I love this picture. Everyone looks very concerned. Will looks like a lost, scared child. McBeth knows right where its going. I mean look at all those funny people in there. I bet you know a few of them...

The efforts of few, and the notion of many help our sport in our community.  Be it as it may those of you that support the club through your membership have helped to make KC disc golf one of the best places in the world to play the sport.  We are truly blessed even with our own little bickering at times to be in the hotbed of disc golf.  The reasons we are all here is because of you reading this, and making a difference when you play.

Help where you can, and work on what you can, or support how you can, but realize that you do make a difference and for that I am thankful to be around the best place to enjoy our sport.

Now if we could only get Mountains and the Ocean to come into play on our courses here.....if you can do that, you would be my hero.

Thank you to the tireless efforts of many that don't boast their work out on this forum, you know who you are, or you may not, because you aren't on here.  This club is celebrating close to 30(oops, how about 3 decades of arguments and frustrations, as well as great traditions and friendships, some come and some go and come back, but overall the scene in KC is one that we can all be proud of.

It didn't start with me, it won't end with me, but what it should continue to do is to bring great individuals together to make a difference in our sport.  Unified as a group of like minded individuals even with individualistic ideals and beliefs we can make it better in town, and I trust that even by reading this you have that power within you.

The goal is simple, to continue to make our sport better and more enjoyable for people of all ages.  To challenge ourselves day in and day to be a better group of collective individuals towards that goal, and to maintain the decorum needed to make it happen.  Many in our community do that daily, for that we are a positive group!

That's what I'm talking about Jack Lowe! Finally something we can agree on :)

I take the sign of bickering as an indication of how good we really have it. We love each other that much.

Jami Danger has great rollers

Eric Kolk is my Disc Golf mentor and hero

Thanks for driving, and putting me up last year at the Mighty Shunga, CD!

The list goes on folks.

Three people with PDGA numbers under 5300, including Jamie Barry, competed in Pro Grandmasters in Columbia, MO. Jamie won the division!

At the same event Fred Smith won Pro Masters and Ken "Tank" Franks was second in Open!

Way to represent KC!!

Kansas City isn't humid.

It's good to live in a disc golf mecca.

You can always find someone to have a competitive round with here.

Special thanks to all who go out of their way to help develop the skills of other players.  Wink to LaRon Harris.  What a great person and instructor.

We have amazing people who run leagues almost every day of the week.  You guys rock and I thank you after every league, but it still doesn't feel like thanks enough.

Jack Lowe carries extra plastic in his car just to give away to people who are brand new to the sport.  If he sees them throwing a Frisbee, he hooks them up with something more suitable.  What a great idea this is.  I'm adopting it and keeping some dx plastic in my car to give away and expand our influence even more.

LaRon Harris made you feel like he cared about you more than just a co-disc golfer.
Todd Henry and Otto Spiers are fun to play golf with. When Deb is with Otto, she makes things even more fun.
Fred  Smith talks about me making that wild ass 250 ft. birdie after a super crappy drive on the hidden hole 2 at WW. At least he used to.
Pete Cashen is helpful in showing different techniques.
Tavish Carduff directed some excellent KC disc golf days
K-Mont introduced me to the sport. Some may not agree this is as positive.

Went to play a round at Fox Hill Flyer last evening. I was there about a month ago and the woods were filled with trash. I went this time with trash bags expecting to play a slow round while filling bags. Someone shows that course love! It looked wonderful. It would be enough to make Cooper send letters if it was known what group did the pick up. ;D  I managed to fill two very small bags while playing.

Also, the course was really busy. Saw Johnny D. and many other singles and groups. As I was leaving there was a Mom, Grandma, and two kids starting. All were throwing discs.

I managed to break par for the first time on the course too.

Fox Hill = Positive Trifecta.

Hey Teddy,  I got to give Bill Lentz at Fox Hill much love. He is an amazing guy.  Soooo much work went into that place and Bill made it happen.  He does not even play disc golf, yet has built a successful course and has folks exercising in a lifetime fitness activity.  How awesome is it to have kids, parents, and grandparents playing together.  Bill has to do so much of the maintenance and knew that prior to the course going in and yet still openly embraced the concept of disc golf.

I know he appreciates the work of the local disc golfers helping keep the course clean.

Jose-Thanks for the kind words, sometimes those aren't even DX plastic! :-)  I enjoy getting the right equipment in the right hands.

Ted/John Thanks for putting in another great place to keep our sport moving.  AS some contemplate the pay to play notion vs. the public Private sector, remember please that thousands if not millions of hours have been done by work of volunteers here in KC to give to our sport and community.  We have all arguments about this and that, but overall, we have had an exceptional amount of work given by our community, some of which are still with us, some have passed, some have moved on.

We are very fortunate to have had many before do the work that we enjoy, and I for one am appreciative to work towards the continuation of improving disc golf in the area.

Good idea if:
1. We knew who it was.
2. They weren't DG related.
3. We could get more people to do it. One or two emails is good. Twenty is great. That is the sweet spot.

