Title: Swope League 2012
Post by: sirbronco on March 13, 2012, 10:55:23 AM
I am giving you all a two week notice that it is time to start up Swope League once again for the summer months of 2012.  I will start it up on Tuesday, March 27 at 5:30 and I will move the time back to 6 after a few weeks.  I will certainly keep updates here.

I have some ideas for play this summer, but any ideas you have will certainly be welcome as well.  Let me know.

One idea is to do an "opening night" potluck of sorts.  Each player can bring a side dish to share, and I will provide the meat to grill.

Thoughts??

See ya on the course -

Van

*BUMP

Beginning 3/27/2012, Swope League will be going on at 5:30.  We should have plenty of light to play.

I plan on being there by 4:30, grilling some brauts and burgers.  I need some people willing to bring the buns, condiments, chips, and drinks to share (The LD drinks Mt. Dew) (or anything else you want to share).  Any takers??
Thanks,

Van

Swope League 03/27/2012

I meant to get these posted yesterday, but have been a bit disorganized the past couple of days, and just plain forgot.

We had a very beautiful night for some grilling and some DG'ing.  Was able to grill up some burgers and brauts.  Thanks to Mark and Bobby for bringing the buns, chips, and drinks to share.  I thought were going to have to fight the wind all night, but it died down just before we tee'd off at 5:40.  We played all the short tees, so some good looking Ace runs on 11 short and 18 short, but no one got an Ace.  On to the scores:

Pro:
Frank W - 50 - $10.50
Todd H - 50 - $10.50
Jordan H - 51 - $3.00
Ted K - 51 - $3.00
Dan H - 53
Mark S - 54
Greg U - 54
Eric K - 54
Frank F - 55

Advanced:
Brian P - 52 - $9.00 KC Kash
Nate F - 57 - $5.00 KC Kash
Ian S - 57 - $5.00 KC Kash
Bobby D - 61
Van S - 64

Women:
Suzette N - 60 - $3.00 KC Kash

13 people got in on the Ace Fund, so it goes up by $13.00 to ?? (Not sure...will have to get back to ya on that one).

See ya next week week.  We will once again (attempt to) tee off at 5:30.

Last night was one of the best nights so far this year for some Disc Golf.  The temps were in the mid 70's with no wind to speak of.  Thanks to everyone for coming out.  We continued to play the short T-pads with no mandos or OB (except the streets).  Shannon C. won the CTP (took a Z plastic XL - Thanks DD) after landing about 4 feet from the pin...we shot from 9's T-pad to 2's short pin.

Pro:
Eric E. - 46 - $7.00
Shannon C. - 46 - $7.00
Mark S. - 46 - $7.00
Jordan H. - 47
Matt H. - 49
Jason R. - 50
Ben C. - 57

Women:
Suzette N. - 61 - $9.00
Yanina L. - 66
Rhonda C. - 71

Ams:
Matt C. - 56 - $9.00 KC Kash
Dan H. - 57 - $6.00 KC Kash
Van S. - 60
John C. - 64

With all 14 getting into the Ace Fund, it goes up by another $14.00 (Should be in the Mid $230's).  Still trying to find that total.

Next week, we will tee off at 5:30 (probably for the last time...will let you know for sure).

Thanks,
Van

Van, the stating ace fund is on the league spreadsheet. You'll need to fill it out for the past couple of weeks to have the current total.

Swope League 4/10/2012

What a wonderful night to play some disc!  23 came out for the beautiful weather.  The temps were in the mid 50's at tee time and got a bit cool by the end of the round.  A slight wind was coming out of the north, which made the weather feel even better (at least in my opinion).  We played no O.B. (except the roads), but played from the long pads and with all mando's enforced.  With all 23 getting in on the Ace Fund, and no one hitting an ace, the amount increased to $255.  Next week, we will be (once again) playing from the short pads and no mandos, but will be starting at 6pm (with the later start time, I want to make sure everyone finishes before it gets too dark).  On to the scores:

Pro:
Jason R. - 47 - $12.00
Mark S. - 49 - $9.00
Fred F. - 50
Ryan K. - 51
Slim B. - 51
Craig W. - 57
Jason L. - 58

Masters:
Pete C. - 45 - $9.00
Ron K. - 46 - $5.00
CD S. - 48 - $4.00
Otto S. - 50
Todd H. - 52
Kelly W. - 54

Ams:
Steve D. - 54 - $12.00 KC Kash (won a Z Nuke from Dynamic Discs in the CTP contest on hole #2)
Matt K. - 55 - $9.00 KC Kash (won the tie)
Ian S. - 55 - $8.00 KC Kash
Ryan N. - 56 - $4.00 KC Kash
Joel S. - 57
Matt C. - 57
Jonathan C. - 61
Ron C. - 65
Bobby D. - 69

Women:
Suzette N. - 53 - $3.00 KC Kash

Remember, next week, 4/16/2012, make sure you have your taxes done and in the mail by 5pm, that way you can make it to Swope by 6pm.

