I did fail to mention...

Once you are in a flight you are playing for a TROPHY in your respective flight.  So if after Saturday you are in Flight B you can win a trophy in that flight!

So there has been some discussion about the CC running into the Race weekend.   After talking with a few people I have decided that we are just going to continue as planned.  I would HIGHLY advise giving your self plenty of time to get to WYCO in the morning.   We are not starting until 10 am so if you leave at 8 I'm sure you will make it.   If you are stuck in traffic please call me and let me know you are coming.  This is the CC and it is on Saturday so if I get those types of calls I will wait an additional 15-20 minutes before we start.   But if you do not call me don't expect that to happen.   Here are some of your alt routes.

Coming from the South up 435 N - Cut over either K-10 or K-32 and take that West to K-7.  Take K-7 North and turn right on RiverView.  Right after I-70 hwy.

I-70 East may be tricky but if you give yourself plenty of time you should be able to stay in the Left Lane and get past 110th (which may be blocked off this weekend) and travel up to k-7 and take a right then your first right (Riverview)

If you CAN get off on 110th st. and take a LEFT then go to Riverview and take a Right and that also will take you into the park.

PLEASE GIVE YOUR SELF PLENTY OF TIME TO GET THERE.   MY NUMBER IS 913-206-7157.    If you can not make it by 9:30am just let me know you are going to be there and when and I will work with you.  We WILL NOT START ANY LATER THAN 10:20am

Sorry for the inconvenience.  Next year we will not only look at the Chiefs schedule but the Racing one too.

I think you meant, I-70 from the East. I would not try to get off at 110th Street from I-70. That's where the major traffic will be. I would recommend using I-435 south of I-70 and getting off at K-32 and head west. You can take it all the way to K-7 then head north or go north in Edwardsville on Edwardsville Drive all the way to Riverview then go west to the park.

Kevin is right, chances are the police will not let you go left at 110th from I-70 W as the traffic coming in from the I-70 E will be taking up the other lanes.

7Hi. is the usual route people from the South and West take to get to the track too so no matter how you get to Wyco its gonna be dicey.
If coming from 435 North get off on Leavenworth Road and turn left at 123rd street.
Turn right at Parallel.
Turn left at N 126th Street. Takes you into the park

If coming from the South on 7Hi you could get off on Kansas Ave. and Head East. Pun intended.
Turn left at N 122nd St.
Turn left at Riverview
That way your not dealing with the traffic by I-70.

If coming from I-70 East you could take 78th Street exit. Go right or South at the bottom of the ramp.
Go all the way to Leavenworth Road.
Turn left or West.
Turn left on 123rd Steet.
Turn right at Parallel
Turn left at N 126th Street

OR deal with the traffic!!

This may seem like alot of crap but you'll thank me.

Don't forget there will be Ren Fest traffic to deal with too.

Jeez... gloom and doom. It won't be that bad I don't think. But, if you are coming from the KCMO side and want to avoid race and RenFest traffic completely here is what you do....

Get off at I-70 and 57th Street and go south less than a block to K-32/Kaw Drive (it's right there running parallel to I-70)
Go west (right) on Kaw Drive all the way to 121st street. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=N+57+St%2FN+57th+St&daddr=S+121+St%2F121st+St&geocode=Fa-uVAIdINha-g%3BFZ8mVAId4opY-g&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=14&sll=39.074377,-94.851236&sspn=0.041712,0.090895&ie=UTF8&ll=39.080041,-94.850378&spn=0.041709,0.090895&z=14)That's the road you would use to go to Camp Naish BSA camp. It'll be about 9 miles from 57th to 121st.
Then take 121st to your first left as it turns into 122nd and takes you to Riverview.
Left on Riverview takes you directly to the entrance of the park at #2 tee. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Riverview+Ave&daddr=Kansas+32+%26+121st+St,+Bonner+Springs,+KS+66012&geocode=FYumVAIdKHZY-g%3BFY8VVAId2IVY-ilLr5byz4_AhzE3v56E3PpG_A&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=14&sll=39.092432,-94.859648&sspn=0.041701,0.090895&ie=UTF8&ll=39.08697,-94.85467&spn=0.041705,0.090895&z=14)

Of course, if you are coming from the south down I-435 just get off at K-32 and use the same route west. And if coming down K-7 from the south you can get off at K-32 and go east to 121st and take this back way in too. And, from the north, take I-635 south to I-70 west to the 57th Street exit. Country roads take me home..... to WyCo.

