busted ankle be damned!  I can't wait.  I know that we will "fix" #2 and #6 in the event that "new baskets" aren't in place, we will bring in some from my yard if need be.  We have the tools to make it work, and we have plans in place.

Looking forward to it.  By that point hopefully I can walk in a wrap and not a cast to play again.....sux....hopefully I will be in the area as well not in Nebraska by then....URGH

I am a little confused.  Is little blue the Blue valley short course or the shorter baskets(Red I think)  on the longer course?  I have only played blue valley once and we played the version which allowed you to choose between red or blue and sometimes both were the same.

Little blue is a short version of big blue. And I'll cancel out Dangers bogey with a push of the birdie button

Little Blue and short Cliff Drive is a must due to time constraints.  Check in is currently scheduled for 8-9 AM, meaning we probably won't tee off at Blue Valley until 9:15 at the very earliest.  Daylight savings is that Sunday, and sunset is around 5:15.  Take away an hour for lunch, and that only leaves 7 hours to play both courses, which is going to be cutting it close, even with the "short" Blue Valley configuration.  I imagine it will be very difficult to finish both rounds before sunset if this tournament has more than 72 players.

Post by: jack on October 15, 2013, 04:18:03 PM
I was just trying to put together a plan to get the big Blue and short Cliff in the same day.  Unfortunately not everyone plays as quickly as Danger and I, so I take that into consideration, and even if I shorten BV as short as you can from the "long pads" it will be a 4.5 minimum tourney round.  That leaves us being done at 2 pm for BV, then lunch, 3:15 start at Cliff, and finishing at 5:45 at Cliff, with all of us using "illegally modified discs" due to glow sticks.

With that being said, going to the "inner" course at Blue Valley should allow us to finish the round one by 12:30, start Cliff at 1:45, be done by 4:30 and have light for everyone.

I will work with Scott to move back into Daylight Savings era next year, but this is what we have to deal with this year, and is my own suggestion.

Prove us wrong, pre-register and fill up so we start earlier.......

"illegally modified discs"

Glow lights can be legally used in the situations of decreased daylight.

http://www.pdga.com/glowin-in-the-winter (http://www.pdga.com/glowin-in-the-winter)

Quote
Question: Can only PDGA Approved glow discs be used for sanctioned play in the dusk and dark?

Answer: The PDGA office has approved a blanket waiver so any PDGA Approved disc may be used with glow stick or LED light attached, preferably to the underside of transparent discs, after sunset in your time zone. In addition, LED lights taped to PDGA Approved discs can be used during daylight specifically when there is sufficient snow cover on the course and the LED might make the disc easier to locate. Non-PDGA Approved discs such as those with built-in LED lights cannot be used at any time during sanctioned play.

I think we should push this after dark.  How cool would that be?!

Better yet - include some LED's in the player's pack.
Or a glow disc itself (althought they are hard to see in my opinion).

We have had a few more registrations for the City of Fountains.  Pre Registration will help us determine how many players we can allow into this event.  If Pre-Reg is low than we will just fill one course, if pre reg starts to fill, we can make the arrangements to split between the two courses allowing for more players.

As of now I am planning on keeping it as little blue and a cliff set up short.  The earlier time just helps us not to have to deal with darkness.

If we move to October next year we may be able to get both in, but right now, and having "inexperienced players at Blue Valley" playing will slow things down out there so much, even "little Blue" will be playing close to 4 hours for some, with Cliff even in short setting taking 3 hours for tourney play, that means 7-7.5 hours of golf, 1.5 for lunch = 9 hours.  Starting at 8:30=~5:00-5:30 finish:
Nov 3, 2013   6:48 AM   5:15 PM   10h 26m 30s   − 2m 11s   12:02 PM   35.6°    92.206

Note, that is though Daylight Time change to standard, so the 8:30 start will still feel like 9:30 to most folks that day.  On a positive note, don't change your clocks, and you will be on time and help with registration.

This cuts it close on time, but should be ok for the most part for the event!

Hoping I can Hop into the event!

http://kcparks.org/park/blue-valley-park/ (http://kcparks.org/park/blue-valley-park/)

The last sentence.  It was removed and the funding for the additional disc golf courses for Blue Valley that I had written a grant for were requested by the KCMO P&R to use for the current water park.

