Title: KCWO Artwork
Post by: dickthediscparker on February 19, 2014, 12:03:47 PM
Hey everyone. I am looking for ideas for 2014 KCWO artwork. This will be featured on the Teeshirt and disc. I have an artist who I trust will do a great job and do it in a timely manner. I am just looking for ideas or concepts for me to get started.

Please take a minute and tell me what you think might look cool for this year's design. Thanks in advance!

Yes but I'm retiring any clocks until the 48th.

The only things that come to mind for the number 32 are freezing temperatures and Magic Johnson.  Being that the tourney is in the middle of June and we're not talking about basketball...I don't think those are going to help.

Can we find a way to graphically incorporate the courses being used for the tournament?  Maybe use a signature hole or signature aspect from each as part of the design i.e. the peace sign at WW or the clubhouse at swope or.....the dogs barking on 17 at rosie?  ;D

I am imagining an interesting concept for the artwork.  It could be an overhead 3/4 view of Kansas City except all the famous landmarks and buildings are falling over or on fire because of a severe earthquake caused by two giant hands reaching down and tearing a huge gash in the ground right in the middle of the city!

Out of the flaming sinkhole emerges a huge disc golf basket, and in the foreground of the image a giant flying disc is spinning through the sky right at it.

I wouldn't call myself an artist, but here's a rough sketch:

While I'm not a soccer fan, how about something related to Sporting KC winning the championship.

More:
something about KS vs. MO
or intersection of I70, I29, and I35

Got these from wiki
'Paris of the Plains'
'City of Fountains' although that has it's own tournament
something about being the geographical and population center of the lower 48 states
something about jazz, Negro Baseball, BBQ, beef...
Liberty Memorial / national WWI museum

KC is Federal Reserve bank 'J'.
Could use this logo with changing some of the words, or incorperating, Kansas City Wide Open:

especially if used in conjunction with this little blurb:
Quote
In the early 20th century under Democratic political "Boss" Tom Pendergast, Kansas City became the country's "most wide open town".

Maybe something similar but with the Kauffman Center.  This in a foil stamp would be cool.

I thought we agreed on last years logo being the corporate logo that gets used every year.  The number is the only thing that changed.

That's actually what I thought as well.  It's clean and simple.

Is this request for a second logo used only this year?

THe goal of the "clean Logo" was not to be ignoring everything that is cool in art, but rather having a common theme for publicizing, and working on programs to get things out while we work on art to have as the "event logo".

FOr example, when I put in requests in September of this year for the 2015 Wide Open, we won't have the event logo, but we will have the Corporate identity to the logo to put on presentations to prepare.  It is very clean, concise, and relays the message simply.

Having KICK BUTT art work is needed to have great art in your hands on the plastic, I don't think that we ever want to lose the artwork for the Wide Open, I think we always want to have great art where we can, but we also need to have a consistent identity for times when we don't have the next logo waiting.

Artwork is a VERY sore subject and subjective to all, and that makes it great.  It also though makes it VERY difficult to have more on file to use at a later date.....so send more art is what we are saying.....or at least me.

Dick says it in 2 sentences.
Jack says it in 4 paragraphs.

Both say the same.

(have a good day Jack)

About when will more information begin starting to roll out? Such as courses, round format, cost, etc.?

Soon Rob, I promise. I'm finalizing everything so when I put it out there it is as concrete as I can make it. My biggest concern is raising money. This is where I'm a little behind due to the fact that I would have liked to have a sponsorship form for folks to get out and help raise money with me. I will get that up first and then I will get onto letting everyone know how the event will go.

Now, back to the discussion at hand. Any other ideas or suggestions?

And I will not be interjecting any opinions about peoples ideas. I am not hear to say yes or no this is good or bad but rather I would like people to continue with ideas.

Thanks!

^4 paragraphs. I'm as cool as Jack.
