Eh, I just had to put in my $0.02!  I am looking forward to playing...will be my first time for the Ice Bowl.  I plan on having fun either way...dry or snowy.  See ya out there!

Its not so much the snow that bothers me as it is the cold. More accurately cold wind. Last years ice bowl was FREEZING! But its a good time no matter what.

If you were cold last year...that means you did not have enough special cider in ya!

2 Years ago, it was like mid 40's but mud up to your knees...

Trust me...snow is better!

When registering at DGW, to avoid a 3% bank card fee, please pay with a check or cash. Pre-registering is very helpful, not only for the people who will be working the tournament, but players can avoid standing in line. You can download a registration form here: http://www.kcfdc.org/docs/kcib10.pdf

If you pre-register, all you have to do is to check in and get your scorecard, and if they weren't available when you signed up,  your disc and/or mini set. We're getting more Ice Bowl discs from Innova around 1 p.m. on Monday.

I want to quash a couple of rumors that have been circulating about Ice Bowl.

1. This tournament is open to all players, regardless of KCFDC membership. Actually, the only tournament that requires KCFDC membership is the KCFDC Championships.

2. You can use whatever discs you want at Ice Bowl. This is NOT like the Ace Race, which is the only tournament I know of that requires you to use the discs that are given to you when registering.

So far, we have these people who have signed up:

David   Valdiviez
David   Eaton
Miles   McKee
Andre   Labruyere
CJ   Snapp
Greg   Curtain
Rodney   Beagle
Kent   Turpin
Ben   Delp
Steve   Harris
Sean   Elliott
David    Koenig
Luke   Longeor
Chris   Komsthoeft
Aaron   Gabrielese
Brad   Lenheim
Todd   Andrews
Lance   Dwyer
Colby   Mathews
Connor   Mitts
Tyler   Leahy
Shawn   Stanton
Van   Spratford
Frank Boyd
Jeff   Dyer
Mike   Keizer
Becky   Stebbins
John   Nichols
Matt   Jarvis
Ben    Gardner

By the way, my prediction for Ice Bowl, made about a month ago, was temperature near 60°. Hey, we can't cancel this event because of the weather, so if it's too warm, we're going to have gut it out.

Who's bringing chili?

Please get with me with any questions.

Rick

I think Lance is, or at least we mentioned it at last month's meeting.  We'll try to get all that squared away.

I'm not sure I fully understand... play 18 holes on either up top or down under and then the final 9 and whoever has the best scores wins... is that correct? (or is it separated by course choice?) Maybe I do understand and it just doesn't make sense to me, so if someone could clarify that would be great.

There are now 105 people pre-registered. We still encourage pre-registrations at Disc Golf World. We're usually here after our posted closing times of 4:30 on weekdays. Also, will be here until at least 5:30 on Saturday.

If you're a photographically-enabled, we need some photos for Ice Bowl...both for KCK Parks department and for posting at icebowlhq.com. High res photos preferred.

Also looking for volunteers to write some names on scoreboard cards tomorrow at DGW.

Thanks,

Rick

That's warmer than last year.  It's also supposed to be sunny, which is a nice change.

Weather was great today, but the mud not so much. Took my nephew out for his second round ever and he shot a 16 over, which I am very stoked about. Wasn't so stoked about not being able to turn in my scorecard and not being able to play the second round. I think next year I'm just going to pay and get my disc, and skip playing.

I agree, we haven't played the second round the last few years, people are still on the course at 3pm

Maybe we need to go to two courses next year?
Just saying.....

Today was my first Ice Bowl, only been playing since last spring.
I had a blast.
Congrats to the all the organizers on raising so much cash for the Bishop Sullivan Center.
This is truly a great charity event!

All you chilly cookers...well played sirs.
One complaint though, 35 degrees...where was the Ice?
Ha!

I had a blast out there today.  The weather was great...warm and sunny with no wind.  It was a little crowded.

Ghostrider and Colby, thanks for a great first round.  Hope you did well the second round as well.

Rick and the other organizers, I think you put on one heck of a tourney.  Kudos to making it work and keeping everything flowing pretty smooth.  Thanks for the great day.

Get there early and go play DU.  We flew through it and started down there about 9:00.  At times we would not see any other groups in front or behind. Maybe the guys behind were really slow and backing things up, but DU is the way to go.  No wind and the ground stays frozen longer becuase of all the shade.

I agree.  We got there at 10am.  We played DU and had finished by 12:30 with some waiting each hole.
Plus it wasn't muddy.

We have 2 courses, Down Under and up top.....this is a "competition LIGHT"  event, heavy on the fun of the Ice Bowl, and disc golf.  If you really can't stand your group for the entire 3-4 hour round, then you might want to reconsider who you play disc golf with......

Had a great time, met some new people, and enjoyed it all!

Even though my chili didn't win! >:(

Thanks again for everyone who supported Ice Bowl and put up with the barely controlled chaos that seems to be a hallmark of the KC Ice Bowl the last few years. I don't think enough people knew that playing Down Under was an option. After sorting through the paperwork and counting the moolah, I hope to have a full report posted out here in a day or two. I  pretty sure we raised a very nice stash of cash for Bishop Sullivan Center.

Getting people out for round 2 was done accomplished very smoothly. I apologize to those who didn't get to play the second round. We've begun to formulate plans to make this less likely to happen last year.