The fountain needed over $1million in repairs and wasn't going to be working appropriately possibly even with that repair.  As such a determination was made to remove it and proceed with the existing park.  That fountain initially (as I have been told) was used similarly to the water park, where people played and enjoyed the spraying during the summer months.  You may remember that there was a "beach volley ball" area as well to the north of the existing water park (some of you may have helped me get my truck out when it got stuck there during a temp set up) so that area was heavily used in regards to that patronage at one point.  It went into disrepair in the 80's I believe and never was fixed....sat un-used, and finally removed......

I know (or think that I do) too much about these parks that I work in and love don't I?...... ???

I played Little Blue Valley Sunday morning and the course is in really pretty nice shape.  The fairways are all mowed with the exception of hole 14.  That area has been mowed it was just not as short as the other fairways.  The course is still set for Big Blue so I just played to the empty sleaves to get in some practice.  The only problem that I noticed was that the sleave for hole 12 is bent.  Something hit it hard enough to bend the sleave and crack the concrete.  Eveything else looked like move the baskets and we are all set for City of Fountians.

Whilst in town for 60 hours this weekend, I did manage to take a key over to DDKC for Scott.  I think that he has it, and I don't think that many of them need to be moved because of the Jerusalem Farms event.  Scott, you may want to go and walk through/play it to make a determination on the layout.

I would suggest the following though:
1-Original
2-Short (ACE RUN BABY!)
3-Only
4-Right (Hillside)
5-Short
6-Right (tunnel)
7-Front of the hill
8-Trees
9-only
10-Middle (to the right top of the hill...need 2 people to move this basket)
11-Short basket (Red)
12-Only
13-Either SHORT (New) or LONG
14-short
15-Under the Tree
16-Short
17-Short
18-By Trees (Lower)

My suggestions on the course, but you can choose!

As for Blue Valley.....
http://www.kcfdc.org//docs/Course_Maps/BVoverheadview.pdf (http://www.kcfdc.org//docs/Course_Maps/BVoverheadview.pdf)
Is a great MAP, we will be playing the RED portions of the course, that is the inner course or "Little Blue".  You want to read the MAP for "S" configurations, in other words S1 is short course #1.

Hope to be able to walk and play without crutches by then, jury is out, but I would say that as long as I don't have any set backs, I am at 60% go right now.  If it was this weekend, I would be at 30%....

I walked Cliff today and all of the baskets are in place now.  I am going to leave 18 at the top of the hill as I have never seen it there and think it would make for a cool new placement.  So Cliff is set and does not need any pins moved and I still just have to verify Blue Valley.

I would say it is a tweener hole in any position.  Nobody is going to deuce it (despite a fairway ace) and the long is definitely threeable with a good drive off the tee...

That's why the long is the best. Very hard 3, but not even an easy 4 with the slope around the basket.  both short placements are "throw far, lay-up, and move on"

Not everyone throws 400' drives consistently. 18's short placements may be tweeners for most of the Open players, but they are challenging Par 3's for most everyone else. Hopefully there will be a strong north wind that day to grab ahold of those uphill putts, then we'll see how much of a tweener it is. ;D

I played Cliff yesterday and I think 18 near the fence will definitely produce some score differential, even for the pros.  It's about the same distance from the tee as 18 short but about 30 feet higher, so it's defintely improvement if you think 18 short is a tweener.  Add in the extreme slope and any uphill putt over 20' will be challenging.

On another note, if someone gets hot, I think 45 or 44 may be possible.  If you can throw 400', every hole is a potential deuce except 1 and 18, with 6,8,12 and 17 being tough deuces.  It'll be interesting to see if anyone gets close to the course record.

16 is the hole running north/south along west side of the reservoir.  The short placement is about 330' on the side of the hill.  15 is also short and located under the tree.

the PIN on the top of the hill is actually the ORIGINAL #18 (if you wanna call it that number) pin, the one by the road came along about 4 years after that placement.  That pin has been used in the past for an alternate long #16 as well.  Drew left a basket there that thieves took (Orange one.....still pissed) but suffice it to say that is the original placement, and too many folks didn't like climbing that high up, so the lower placement was added in.  Where the "long alternate #18" is (Blue Basket) actually used to be the teeing area for what is currently #11, but moved that to the top.

The course over years has evolved, and a new evolution will be underway soon once everything aligns better in all the lives of those involved.

In the mean time, shut up and enjoy playing in a few of the best disc golf courses in the world, as well as great parks!   :P

(I am saying in jest....)  But please enjoy and remember that these courses have taken a short trip to get to where they are, and they are still in all facets babies in town.