I was gonna say the course was super short, conditions great, and maybe somebody just had a great night. If you kill it one week, that doesn't imply it is a given. The great thing about any individual sport is that any given day you can rock or it can rock you.

Swope League 4/24/2012

One of the more windy league nights this year.  It was mid 80's with a wind coming out of the south.  However the wind began to die down (doesn't it always??) before the end of the round.  The shot of the night was watching Ekolk warming up on #2.  He stepped up for his first throw, and hit a beautiful ace.  Too bad it wasn't during the league round.  The ace fund it getting up there.  With all 16 players getting into the Ace Fund this week, it has risen to $299.   CTP was won by Ben C - he got a 165 Buzzz.

For the final time (this spring), we played all short pads with no mandos and no O.B.  Beginning next week, things will start to get mixed up more.

***OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:  Beginning next week, on the first Tuesday of each month, I will be playing random draw dubs (format to be decided later).***

I will not be able to make it next week, so Ekolk has graciously agreed to head up league next week.  Thanks Eric!  I should return the following week.

Okay, now for the scores:

Open:
C.D. S. - 42 - $14.00
Mark S. - 49 - $8.00
John F. - 49 - $8.00
Fred F. - 52
Kevin A. - 52
T.J. R. - 54
Ekolk - 54
Philip S. - 54
Terry E. - 55
Ben C. - 55

Ams:
Ian S. - 54 - $7.00 KC Kash
Kelly W. - 56 - $4.00 KC Kash
Van S. - 58

Ladies:
Suzette N. - 57 - $9.00
Rhonda C. - 66
Megan O. - 76

Again, next week, random draw dubs with Ekolk.

Swope League 05/08/2012

The weather could not have been more perfect for a mid Spring night.  The temps were in the upper 60's at tee off, and there was little to no wind most of the round.  The course was set mostly medium length, and we played with full mandos, O.B., and all long pads, and had plenty of sunlight at the end of the round.  Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was not able to play, but enjoyed watching the others play.  It also gave me some great putt practice time.

Open:
Shannon C. - 45 - $12.00
Joe H. - 48 - $9.00
Mark S. - 50 - $3.00
CD S. - 51
Mike M. - 51
Jason L. - 55
Fred F. - 56
Matt C. - 58

Women:
Suzette N. - 69 - $3.00 KC Kash

Ams:
John C. - 64 - $7.00 KC Kash
Dan L. - 65 - $4.00 KC Kash (first time playing league)
Ron C. - 70

As mentioned, we had a first time league player.  I got to talk to him on Saturday at DGD and convinced him to come out to league night, and it was good to see him.  I think we now have a new regular Tuesday night player.

CTP went to Shannon C.

Swope League 5/15/2012

First off, I am sorry it took me so long to get these scores posted...been kinda hectic in the Spratford household the past couple of days.

The weather was once again gorgeous.  There was really no wind to speak of.  The temperatures were in the upper 70's at tee off.  Could not have asked for a better night.  We had 26 out on this beautiful night, including some first time Swope Leaguers.  Thanks for coming out.  Shot of the night, Matt Crowe stepping up to #9 and making a beautiful ace on his first throw.  Great news on that, it was a half hour before league started, and no aces were hit during the round, so the Ace Fund continues to go up.  Eric K. won a Champion Destroyer in the CTP.

Open:
CD S. - 45 - $10.50
Mike M. - 45 - $10.50
Jon O. - 48 - $1.00
Steve T. - 48 - $1.00

Swope League 5/22/2012

I know, I know, this bad habit of mine is getting really bad...but here we go!

Once again, this was a beautiful night...don't think that it is going to stay that way too much longer...it is going to be getting hotter and hotter.  Oh well!  To paraphrase someone's signature, a hot day on the disc golf course is better than no golf at all.  Again, no one has hit the Ace Fund, and so it is up to $371.  We played a longer than normal mix as some of the holes are already in the Gold formation.  Next week, if all goes according to plan, we will be playing the Swope Gold configuration before the Wide Open gets here.  If you know of any out-of-town guests that will be coming in for the KCWO, please invite them to play 5/29.

