Title: Tee Pad Open-Cliff Drive Sunday 6/28
Post by: jack on June 25, 2009, 09:46:51 AM
Completely unsanctioned for your fun.  Registration ~10, tee off ~11, come see the new pads at Cliff.  Should have most pins in the worlds placement, except #10 probably....having to make a new hole there, as #1 pad was not installed where it was supposed to go.....its all good though....$10, unsure of what the payout will be.....

Sounds like you need some strategically located trees around the #1 pad to protect it from #10.

Mentioned this event to Team Discraft...Eric and Crew said they are going to try to make it.

Met them up at Waterworks Wednesday after the first seven pads went in at Cliff...they were all super stoked that Cliff was getting pads and of the idea of the tourney on Sunday.

Again, I must ask.....where shall 17 be placed? I gotta get a 4 on that damn hole!  Can't wait to see this. Thanks to you, Jack, and all of you disc golfing peeps who have made an effort time and time again at Cliff.

personally, i'd luv the isle placement to try again...

I believe in another thread it was mentioned the island is gone, 17 long is now at the end of the penisula....still a mother for us noodle arms to 4

Yeah, I may move it to the Island for this event though.....I like it there, I just hate having to review the rules for everyone and then peeps trying to cheat on it etc.....but ok, I;ll move it to the Island for this event, and League, its a cool shot at any rate.

BTW, I played one #1 after league, and got a 3.....then went home, it looks like people are already playing there, so I may not be the first, but I think that the pads should be ready to have some feet on them, Bobby and Arturo (I'll miss you Artie!!!) said we should be fine as well to walk on them.

Hey Jack-will you consider an amateur division sunday if enough people show interest, or in Cliff fashion is this going to be an "everyone plays open" event? I hope to play regardless, but trying feebly to out-compete the Arturo's and Bobby's of the area at Cliff tends to get tiresome.....hopefully the addition of tee-pads will drive-up attendance to where an amateur division is sometime possible at league? Either way I cannot wait to get out there and throw off of those beautiful, brown babies ;D

I'll figure something out, I got asked that a lot....something for Am's will probably happen.  I envision these divisions:
Open
Masters (40+)
Women
Am's

Nothing more.

When was cliff mowed last?

Played Rosey Wed and it was nasty long.

they finished mowing it Thursday.  It gets mowed every 14 days. It will get hit 2x before worlds.  Its pretty good right now.  I will try to get #2, #5, #6 mowed Saturday after WW workday, but it depends....I am itching to play the course with pads.....its tough to drive by and know that I have not played it yet.

12, didn't lose a disc at least.  double OB for me, I think.

17, had to hit the Zone.  But, after the doubles 10 holer, I was on the island in 3, but 2 putted.  Still, that's very cool for me.

Thanks to Jack, House, and Keizer for spearheading this course from it's infancy.  Everyone who's done some work on the course can take a little credit, too.

There's still a lot of work to be done.

But, let's take a couple of days to CELEBRATE CLIFF DRIVE!!

thanks to all who played today, especially those who came from out of town.  Y'all should've stuck around for doubles.

I went OB on 12, threw from drop zone, got a 4. Got a 4 on 17 despite driving to the big tree, should've had a 3 on that one...

My round wasn't one to remember score-wise, but I had a blast with the Am card and it was my first full round on the new pads. It was great to see such a large turnout on short notice-- Jack, great idea to have this little tourney today!

What an awesome course!  Those teepads are huge; great job, KC!  We had a good time.  I haven't played with Tavish in a long time; it was great watching her tear it up on the back 9.

If there's an article in the paper, will someone post a link here please?

Tee-Pads a Cliff?  Holy Cow.  Now the homeless lady doesn't have to sleep on the ground.  :-P

Great job guys!

The homeless lady has moved her camp back to Prospect Point, which sits high atop the cliff next to #3. I took a coworker there today to show him the course, and we went up the trail past #2 to have a look off the point, and there was her stuff, all scattered about and hanging on the trees.

thanks Keizer, I'll try to get out there and move it all away in a trash bag.  She has to get teh message that is not her place.

I am also going to try to move all the baskets to the World's location:
10-Middle right
11-Long (Drew you did a great job on #16, we have to get to #11 now)
17-Peninsula
18-by the road

I also plan on working on #9 to the right to clean it up, and may do a little clean up (ceiling trim) on #7

That's good shooting, Doug, especially with the mishaps. I have had so many rounds at Cliff that made me wonder what might have been if I had only played those one or two holes differently...

Jack, you will need more than one trash bag. She's got everything but the kitchen sink up there.

Saw this last night and thought...hmmm? Sounds like near Cliff. Purposely kept my mouth shut as the wife isn;t happy when we play there after the body incident a few years ago. No comment, she's a little too Johnson County sometimes!

If you walk out about 100' or so from the pad, there's a little line of faded orange spray paint about a foot long that sticks out into the street. It is difficult to notice and since it wasn't discussed prior to play, I'm not surprised that you didn't see it. I'm glad this was brought up today, and I will see to it ASAP that it is repainted in a more noticeable fashion.

Keizer, one more thing:

We need to paint over the words "Drop Zone" on the pavement on hole #17 at Cliff.  No sense in folks getting confused there.

Gracias.

Remind her that people get shot in Johnson County, also. No one's really safe anywhere.

Don't worry about it.  I'll take care of it.  We haev to paint the entire upper course.  We need to do it with String and anchors.  We also haev to string up OB on #3 with many flags.

Also as the following needs....never mind, I'll start a new thread

I was actually serious. :)  The pin will be on the peninsula, so no drop zone is needed on #17.

Cliff Drive is set for worlds.  We can work around all the pins now and not wonder.  They were moved before league last night.  Keizer already painted this.
