4. If you looked at any pics and repeat what you saw, I'm in trouble. LMAO!

Much to my chagrin because it put "who are you KIDding Mills" ahead of me, I'll testify that he did get an ace during the second round.

Jason Godfrey SR got a 3 and Jason Godfrey Jr got a 1

I think that at Check it was stated that you have to turn in the card with accurate information so that they knew that you:
A. Paid to be in the side pot
B. Could confirm that you got the ace
I am uncertain that I would be accepting information from the internet be it valid sources or not. If you didn't turn in an accurate card or ensure that your card was accurate when it was turned in....well that is YOUR fault, not the fault of the TD. Now in the case of missing scorecards, or having them lost, I can see that information being corrected, but everyone posting in here, I know that xyz got an ace shouldn't constitute having accurate information.
I don't know, to me though having to play around the 20 some really deterred me from the event, and I doubt that I go back out at it again. I have fun with it, and enjoy almost everything about it, but this should be about a couple of hours, and anything in my mind over 8-10 people is really too much. Scores take too long, everything takes longer....
That is why I talked my little group into skipping around the big group.
Don't get me wrong though I think that the large group dynamics did make for some exciting listening, I just didn't want to take 4 hours to throw 40 times yesterday as I did....I thought that I would get in and out in about an hour each round....
I know it is just me, but this is probably why I won't go back next year, just too much gang golf for my own liking....again I think that 8-10 is ok, but that is pushing it, however you can get through the course pretty quickly still, once you get over that, it takes way too much time. By the time we passed the "gang" we had finished 3 holes before they got completed to the next hole, and that was following another group as well in front of us....
I appreciate all the work that goes into it, and I think that Scott did a GREAT job, as well as Josh and all the work but for me, just a little too much to try to get some fun golf in for an event
-
I have never been to an Ace Race before. I thought it would be much quicker than it was, especially since it was only one throw per person, per hole. I thought I could show up at 9, and get two rounds in by noon. I guess everyone had the same idea that I did.
Check in, large groups, and general confusion as to the layout were big slow downs I think. All in all a fun event though.
The disc was a bit more stable than I normally throw, so it took some getting used to. I managed to hit metal once, but with the slow down between holes, it was hard to get any sort of consistency. I left after one round, because I had another commitment. I didn't think it would take almost 3 hours to check in and play one round. I'll plan accordingly next year and get there early!
-
My challenge for people to wear the oldest date disc golf shirt was put in rather last second but someone was wearing a 1990 Wide Open shirt. Trumped my 1995 Worlds Biggest. Sorry, no prize.
No matter what the whiners say Scott. This was not a normal tournament and was treated as such. Thanks for letting us have some real fun. If Todd, Otto and Deb were to have been there, the group would have been bigger and 3 times the fun we were already having.
-
I often take notes and like here people comments and concerns as it helps me with future events. I agree that even from a non player for the Ace Race, I did not like seeing such big group. Do people like the idea that I require a limit of no more than 8 per card?
Mark Mills, I did overlook your Ace, so yours counts. Several of the others that I have been told about after the fact where not marked to indicate an Ace so and Ace was not awarded. If they are not parked, there is no way for me to know if there is an Ace, especially since our format can easily get 3 or more points without getting an Ace.
-
Trying not to be a negative nancy one of the things that I was thinking of that might be a good way to make this happen would be to possibly have groups of 10 or more weight and be staggered together so that they are all is one big group and then start in the other group on like the back nine because the large groups are fun to listen to and I didn't mean to come off as a complete jerk

8 on a card seems like a good limit.
As far as the scoring goes I have a suggestion. Awarding 1 point for any metal/fabric seems excessive, especially with all the portable baskets out there(extra legs=more cheap points). Seems like it should be 1 point for metal/fabric basket and above. Probably should be 2 points for chains. Making a chain out and skipping into the pole worth the same amount of points doesn't make any sense as this is an ace race, hitting the pole/legs often isn't even close to an ace.
Still a fun event no matter what. Thanks Scott.
-
For me the concept of getting points for any basket/fabric just allows more players to have fun. Even with this scoring there are a lot of players who get 0 Points and I want to try and get as many points as possible, even if it is getting "cheaper points" points based on a low shot.
As I have talked to players, even a small amount of points is better than no points.
i could always go to the format that Aces are marked with an A and metal is marked with an M and the most A's win followed by the most M's win as a tie breaker. That is the originally scoring outlined by Discraft for Ace Races. This would also eliminate the question whether an Ace was received on a card or not.
-
Fun time. Ideas for next year:
Throw 2 each hole.
On holes with multiple baskets, move them about a foot or two apart. I thought normal hole 7 would have been cool to have a few spaced inside putting circle.
As far as gang golf, if you think groups were big, you haven't played on an Andy and Deano card.
And hey Discraft, nice disc and merch, but way too much disc for an ace race. These disc had to be snapped pretty hard to fly straight. In my Polish opinion these discs are not that stable just a little fast for the distance required. Resulting in them going left(for rhbh) quickly when they slow.
Thanks Josh, Swade, and Scott for getting it together. Also thanks to Kcfdc for bringing out some goodies as well.
-
I rather enjoyed the gang golf feel. Normally I like a fast pace but with everyone only throwing once, I thought we were moving along nicely.
-
Great event, well run given you were working with at least 273 sets of expectations with minimal overlap of said expectations.
And how about those discs? Any left over?
-
Now I just need to decide if I will practice with my buzzz or my roc to get ready for next month 8)
Details coming next week. Gonna be good!
Big props to Scott and all invloved. 273 seemed to go fairly smooth unless you arrived at 8:30. :o Good lay out and good flow to Swope as usual.
The only change I would make involves a DJ, libations (this was club event after all), a little snack and a MAP. A map on the back of the rules and directions would have helped a lot of people.
-
I never heard about the minimal 8 per card until now. I'm not protesting that concept. If this were part of the rules before we started, nobody asked us to trim it down after we started or between rounds, although a couple people dropped out but not because of the size of the card. But the old addage "the most fun wins" should never be forgotten. Our group had lots of fun.
I like the concept of marking M and A but all that needs to be acknowledged to differentiate is the A.
-
have groups of 10 or more weight and be staggered together so that they are all is one big group . . . because the large groups are fun to listen to and I didn't mean to come off as a complete jerk
So fat people have to be staggered? And all fat people are fun?? yea Jack maybe you are a complete jerk. LOL.
Just playin with you. I love it when people on the interwebs use the wrong words. There funny.
-
Talk to text on my phone as I was driving...so yeah! I maybe a jerk, and at times I am one, I am ok in that notion though.
THere isn't a minimum 8 count on the card, and no one was going to ask the MONSTROSITY group to pare down after you started, I just think that MAYBE if you wanna go that way that there is a SET time for the groups in excess of 10 that all have to tee off about the same time so that the next groupings can alter their plans.