Cooper,
in case you were being sincere, ???, here is the contact info for the pe teacher responsible for getting 25-30k worth of work done for around 8k.  Most folks do not realize the cost of building a woods course and reclaiming land.  He made it happen and a thank you would be appreciated. Also, thanks to Steve Dresser who has worked hard up there using his own skid steer, spending his own time and money, to help dig out extra short kiddie pads.

Or probably mail instead. Phone calls are a little intrusive and I'm not a strong conversationalist when it comes to small talk. A letter will let me say what I want to simply and perhaps more elegantly.

Thanks John!

I also would hate to fail to mention the entire team of volunteers that helped in this years Wide Open to make it work.  Also the community at large in DG some of which have helped pull off the biggest event of its time, and the Worlds before that.  Kansas City has hosted 3 world Championship events over the past 15 years, Part of the initial "super tour" series, then the inaugural "National Tour" series, and countless events and charitable efforts to bring Disc Golf to many parts of our community that wouldn't have been here if it weren't for the constant work behind the scenes that many do.

Many of these people don't read in here, and many will never get the thanks they deserve.  A tradition of history though spreads throughout the community.  Though some will join only once as a member and feel the need to leave to go do their own thing, one thing is certain, we all enjoy this sport and work to make it better where we can.  Locally, , regionally, nationally, and internationally.  You tell anyone as you travel that you are from Kansas City when you are out disc golfing, and the chances of them knowing someone from here is about 95%, their chances of knowing someone you know area about 75%.  Try doing that in other city or area in the world.

We have great people here.  We have Hall of Fame members from here and they consider KC home.  We have opinionated brats (raising hand at self here) that fuel fires, but most of all, we all have a love for our sport, and we are truly blessed to be in a community that loves the sport as much as you do.

It is quite simple, KC Disc Golf is the best place in the world to play.  Like it or not, you have places here near and dear to your heart.  You will keep those memories always, and for that we are a positive impact on the community.

Thanks to all of you that help to support the sport!

Reading that also made me realize that we have some of the best park departments to work with.  Each one takes pride at ensuring that our voices are heard, and for that not only are positive, but it helps to build this community stronger!

Those partnerships are what have fueled the explosion of disc golf over the last decade, and that is what will continue to make more and more places available to play for us all.

Thanks to all the P&R's that have helped and continue to help us with moving our sport forward!

I'd like to thank Tom and Cindy for all they do in Olathe. The courses out there are very different than the interior club courses and don't get the same sort of support from the broader base but Tom and Cindy and the Birds (past and present) work their butts off to make sure that PC and Birdland are among the best kept courses in our metro area. I'm very lucky and very happy to have had this as my 'home' league (PC) for such a long time and look forward to one more this upcoming Monday. Please come out and celebrate this course and all the players that cut their teeth on the (sadly dying) trees that played as bunkers and learned to avoid soccer moms on just about every other hole.

I'll have some beer to share.

Thanks, Kevin. I apologize for any insensitive comments I've made. I'm dealing with a lot today and tact hasn't been high on the priority list. I know this isn't an excuse but I hope that you can forgive me.

And think about what makes the club great.

Another thing I'm thankful for: The Forum

Many people think the Forum is a waste of time and that it can't accomplish anything. To those naysayers I hope you'll consider the countless work days that have been organized, the finding of a course designer for Smithville, casual get togethers and even the Superclass event. The Forum can bring people together.

It can also be a place of intelligent discussion of club topics. Not everything has to start at a board meeting or a work day. We can use this tool as a catalyst for new ideas and hopes and dreams. We can improve the club not just with a shovel but also with a keyboard and our intellects. Don't think of this just as a place to check scores but think of what great things could start here.

Peace

As an old newbie, I would like to thank all who have helped me..

Mark Mills took his time to help me and introduced me to other players.
Dick has been very helpful at DGW and helped steer me in a positive direction. Along with others that I have meet here.

Last week I played in the Ohmaha/ Lincoln area , not bad mouthing them, just saying, I think KC has friendlyer (SPL?) players. I've been trying to get out more here but have been working on a project that has taken all my time, hence, my golfing still sucks.  :P

This forum has been great for me, both educational and humorus.

Hope to see some of you soon, after this week I will have 2 weeks until school starts.

As work is starting the busy season, my time on the course has become less and less. So, I went down to DGW and picked up a regular frisbee and started playing catch with the kids in our apt courtyard. Everyday when they get home from school instead of the phones and computers, they grab the frisbee and wake me up for a throw. Today there were almost ten kids from the neighborhood playing 500. Quite a site to see. They're throwin backhands, flicks, and even some hammer throws. Look out DGers you'll see them on the course soon.

I really cannot say enough good things about the people I have met through this sport.  Great group in general.

As for those that go the extra mile, the sport would not be what it is in KC without you.  You know who you are and you know why you do it.

Thanks gang!