Scores:
Open:
Jake B. - 52 - $17.00
Mark S. - 53 - $11.00
Chris T. - 56 - $8.00
Jack L. - 56 - $8.00
Vince C. - 57 - $2.00
Jordan Z. - 57 - $2.00
Scott H. - 57 - $2.00

Small change of plans for League tonight!

We will still be playing the Gold course, but I want to start send out cards as soon as possible...

So, I will be there no later than 5:30 and will start taking sign ups at that point.  As soon as I have 3 on a card, I will send that group out.  If you want to go with a certain group, let me know, and I will put you on a card with them...please limit it to 3-4 people.  My goal is to send out that last cards by 6.

I will have a sheet that shows the Swope Gold config (thanks to Timko) for those who are not familiar with it.  Make sure you get one from me.  To save on printing supplies, I will only give one to each card.

Thanks and see ya tonight,

Van S.
816-665-1906

P.S. Call me if you are going to be late and I will try to hold a card for you.

Someone left one of my discs in the disc return at Swope. How do I go about getting it back?

Thanks

Those are typically cleared out once a week and taken down to DGW.  As of last night, I did not see any discs in the return, so someone has them in their possession, if not already at DGW.

Swope League 5/29/2012

Swope is looking great!  It truly is a pleasure to play such a beautiful course on a beautiful night.  We had 33 out for league...I would have made 34, but decided to help get the course ready by laying down some of the OB for the Wide Open.  We had several out-of-town guests play league, which made for a fun round for all.  Also, we played the Gold Layout (see other parts of this forum for the specifics of the layout if you are not already familiar), which adds to the length and the Par (60).  My highlight of the night...getting to shoot the breeze with Dave Feldberg after he was done practicing for the the Wide Open!

Thank you to all for coming out and playing a great, long round.  We did a rolling start beginning at 5:30, and I was not done with payout until almost 9:30.  What a great night, through and through!

Next week, if I can convince Timko to leave Swope Gold set up, I am planning on doing doubles in this long layout.  If not, it will be regular Swope layout.  I will make that announcement as we get closer to next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, I just want to throw out my "Good Luck" to everyone who is playing in the Kansas City Wide Open.  We have guests coming in from all over.  Kansas City, lets show them our best.  This is going to be a great weekend of golf for everyone.  Make sure you stop and say hello to me at Water Works (will be there all weekend).

Small group out for some doubles action on the gold course. I didn't really have to do much to help out, just carry the money til the end of the round. Hmmmmmmm, which actually at swope is kind of a big deal (patting myself on the back now). Had 10 to start but 2 cavemen not familiar with this world wide web thing showed up 2 holes late. Fred and Jason wanted in on the league, and since we're not talking about tank and arturo showing up and wanting to team up, i decided to abuse my newfound authoritie and let them in. Ended up just making $3 more a piece for second place, you're welcome. ;D

6 teams on a slightly breezy night

MikeD / LeeK       52     $20
MikeM / EricK      53      $16
MattC / MattF      54
JasonL / FredF     57
GMoney / DanL    61
EdH/Scott            63

Van, hope you get that worked out and i have some club money for ya the next time i see ya.

Swope League 06/12/2012

The weather continues to be beautiful for Tuesday nights at Swope Park DGC.  80 degrees with low humidity makes for a perfect round (at least weather wise).

We had 19 out last night.  We had a CTP on hole #1, a full-color Buzzz going to Scott H. who parked his drive about 8 feet from the basket.  All got into the ace fun, and no one got an ace, so the fund goes up by another 19.  We played with all Mandos, O.B.'s, and Long Tee pads.  (I hate 13 long tee pad...).

Open players:
Kevin C. - 50 - $12.50
Mike M. - 50 - $12.50
Matt C. - 53 - $7.00
Todd H. - 53 - $7.00
Pete C. - 55 - $3.00
Eric K. - 56
Mark S. - 57
Jason L. - 58
Fred F. - 59
Shane C. - 59
Dan H. - 59
Scott H. - 61
Craig W. - 62
James F. - 63

Women:
Suzette N. - 61 - $3.00 KC Kash

Am Players:
Dan D. - 68 - $9.00 KC Kash
Adam A. - 72 - $6.00 KC Kash
Dan L. - 75
Van S. - DNF

Next week, I will be out of town, so EKolk has agreed to cover for me.  Please see him for sign ups.  Thanks!

I'll be moving some of Swope shorter tomorrow for Tuesday's league. I'm leaving 15 in the peninsula and 1 long, but moving most of the rest. See you Tuesday for league.

I was also thinking that since Old Pike Mike brought his league to Swope; we should return the favor sometime this summer. Wachou tink?

