Title: Frost Bite Open
Post by: GuinnessSmurf on November 17, 2009, 09:05:34 AM
When:  The first snow of the season! (see below)
          Starting at 6:30 PM.
Where: Rosedale - Down Under
What: Singles glow in the fresh snow.

$10 - includes $2 ace fund.
First 10 people get a commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt.

The first snow fall of at least 3+ inches that sticks to the ground.  I come from snow country and first snow typically meant 6-10 inches.  I'll settle for 3 as our working definition.  Look for an updated post on the day of the big snow to announce any change in details.

maybe i am the only one smirkin, but i have lived in KC(olathe) since 93 and i have seen some years pass through w/out a 3" snow at all.  however u can always count on plenty of days to get frostbit..lol
playing in the snow is pretty cool though, so count me in if/when we get the dusting u r talking about. I'll keep looking for update on snow days

Old Red Beard comes form Erie, Penn., so 3 inches is what he is hoping for (don't take that the wrong way). I'm guessing the first snow to stick will be enough. For the past 4 years we have done a "first snow" round, usually involves copious amounts of whiskey, a snow ball fight, and the fine art of disc tracking.
Guinness Smurf aka Red Beard, arrange the snow to fall on a night I am not teaching. I would hate to miss one of these. Gonna be a good time!

I'll send a letter to Anya Természetét, Eric.   You neglected to mention another first snow tradition:  falling down a lot.  It is one of my favorites.

No surprise that it takes discussions of booze and disc golf to bring you out of the wood work!
Bah!

It was 27 degrees out this morning!   Looks like we're getting close to the conditions necessary for the Frost Bite Open!  We just need some precip.

GuinnessSmurf is not Frost Biting it , no snow> I can't blame him. Who wants to play in these conditions? Not me. Anyway, he doesn't have the shirts done yet. I hope I can make it whenever it is.

I'll never forget the sound of Craig Walker's ankle snapping  :o

My understanding is that several parts of Greater Kansas City have had lots of snow.   But Rosedale is not one of those areas.   I can still see grass.  Last night was a beautiful snow though.  It would have been nice to play in it.   Lets hope we get some more snow so we can get this rolling!!!

Oh, and I have the t-shirt, E.  Just need to iron on the logos.

I'll never forget the sound of Craig Walker's ankle snapping  :o

Compound fracture of the leg, not just a simple ankle.

Please be careful when playing in adverse conditions.  We want to see you all at the Ice Bowl.

Craig was no wimp, because he did not whine, a legendary ice bowler.

Spiral tib-fib fracture..broke both bones in his lower leg.  Craig was probably too much in shock to whine.

Darn, I am going to have to miss this one!  It really stinks that I have to work on Sat. night.  If it was on Sunday night, then I could come...but...

Have fun out there everyone!  Merry Christmas to all my DG cohorts.

Thinking about coming out tonight because I'm already tired of being stuck in the house. Anybody know if the LED lights shine through the snow? Do you still need to put a ribbon on the disc to find them. Anybody played down there today, is it dangerous, tough to find plastic?

It will shine threw a little bit but I don't know about the thicker areas.  The course is a b%tch so be careful.

Five people showed up and had a blast out there tonight. Glad I went. For the most part I could see my lights shinning through the snow. I did lose a Surge short of 16's pin somewhere with a tomahawk up the hill. For me getting around in the deep snow was much easier than getting around down there if it where wet or lightly covered with snow. Good time.

Picture of the 5 participants.
