I haven't gotten to play in one of these yet, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Can you explain the format? Is it similar to an ace race? Do you putt and keep score or is it just counting aces and metal hits?

Do you have to use the 2 discs I assume? You use a roc for one round and buzzz for the other?

How it works usually is you sign up for the Roc or Buzzz team and use only Rocs or only Buzzzes depending on which team you signed up for.

You can use however many different Buzzzes or Rocs you have and I assume with the addition of the Buzzz OS, it will be allowed this year.

From there,  the scoring is just like any other tournament.

If I can figure out how to flick a Buzzz OS then i might be there..... until then enjoy the Backhanders Open.

Future variant idea: Give or allow each participant to throw both a Roc & a Buzzz...THEN see which is superior for each thrower.  Whutevah.

Details next week, but, yes, players sign up for Roc or Buzzz and throw that team's discs exclusively. The one  exception being the Classic Roc; it is not allowed as it is a smaller diameter disc and is a great putter (as well as mid range). That means Rancho, Roc3, KC Pro, Flat Top, etc only for Team Roc (no classics, yo!). For Team Buzzz it's SS, FLX, D, Crystal, OS, and so on. This is not an ace race. You play out on each hole as usual but with only your team's discs; hence, R vs B. With the introduction of the Buzzz OS and the Roc3, the competition should be even tighter this year.

I've been working on the layout and it's going to be a big change for Swope; we'll start at hole nine and play safari going backwards for twenty-one holes. It is a completely new look at the gully course.

Details and registration next week.

No modified anything. Roc or Buzzz. Simple-ish.

...or, a Roc vs Buzzz Ace Race where each participant throws both on each hole to determine superiority.

I call BS on the no classic roc rule. A roc is a roc. It was ok last year. Quit listening to the Buzz whiners.

Roc v Buzzz III
September 28th, 2014
9:00-3:30
Swope Park
30.00 USD
Two rounds of team play
2 Rounds of 21 holes par 63
Players declare a team: Roc or Buzzz
30 players to each team
60 total players
Thanks to our sponsors the KCFDC, the West Plaza Tomato Company, Innova, and Discraft.

Please sign up early if you want to be part of this event.

Your entry includes two discs- one KC Pro Flat Top Roc and one Crystal Buzzz with custom stamps, lunch on site, beverages, libations, CTPs both rounds and a Ring-of-Fire between rounds. Lots of prizes. Ace fund is included in your entry @ $2 per entry. There’ll be a DJ too.

Discs: Team Roc can throw all Roc models except Classic Rocs. Buzzzes include all models. You must choose a team and you may only throw the disc for that team. You may carry and throw as many of your team’s disc as you wish. I recommend throwing the same discs again though. There will be a mix of short, mid, and long holes. You will play for overall position and your team.

Schedule as follows (subject to change to meet the needs of the day): 8:30 check-in, 8:50 players’ meeting, 9:00 tee off, 11:30 lunch and drinks, 12:00 ring-o-fire, 12:40 second round start, 3:45 awards, CTP if needed to settle ace fund.

This was a great time the last two years with Team Roc winning by a hair both times. David Valdiviez, last year’s Roc champ, is playing for Team Buzzz this year. Will 2012 champ, Jose Ossa, return for Team Roc? Who will rise to the occasion? Either way, my plan is to put on a great player focused event highlighting the best of our community.
BTW, The Chiefs play Monday night this week, so no excuses for football.

I have tried to contact everyone who has played in this the last two years and have recv'd many RSVP's already. So, if you contacted  me already, I've got you on your team already. Registration will be available at DD and DGW Wednesday. If you want to play this event and have not contacted me, you should pre register as it is limited to 60 total players.

Thanks and I am still deciding which team I am going to throw for. Yes, I am finally going to try to play this thing.  :D

Registration is coming in and the discs are here. They're pretty sweet. Also, I picked up Quinton's in Waldo as well as Farm to Market as sponsors. That in addition to the support of Innova, Discraft, and the WPTC and this is coming together. If you have played this before you know I try to give it all back to the players day of. Bump.

Remembering the fallout from the scoring misunderstanding last year, can we go ahead and say how the team scoring is determined?

Is is the average total score from each team? Minus the top and bottom scores?

Is it the top x scores from one team against the top X scores from the other? (If there are different numbers on each team)

Can I use a Buzzz, Buzz SS and a Buzzz OS? Pretty sure I can, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.