You will have much of the roadway to yourself using this route. It's a nice leisurely drive that shouldn't have much traffic. Speeds will range from 45 to 55 most of the way except for the actual back roads at 121st. Watch your speed in Edwardsville.

If you have not already Kevin would you kindly post these directions on the HOMEPAGE for people who don't read the Forum.   Just put WARNING Give yourself plenty of time to get to WYCO on Saturday or something with those directions?   I would much appreciate that.

Easier said than done. The link from the image you sent directs one to the image itself for printing. I have nowhere else convenient to post these links and text without writing some HTML that I don't want to mess with. Let's just hope people are smarter than we seem to be giving them credit for.

What about start a topic with JUST the info on how to get around traffic and make it non reply and then create a link under the photo to that?   Or just assume they are intelligent :)

Jeez... gloom and doom. It won't be that bad I don't think.

Ditto dat!

Just plan to get out to Wyco early.  You are going to want to have time to investigate #2 (new OB and pin), #9 (new tighter Island fairway OB) , #11 (tighter OB and Mando), #13 (OB w/island green at long pin) and #14 (new dam(n) pin).  You may be sorry if you don't check those out prior to the round.

I do hope the additional   >:( OB is marked well enough to be clearly visible from the tee boxes. Walking five holes to try to determine where to land before playing thirty six in a day isn't good on an ole mans hips.

The added OB will be set up at PC Friday night before dark, so you might want to check it out before the round Saturday too. It's marked with little yellow tags on every one.  ???

Did anyone take pictures and send them to the WyCo Parks and Rec or let the needed powers know that we are not the damaging party?  It should fall on the scouts to repair the damaged land....be a good lesson for them as well.

The scouts just used the place as a parking lot with the parks department's blessing. At this point I'm not blaming the scouts. They had an event at Camp Naish with an attendance approaching 11,000. They weren't allowing any private vehicles in the camp and were shuttling people from the "parking lot" at WyCo. I suspect the parks department made some money off of the use of our course as a parking lot and the scouts were just doing what they needed to do, park vehicles where they were told to park.

I think the fact that KCK Parks gave our club two days notice that our course would be used for this event and then didn't even say how the land would be used speaks volumes about how they feel about disc golf in their parks. I assumed it would be some sort of camping event, but instead it was a big parking lot.

110th st DOES NOT GO THROUGH TO i-70 AT ALL.  DO NOT ATTEMPT .

They are doing construction and have ripped that portion of the road up.

The BEST way into and out of the park is the following..

From 435 -  Take K-32 West (just South of I-70) on 435.

Take that to 4th street.  Take a right (north)  Follow that road all the way until you can no longer go forward.  This is the Edwardsville Rd. that Kevin spoke of in the directions before.   Though off of K-32 it is 4th street.  It is a stop light and very easy to find.  There will be a road closed sign but it will go through to riverview.   No farther than that.  So this is the best way because you can not get lost this way.   When you come to a complete stop at the construction T take a left (west).   This is Riverview and will dump you right into the park.

From K-7 - Take K-32 East.  Then take a Left on 4th street and follow the same directions.

When you leave the park I suggest going out the same way.   When you get to K-32 take a right and go to k-7 and take that straight to Olathe.

I drove this last night to make sure these were solid and I think if you plan on getting there with no troubles this is the way to go.   No on will be on this road because it does not connect to I-70 with the construction.  NO RACE TRAFFIC GUARANTEED.