Here's a curious weather fact I discovered when checking the range of temperatures yesterday (22° to 39°): exactly one year ago on January 31, 2009, the temp topped out at 72°. That's an Ice Bowl I can live with any time!

After posting this, the accounting phase begins and will report on our charitable donations when that is done. Below is a list of the people who made the Kansas City Ice Bowl happen by buying a package or contributing in some other way. It's a long list that contains 402 names. If you see mistakes or missing names, let me know. (We had to make some educated guesses with some of the handwriting!) We would love to reach 400 people for Ice Bowl 2010. Don't be a wimp and be part of Ice Bowl 2010 in Kansas City...a mere $15 will not only get you a disc and mini-set, but will remove you from the wimp list

I'll follow in another post with some scores. For the record, Cecil Cameron is the 2010 KC Ice Bowl Champion.

Unless I'm Dylan Parker I think you might have missed me.  I was the guy running the mini golf and beer thing.

I need to double check the numbers and make sure that those who paid for dues and bag tags are accounted for, but the donation should be right around $5000...the biggest ever! Thank you KC Disc Golfers.

First things first, the second place chili was incredible. I ate three bowls of it. You remember, the tall aluminum pot on the ground everyone was talking about. Super smoky yet spicy flavor. Wow!

Great job to Rick, Dick, Tracy, Billy, and Kelly, (for the heckling) plus everyone else who made the biggest Ice Bowl to date a success!
However some of the spirit of Ice Bowl seems to have been lost in the grandeur of KC disc golf(insert sarcasm). Yes, you need to plan to play your round when there are 400+players on the courses in one day! It is very likely it will take some time, so like Jack said, play it with people you like. ;)

The irony is killing me. WE have this amazing club and community that makes these great events happen, and we are TOO successful at it. Did somebody say MOST FUN WINS! My rant is over ;D

This was one of the best Ice Bowls for me because of all the familiar faces I saw. We all came out of the woodwork to stand around in the January sun to raise some dough and enjoy our community! Great job everybody!

I had a great time at Ice Bowl. I thought it went real smooth. I did hear a troubling report of some weenee turning in a score for the first round when he didn't even play the first round. That's almost as
weak as me using 51 mulligans.

As a two Ice bowl attendee this year so far though, I think it would be a good idea to call out the wimps that didn't show.

I'll start the list with.....

Dan Coffman
Dirk Hacker
Caleb Coffman

I know some scorecards were lost in the shuffle, but these 258 people played at least 18 holes on Sunday. Our winner, using no mulligans, was Cecil Cameron. Aces were recorded by Jeff Hoglund, David Valdiviez, and Marshal Wolfe. Also, I don't know what holes they got:

Tony Todd shot a 61 the first round but no second round.

Aces were recorded by Jeff Hoglund, David Valdiviez, and now, I can't remember. Help me someone. Also, I don't know what holes they got:
Nick Winkelbauer #13 or #14 DU in the second round?

So that's what we heard while we were on #8 down there....  We were all pretty sure it was an ace from the sound of things.

Whereas Mr Tank was indeed at the Ice Bowl and generously donated discs to the CTP prize table, he has not (yet) purchased a package, which Jack correctly infers is the way to get on the list.

Others  (wimps?) not in attendance.

Arturo Villarreal (yes,he was in the town that day)

Todd Henry (2000 and 2002 Ice Bowl Champion

I see it like this.  I you are a guy that cashes in our leagues, or you will soon be cashing in our leagues, then you  need to give back to a good cause.  This is THE one event that we can use to promote our sport in a positive way.  This event has great reach and scope for public relations.  All these other events that we have, really do not mean much and hold much weight to the general public.

The Ice Bowl is always a blast.  I would like to know if the Ice Bowl has ever been on a Saturday?  I would sure like it to fall on a Saturday.  Then maybe even do a glow round dubs or just continue the great festivities a little longer.

John

John, that's not a bad idea.  We need some more people to step up and run those types of things, since it's unfair to ask Rick to run an event for 400 people on Sunday and do something on Saturday.

Ditto on that. Down Under for the first round or an earlier start is essential. My group came in too late from the first round. I was lucky I grabbed a beer and bowl of chili when I got to #10 or would have missed out completely. I was able to play the second round because someone that made it to the card I would have been on didn't show up.

But, it's all for a good cause and I had a great time. Thanks Rick, Billy, Dick, Tracy, Ed and everyone else that helped out this year. Controlled chaos at its finest!

Rick
I do believe I predicted around 400 this year when I was at DGW to sign up for the Ice Bowl.
My prediction for next year???
525 !!!!
If we pushed it really hard like we did when we had The Worlds Biggest DG Weekend the year we won the 9 baskets we could possibly get 700.

did you get a package though......

we are trying to guilt those that did not support the event Ken, not those that drank and fell on their "broken" hand..... ;D

Whereas Mr Tank was indeed at the Ice Bowl and generously donated discs to the CTP prize table, he has not (yet) purchased a package, which Jack correctly infers is the way to get on the list.

Others  (wimps?) not in attendance.

Brad Merys (2006 Ice Bowl Champion)

I did however purchase two Ice bowl packages in '09...so maybe I'm not a wimp AND a whiner?