 ;D

The sleave for hole 12 on Little Blue was still bent as of Saturday afternoon.  I do not know if it is repairable or if a new one has to be drilled and installed.  But other than that the course is in great shape.  Some one had even pick up a pile of junk that was in 9's fairway in front of the gulley.

We are currently at 47 confirmed pre registered players for this weekends.  Courses are looking good and the weather looks like it will be in the 60's and sunny.  Help me out and get pre-registered soon if you are planning on coming.

Also for the KC Mini Series, there looks like there could be a battle for 1st in Open between Tank, Arturo and Joe.  Masters is battling between Fred and Eric.  Advanced is going to come down to Heath, Soup and Peter Bures and Recreational is a battle between Danny Troop and Johnny Dinardo.

The Ace Pool is starting at $754

Johnny D is the man.  Glad he found the game.  We used to run all over this city playing pick bball any where we could find a game.  I bet he will quickly be moving up.

As of now yes, but it depends on pre-registration and if I can justify splitting the courses.  If i can have 70 by tomorrow, it gives me time to put things into place to split the courses and notify those that are pre registered to make arrangements in case of car pooling.

So anyone who knows they are going to play, pre registration would help a lot of players out.

Scott,  what's in the bonus players pack for rec players?  Really itching to move up to intermediate but I don't mind saving a few bucks on ONE more rec tourney before moving up. Also be cool to play with Danny on the final card Sunday battling it out for the mini series title.  Good luck Danny. Look forward to it. Really been an enjoyable experience playing in DD sponsored tournaments this year.  Great job Scott and to all the DD crew!

Not sure how we will play holes 12 & 13 on Little Blue when the short pin sleeve on (Normal Hole 11, Little Blue 12) is bent.  If you have to move it to long position(in trees), that is where Hole 13 is played to.  So either a temp basket will have to be placed, or skip 13 and play normal Hole 17 to finish and equal 18 holes.

Unless the pin has been fixed or can be fixed in 2 days ???  It was bent on Monday.

Also need 4 red baskets from Swope.

I know the baskets are in, so unless there is something I am not aware of, they should be in before Sunday.  12, I am not sure if it can be fixed before than so I am prepared for a temp basket there.

18 makes it an ugly tweener finishing hole... lets play it to the long??

I would say it is a tweener hole in any position.  Nobody is going to deuce it (despite a fairway ace) and the long is definitely threeable with a good drive off the tee...

I recant my previous statement about nobody deucing it despite a fairway ace.  Evidently a jump putt for two IS possible  ;D

Warming up for 09 worlds, i saw coda deuce it with a straddle from the first tree, barsby put one about 12 ft away, and aj put one past the pin, even with the second tree.  still cant believe we had no wind at cliff drive that whole week.   ::)

sorry, i didnt realize the orange pin is still in and/or is ever used.  every time i put the basket there, all i heard was cries.  nice 2, and yes, a much harder deuce, .  its the same distance horizontally, but much farther up, and the tee pad doesnt line up correctly for a big drive to that pin.  only person i've seen get to that one is big jerm.  pin high, 35 ft left.

That's funny because Tank said the same thing when we stepped off of that pad.  It doesn't line up at all, but with the wind that we had yesterday, it didn't really matter.  The disc was going to travel farther than normal up that hill.  I can't believe he was pin high - that's crazy!  I was more than content being 60-80 short.

I emailed the PDGA today to ask why it wasn't included and Andrew Sweeton said "His TD report was not complete. He has since provided it, but too late for the January update, so it will be in the February update."  I replied back to him saying the essentially the following " I doubt it.  It sounded like me the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and he had to reprove that he had paid".  We'll see if he replies back.

NOt to defend anyone, but I have worked with Andrew over the past few years, and he has been a stand up guy to contend with on all issues that I have had.

They had an issue with the TD reports going to the wrong place, and I think that it may have coincided with the transfer and changes that the PDGA has gone through.

I got a note about the NE League not being paid, and it was paid, and they said that they were looking into it.

Bottom line, its a technical glitch more than likely, that has since been remedied, and one event here and there will be correctly fixed in the future, so lets not make a big concern over it.  Lets make the Ice bowl and raising more money a bigger concern!  THis will be fixed, the same can't be said about hunger in the area.....

Don't get me wrong, I am not mad at the PDGA and everytime I have called the PDGA about any problems, they have worked hard and quickly to resolve it.  I was just explaining in this case what had happened.  They just verified with me yesterday all is good, it just wasn't all fixed in time for yesterdays update.

They get a lot of reports every week and sanction fee payments, that I understand things getting missed or overlooked.