Did you try 121st? It's hard to get lost that way too but the road is less than ideal. I think my directions are more fun. Live a little.

121st is ok.   Right now 4th street (Edwardsville Dr) Ends where you need to take a Left.   So you can't miss your turn is all.

Everyone, Mr. Weatherhore.....his "live update" was posted under a different topic heading..

-----"LIVE UPDATE(provided by neckbeard's new iPhone go buy one today they are sweet)
I just Hummel'd about 20 minutes ago.first card just in- no scores yet. Howling winds."------------

..and he had "a mountain to over come" when getting dominated by Tony D. who played very well.  Sore losers never win and should consider starting a "DNF Club" with the Commish!!!

P.S. - please discuss further scoring matters with Dick and/or Rick for detailed explanation of a DNF or "Hey man, just give me 7's for the rest of the holes" when there were several holes that other players scored 12's and upwards on......

P.S.S. (P.iss S.tain S.pencer) -Thanks for being an active club member and helping run the tourney today, it really made things run smoothly!!

Sorry....many typos, but no sleep, score checking at wyco (12's on holes, really?) and many adult beverages make for long days.

Atleast it was a good slip....how about Van "Can kick some azz at score checking" Spratford

Playing with tony isn't bad, you just gotta look at it like your watching football and the wife keeps asking you questions. Just keep nodding your head and hope they go away.

He had more of a problem trying to putt through pigpens dust cloud as he kept wandering around like it was beer league.

Big thanks to the 2 people who picked up my totally cherry Z-Buzz and champ firebird that my pissed off ass left in the middle of the fairway at wyco and returned them. Good karma for you.

Thanks to dick too for not returning that firebird until after the 2nd round, that way i have something to blame that garbage dump of a round on.

Your in that flight because you do have a chance to win....only 3 strokes out with 2 rounds to go....plenty of time!  Flights are determined by score and when good players shoot poorly, this is what you get.

Leo held on for a one stroke victory. First repeat champ since 2003 (Laron Harris)

Great day for disc golf, great tourney. Played with some great guys today even though none of us shot as well as we are capable of.

Thanks to all that made it happen.

Thank you to everyone who PAID their Dues and played in the Club Championships.   For the people who did not want to renew, sorry you didn't have a chance to play in the CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.    Next time I would suggest renewing.   I will happily take your $20 dollars and return it to the club within a reasonable amount of time.

Also I have said once and will say many times after.  If you don't like the way I run things.   Don't play in them.

Congrats to Leo for having a great year again and taking home the trophy.

Really dont see how it would have hurt anyone to let myself and Steve Hoestetlor sp? play one round with Ted Keith this Morning! Really ,Not playing for tags ,wouldnt have effected anyones place in the tourney. But was told rudley no thats the ruling!WTF Same TD that started 10 minutes earlier last year then they said and cost 4 people strokes!

Not Cool Billy, this is the KCFDC Club Championships for CURRENT MEMBERS....play casually if you wish, but DO NOT dog on the people that pay for the right to be members and have the chance to play in this event.  If we let you play for free, then why shouldn't this be an option for the entire public?  It's NOT, it's for people who pay thier money to be part of a club!  Sorry Billy, nothing personal....but it was the right call on Dick's part.  Also...why is it so hard for people to be ON TIME...leave earlier, step away from the bar and hit the course early to socialize with other golfers.

Or becuase they have failed, and it takes the continuity of the people that have been behind the scenes doing things for years to get the right ears to make it happen.

Glover you speak a mean game, but the reality is that you have attended a few work days and done a couple of clinics.  It is all good that you think that you are the storied person that brings years of experience, but after sitting in meetings and board presentations, and fund raising events, and community development meetings over the last decade, you have not been by my side.

