Title: Good eatin'
Post by: robm on June 20, 2013, 10:49:59 PM
What's some good eatin' places you recommend near Cliff?

I thought the fish place in the gas station down on the corner was pretty decent (how's that for vagueness).

Jamie - when you and I played league a couple of weeks ago, you mentioned some place with tamales or something or other for cheap, maybe even $1/piece.  What was that again?

Pho Hoa' KC, SE corner of Independence & Paseo, behind the hooker motel
Hamburguesa Loca (thanks Jack), SW corner of Independence & Benton, across from KFC
And of course The Humdinger, on 9th, 1 block west of Prospect

Just about any of the taco trucks are good, although I do not care for the one at Independence & Benton, in the Rent-A-Center parking lot. My favorite is the one all the way down by Independence & Hardesty, on the south side of the road, beside the auto repair garage that's just before McDonald's. Not only do I think they have the best tacos, but they only charge $1.50ea for them while the other trucks are all charging $2ea. ;D

IN between rounds for the Mighty MO, I suggest THE Blue Line in River Market (7th and Walnut), there is a good place called Hamurguesa Es Loco across from the KFC at Independence and Benton ( https://www.facebook.com/LaHamburguesaLoca?fref=ts (https://www.facebook.com/LaHamburguesaLoca?fref=ts) ).  El Guero isn't open until 6pm  :'(

I heard the place at the Paseo and Independence is good as well (Just east on the south side, it used to be Scimeca's) but I haven't ventured there yet.

Caddy Shack as well has some good pizza and it is like 3rd & holmes ( http://www.caddyshackkc.com (http://www.caddyshackkc.com) )

Of course there are others, but these are pretty ok in my book.  Call ahead for ordering it helps during lunch times so you don't feel as rushed.  You will of course need your energy for the second round at Cliff this weekend.

Is this the one you were telling me about.
As an 'out-of-towner' what avenue?  Bit more directions would be great, thanks

Caddy Shack has great pizza and a good tenderloin sandwich, I suggest tater tots with that. Cool place to grab a beer too. The Vietnamese place is pretty good on Independence Ave., but the Vietnam Cafe in Columbus park, 5th and Campbell, rocks it. Call them ahead and get it to go. It's always busy for lunch. On the Water Works side, there is In-a-Tub at 400O N. Oak. It's a not healthy but still great.

Vietnam Cafe is great, but you can have beer with your food at Pho Hoa.
