Terrible course for a tournament, hope you've cleared this with Ottawa Parks. Very limited parking, no tee pads, a walking trail that gets plenty of traffic comes into play on 8 of the 18 holes and the kids playground can be hit with an errant shot on hole 9. Fun Fact: HeWho was the course designer.

Yes, I cleared it with the city.  That is always my first step.

Most courses have limited parking that cannot accomodate a full tourney.  Centennial Lawrence, Longview Perry, Blue Valley KCMO for example.  We'll deal with it.

Tee pads are taking care of by utilizing flags and allowing people to tee from grass besides the tee pad or behind tee pad.  Personally, I think the pads are no big deal when you look at the size comparred to the amount of space you have when you are driving from a lye in a fairway (directly behind your disc / marker, 11", etc.)  If it is really bothersome, you can use the marked natural pad.

We will have alternate tee pads.  Short for Junior, Rec, Rec Women, Int. Women and maybe Adv. Grandmaster.  Long for others.  Some of the long tees will be the walking trail.  It is Ottawa, not Central Park.  It isn't that busy.

Players and pedestrians will need to be careful regarding each other as with any tournament.  Both can manage.  It will be OK.

Tournaments I intend to run will not be 'normal' tournaments on normal courses using the same ol', same ol'.  Grow the sport by providing alternate options to the same old thing.  Some will like it, others won't.  Vanilla and chocolate options.

Defiance Beer returns as a sponsor.  Yum.

Thank you.

WTF?

Yeah I guess when we had close to 3000 people out there we didn't have parking?

You make little sense at times...come play the course and see that there are roads all around with ample parking. before you start to comment on items that make no sense.

Really Jack?  You must stalk me just to bust my rear.

The actual parking lot at BV is small.  However people park in the street.

The parking lots at Ottawa, Lawrence, and Perry are small, however people park in the street.  I was addressing the issue of very limited parking brought up by others.

Thank you for your concern.  I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Thanks!

Heehee.  I know, most AdvGM can kick my rear (along with Jack kicking my rear when he can find a chance to).

I see DD Emporia sometimes puts GM's on short pads.  I'm open to discussion.

You missed my point completely Rob. It's not about how the Kanza DGC will affect your tournament but how your tournament is going to affect Kanza DGC, the closest course to my house.

It doesn't seem like you gave much thought to my concerns so I'll take them up with the Ottawa Parks Dept, they may take them a little more seriously. I'm sure they are going to love your "not central park" quote.

Read as: I'm going to raise hell because I don't want a tournament at a course by my house? I don't know why this is turning to gripe on Rob. He's trying to address concerns and has done his best at past tournaments to work with locals to improve course flow for safety *SEE: Atchison/Damon Morgan*. Instead of complaining to the parks department and taking a quote totally out of context, why don't you offer to help with course flow to have a great tournament near your house. You wrote two sentences, all negative, and provided zero corrective feedback to improve the situation. I'm sure you do a lot for disc golf out there Dan, and I'm really not meaning this as a negative post. I just am tired of seeing posts turn into dog on Rob for trying to incorporate little used courses in tournament play.

Nice to meet you Steve. As long as there are a minimum of three Propogators, the PDGA ratings will be rated correctly per Chuck Kennedy, the main creator of the PDGA rating system. For greater detail on how the work, I would recommend contacting the PDGA rating committee. As far as the flow goes, for this course, having different tee pads will help the flow of play, give higher divisions greater challenges, while encouraging lower divisions with a more realistic experience for their playing level.  Thanks for asking.

Steve Stransberry or Strawberry?

Both the PDGA Am Worlds and the PDGA Pro Worlds used long and short tee pads both in 2013 and 2014. It does work. It will be ok.

 Thanks.

Steve, et al,

This is a great discussion on ratings. I actually have spent quite a bit of time researching on how they work. You could say I'm a rating geek.

For more information, I would recommend reading this:

http://www.pdga.com/ratings (http://www.pdga.com/ratings)

For further clarification, if you email Chuck Kennedy with the PDGA, he is really good at explaining things and replying pretty quickly. After emailing him personally and reading various commentaries he has written, he strikes me as being very intelligent on the subject matter.

Ah, it is Steve Stansberry! Sorry, I didn't recognize your handle. The different tees really are utilized at various tournaments, even at worlds. As long as there are 3 Propogators it's all good. Hope you can make more of Maverick's DG tournaments. My goal is cheap tournaments on new courses. Payouts might be lower, but I'm not a huge company.

Hope you understand.  It's about the game, right?!

Thanks

In Ottawa today. Parking lot has 26 spaces. Walked into closest business, Fry Orthodontist and received permission to use their lot, another 28 spaces. Street parking is available.

As I typed I also walked into Kanza Park Business Offices and spoke with two different companies. Both said parking will be allowed. This is over another 50 spaces which takes the total to over 100 spaces with a one block walk. The tournament will cap at 90 players leaving an excess of parking.

Regarding the playground, a throw will really have to be errant on the magnitude of hitting the skateboarders on hole 1 at Rosedale, but just to be certain we will paint an OB line along the fairway.

Regarding the walking path, personally the most I've ever seen was about 6 people total. Both players and walkers will need to be courteous of each other as any other day. The path and course was approved by the city prior to Kanza Krush being thought of.

I am told by Ryan Sipple, local player, resident, worker in Ottawa and individual that runs Franklin County DG FACEBOOK page, that this will be at least the third tournament at Kanza that he is aware of.

PDGA rules state no less than 3 people and no more than 5 people on a card. If you only have 3 people and one person has to quit then the two remaining players has to split up and/or join the card in front or back of them to finish the round.

HOLE 16 – Sidewalk left is OB. Mando left (will be same mando tree as hole 14)

HOLE 17 – Long tee is normal tee. Short tee will be moved up 200-300 feet not yet designated. Sidewalk left and right is OB.

HOLE 18 – Tee for both Pools will be moved directly across sidewalk to the inside of the loop. Regular tee box will not be used. Sidewalk right and long is OB.

Basic idea behind OB and tees -

If you run along side of a sidewalk, parking lot, or creek it is OB.

If a sidewalk or parking lot is behind the basket, it is OB.

If you cross a creek, the water is casual.

The two longest holes have a shorter than normal tee for lower divisions.

Two of the shorter holes (except 1) have a temporary longer tee to make it harder.

Playground is OB for safety reasons.

45 players have pre-registered.

Total of 7 Junior players have pre-registered which I think is super cool.

We dodged a bullet with the rain today.  It misted just a tiny little bit during second round but mostly stayed away.  I was in the park 20-25 minutes after the last player left taking care of some things.  As I drove out of the parking lot, the rain came down.

62 players total.  Thank you to everyone that came.

Congratulations to Derrick Holt with his first PDGA win, and it was in the Open Division.

It was great to see all of the juniors that came out, very cool.

Ratings are up.