Same goes with the other recent club that tried to start here, its tough to pick leaders and even tougher to get people to work towards one common goal.  Multiple clubs in this area would not be a bad thing I think, it would be that they would have to work together, and be united with an apporach.  The chances of that happening though with multiple clubs in this area is extremely small based on the our pouring of support that we see at this club's elections in the years past.

The best way it appears to get people to get involved typically requires alcohol as a lubricant to even entice you to attend a meeting.

Now, do not get me wrong, I know that there are a lot of great people that do great things in the disc golf community here locally.  I have seen it, and I love it.  But that dedication to be ran over the course of a year or 2 of consistent behavior and sacrifices does not happen with most.

Prove me wrong this year, lest we have over 100 at the Club Meeting this year.

We will have new by-laws to adopt, and a new way of organizing our group.

Changes maybe a better solution than succession from the group.

Want something done different, run for a voice to be elected to make those changes.  You too then be considered the KCFDC that "owns" this site...(what a silly comment......)

Thanks Billy...Its tough to apologize to Dick, I have to do it, and I then cry myself to sleep!

Looks like the Club Championships went well, I am sorry that I had to miss it.  Great weather for golf, as I was putting in the infield, but Satureday was WINDY as all get out!

Leo-WOW, congrats man!  Way to stay on focus and keep it live all 4 rounds, and a repeat at that.  Truly great golf to make that happen here!

All that just because I noticed no other banter about his statement??

The way people get treated does affect their  decisions about the club.
If you felt you needed me by your side. Your way of showing it is not inspiring.
I have other things in life besides disc golf to concern myself with that are more important.
Besides, I'm not the one always talking about all the great things I've done for disc golf in Kansas City.
You don't need me.
Title: Re: 2010 Club Championships - Oct. 2nd - 3rd

blah blah blah......
I have other things in life besides disc golf to concern myself with that are more important.

My point exactly, you have to have dedication to make anything work.  It takes a team of people to help with this support.  Putting together a group, or committee with people that do not make that time availablae is a recipe for failure.

Blah blah blah
You don't need me.

Quite the contrary.  We need everyone, even you Glover.  It takes our entire disc golf community to build us, not just one.  I have never done anything by myself.  It has taken a team to make things work.  By having an attitude that you are not needed is not the stance I am working on getting out there.

I just think form time to time, you give an impression of knowledge that I disagree with.  It doesn't mean I don't need you, it just means I disagree with you.  Common practice for me to disagree is not out of the normal.  I do often change my mind though when a better argument or stance comes that changes my opinion.

So take my tongue in cheek comments that you may see as an attack, as common banter in a chat room that some may interpret otherwise, but know that the ultimate goal is for us to have the best disc golf in the world.  We are pretty close, and its because of you reading this that makes it happen.  Not from me or Glover! ;D

I don't think that's the case.  There's always lots of posturing by people.  However, the actual work is done by a very small, core group.  When someone comes to me with something that says "here's my club, here's it's agenda,"  I'll probably listen then.  Otherwise, it's just idle talk.

Title: Re: 2010 Club Championships - Oct. 2nd - 3rd
Post by: dickthediscparker on October 04, 2010, 01:31:29 PM
I would almost consider 13 a Par 5.   Even in the Kan U Wyco the pro division ALONE scored a combined 6.5 on that hole.  And there were no "astronomical" scores in that either.  Though I understand why you call it a 4.
Title: Re: 2010 Club Championships - Oct. 2nd - 3rd
Post by: coops on October 04, 2010, 02:21:27 PM
I would've thought that one was definitely a par 5. It has length and big trouble OB off the tee, the second shot, and the third shot and on top of all that you still have to make your putt.
Title: Re: 2010 Club Championships - Oct. 2nd - 3rd
Post by: Timko on October 04, 2010, 02:24:10 PM
I told Rick at Olathe the par was 61, but I counted #13 as a 5 as well.

However, I had #3 marked as a par 4 and #10 as a 3.  #10 is a 4 for sure.  I guess you could get inside 40' with a big flex shot or a huge roller.