Ring of fire? - Only Buzzz or Rocs?

Flyer says Ace fund included @ $2 per entry. Does this mean its included in our entry fee? Or included in the event so bring $2?

Sorry for all the questions but its better to get them answered here than take up time at the players meeting.

I will have the rules on the back of the cards, but here is the gist: no maximum score as the course will be a super friendly and atypical layout (map to come).

Is is the average total score from each team? Minus the top and bottom scores?
No, all scores are used. Including outliers

Is it the top x scores from one team against the top X scores from the other? (If there are different numbers on each team)

If this fills, 30 and 30. As of now, Buzzz is half full and Roc is nearly there.

Can I use a Buzzz, Buzz SS and a Buzzz OS? Pretty sure I can, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.
Yes, and Roc 3, Rancho, Flat Top, etc. but no Classic Rocs

Ring of fire? - Only Buzzz or Rocs?

Yes, all day baby

Flyer says Ace fund included @ $2 per entry. Does this mean its included in our entry fee? Or included in the event so bring $2?

$30 USD includes ace fund.

Sorry for all the questions but its better to get them answered here than take up time at the players meeting.

So with the data gathered and having a better and more evenly distributed sample size, the winner is Team Buzzzz.

Google Docs is having an issue with the share functions right now, but here is the breakdown for both teams. I'll add the formatted link when it is available.

The average, or mean, is very close with Buzzz just ahead, but it's the other three measures that tell the story. Also, the top 20% was nearly one stroke ahead.
While Jose won overall, Team Buzzz took this year's challenge.

I would be remiss if I did not extend a bazillion thanks to Mike and Melissa Petrin for their amazing assistance day of. Patrick Smith and Gary B. are responsible for the amazing upkeep of the course. And this year's sponsors: Innova, Discraft, Farm to Market bread, Quinton's in Waldo, DGW, DD, the omnipresent West Plaza Tomato Company, and number one, the KCFDC.

For those who got aces or a little of the limited cash. I will go to the bank tomorrow and get change made. I will leave your winnings at DGW Thursday morning to be picked up at your convenience.

You know, a PM would do the trick. You know who ran this event. Publicly calling out on two forums. I have got zero respect for that.

I had a big long diatribe written out in response to kidmills but decided against it.

Instead I'll say this: Thank you Eric for making sure that all of these extra events go well. Thank you for donating your time, energy, effort, and personal funds to continue ensuring that KC has one of the most active and best DG clubs in the country. Thanks for wrangling volunteers to make sure that regional tournaments and events remain the best in the midwest. Thanks for everything else you do that I've certainly neglected.

area courses that don't have ONE HOLE that has a pin in the wrong spot.

First world problems.

three eloquently composed posts in less than a ten minute span. sounds like too much keystone light, too little common courtesy.

Yeah.  What he sa8d.  We need excitement in here....i didn't even read this until Dick called him out.  Common courtesy would have been to replace what you move...but I'm guilty from time to time.  This could also be why Dan is upset if has taken over 3 months to replace the red ones

September 2015 is coming up. I just had a weird idea for the 2015 RvB that I'd like to toss out: temporary tattoos! They could look something like this, only cleaned up into nice line art:

They can be made in small runs and ordered online from a number of vendors with just a week or two of lead time, for $1 each for a 2"x2" or about $2 each for 4"x4" or the like. Would people want to temporarily festoon their upper arms, calves, faces, or other appendages with the mascot of their team, or are we all too mature for such foolishness?

How about if you can have the bee helplessly dangling in the Roc's talons? Now that would be a stamp worthy of all my Rocs!!

I guess for the other side you could make one of the bee stinging the Roc, but then the bee would die... it's a win win for the Roc!!!

Great idea for the discs, you guys already have art at the press?

I know the person who dyed this one, I doubt that he would have any problems with you using the design.

While the temp tattoos are a great idea, if my recollection serves me, though, there is very little in the way of margin between cost of entry fee and what is already in the players pack, so cost may be an issue. Not sure, but I know that most tournaments have very little wiggle room between cost of players pack and entry fee. $2 doesn't seem like a lot, but it can be. Especially if they preorder and there are a ton left over. Unlike leftover discs, leftover tattoos probably won't sell that well and these are such a specific item, to boot. Just my two cents after attending three quarters of a year of board meetings.

Sorry to add to the confusion.

Edit: Oh, heh. The 20th. The final day of the Trilogy Öppna. I guess I won't be able to attend. =\