Swope League June 19, 2012
Twelve out for league on a short course, save 15, and swirling and gusting winds. So, yeah it was short but scores were not too low. Only Scott Herring could put in the wind to win at -4. Tavish and Suzette represented the ladies golf. Note Tavish and I shot the same  Nice shooting in that wind it was not forgiving. Scott’s 4 down was with 7 birdies.

Open
Scott H- 50- $14
Jon Osgood- 55- $9
Brian Palmer- 56- $7
Eric Kolkmeier- 57
Fred F.- 58
Mike Murphy- 60
Stiles- 61
Jethro Tull- 64
Sprint- 64
Dan D- 65

Women
Tavish- 57 -$6
Suzette- 67

Swope League 06/26/2012

A though has occured to me:

With the dedication of the Jesse James course in Kearney being at 5pm tonight, we could suspend Swope league tonight and all go up to Kearney to support Dick Parker and his efforts of getting this new course in the ground.

Thoughts?  Would you prefer to keep league as normal, or go up to Kearney?

For me it all depends on getting out of work early this week. But as for this evening, I was gonna play Swope, but then I saw the doubles thing and now will definitely head to Kearney if work allows it. Doubles: It's for winter. ;)

Swope League tonight! The course is still pretty short and looking better after the Fourth of July bonanza. I'll be out there early pulling and collecting trash. If you are out on the course and see a full bag of trash, please pull or carry it to the road, so our friends at P&R will pick it up.

I'll also move a couple of pins tonight, but still keeping it a little shorter then WO setting  :D

Hope to see you out there! The weather is finally great.

Luckily I had all we needed, except KC Cash.

Eighteen peeps out for the coolest day of the week at a mere 95 degrees. Some new league players out there as well. Good to see some new faces. Please forgive the chaos. Todd  beat out Murph, and the rest of us, for first, and there was three way tie for third. Danny took last cash.

Yep, I figure that way, whenever I can attend league on Tuesday, it'll be Swope. OP is a sweet course, just don't care for doubles much.

You local League Director can always offer a $5 side bet across all divisions with a 100% Payout. I did a similar $2 one for a while and it seemed very popular.

Personal Side bets are always a tough sell IMO. But when a group of people are involved it seems to go over better. Write your local LD and ask them to offer this at your league today!

I'm Dickie Pee and I approved this message!

You don't even need your local League Director to do that.  If someone would like to step up to do that in addition to what your league director already spends every week doing, that would be awesome.

I'm setting the whole course short tomorrow due to the heat. Ace fund is about 485-500. I'm not for sure, but worth one short nonetheless.

You're lost because I misread a previous post.  So mine doesn't make much sense now.  I thought someone had written that it's not about the money, but about club participation.  I'm all for club participation, but I'm not exactly making a truckload of cash at work.  Until I do, I'll be playing where I can win the most money.

That said, I love Swope league.  It's a lot of fun.

ARGH!  I should have read this forum first huh, I didn't know about the bag tag issue until I got there....oh well, I hope to give someone the fine 271 I took because I wanted to leave and not wait for the scoring, and all that other fun stuff!

typical.  I just don't come in here because the thread is too long for me to ensure that I am up to date in all honesty.  I am a lazy troll junkie, and when I see 12 pages all just leagues, I think well......eh......

 ;D

Thanks for running the league though Van!!  I do appreciate it, and even though my STOOOOOPID 5 on #1 cost me, I still had a good time playing on the "family of Brothers" card!

Thanks,

Jack

No Swope League tonight...I wont be able to run it next week as I have something to do with my daughter's school.  So, if someone wants to step up and run it, I would appreciate it.  Otherwise, it has been a fun year!  Looking forward to it again next Spring.

See ya on the course!

i heard you could use a putter? <- kinda lame. seems like you should have half the field play one mold the first round and the alternate mold the secound round, and best aggregate score for the mold wins. clearly older more experienced players were raised on rocs, and the younger big guns were weened on buzz. tourney was clearly roc throwers vs buzz chuckers. i'm a fan of science, so i throw a 180 element.

Plenty of young throwers using rocs...

roc vs buzz utz. if you want to know which disc performs better at a course, each player should throw a complete round with each disc. that is the most scientific way you can determine if a roc or buzz is more suited for any given player, or a more reliable disc overall. putting and driving with the same disc is the key to accumulating data for each mold <since they are both midrange discs>. if you're up to a midrange battle @ ww league, i'll take my element against your whateva and we can review the scientific method during the round. unless you can lend me a hornet, i think those are great midranges too. comparing rocs and buzzez is like comparing the beatles and the stones, ford vs chevy, gaga and madonna. FYI, i'd go see the stones with madonna in a chevy.
