Title: Possible KC Tournament Sponsor?
Post by: TPalmer on August 29, 2011, 10:43:21 AM
I've been into that outdoor equipment store Backwoods at 135th and Metcalf a couple times over the last few months.  There is a guy that works there whom I struck up a conversation with.  He mentioned that he plays disc golf and had met with Keen regarding their disc golf shoe (Milo 2) and carrying it in the shop.

Anyway, I was in there this past weekend and one of the managers/sales associates said that they were going to have a meeting this week with headquarters (Austin, TX) to determine what role disc golf was gonna play moving forward.

I thought this might be a possible sponsorship opportunity for next years 30th KCWO.  Just thought I would make the powers that be aware.

love keen but the soles have not held up.  If Keen just had a beefer sole like a Vibram mode.  Keen is the most comfortable shoe but they need a better sole that has one solid piece of rubber.  Some models have spots where there is a harder sole and then softer exposed parts that make great open softer spots  for thorns.

Try these over the Milo II.....the sole issues are fixed so far...I've had a pair for 3 weeks now and about 25 rounds and they rock!

My mid-top Keens have done very well. If they make the DeLa in a mid-top. maybe I'll look at them. I doubt I'll buy a pair of low-top disc golf shoes ever again.

Tank and Billy have a pair of the DeLa's, and 5 or 6 rounds in, the sole on the heal is already coming apart.  Seen it fer myself  :o

I'm liking these Oboz Sawtooth's I recently bought.  Small company.  Good people.  Oboz stands for "Outside Bozeman"....Montana that is.  Check them out!

I'm kinda partial to my Ecco's I've been wearing this year.  Lord knows how many rounds, and feels like I'm walking on a waterproof cushion of air!  8)

Just replaced my Merrell Chameleon IIIs, which fell a part after about 3-4 months, with a pair of  these (Keen Targhee II). I have about 15-20 rounds in them and they are looking good, but I'll let you know in the next few months.

I have had a pair of Keen Newport sandals for 4+ years and hiked 100s of miles in them. I drag my heals and finally wore the outside edge of the souls down too much.  Now they are my "yard" shoes.

Keen has a good name and will stand behind them, just send an email to their warranty department.

BTW, Merrell stood behind my Chameleons, but I am going to use those for just hiking. I think disc golf is too tough on them (at least with my footwork).

I switched from merrells, their VIBRAM soles came off after 3 months. yeah, they are more than happy to stand behind them...and send you a new pair of shoes that last...surprise! 3 months. understandably they don't replace the replacment shoes, but they did offer me an intenet coupon for 20% off any further plooking I'd be into.
if keen wants to sponsor disc golf the least we could do is recommend to them which of their shoes actually stand up.

I am on my 2nd pair of Northface Hedgehogs. The first pair lasted 13 months with very heavy year-round disc golf usage. They also fit way better than keens if you have wide feet. I owned a pair of keen targhees II's that started falling apart after 6 or so months and weren't nearly as comfy-needless to say I was disappointed and will not go back to Keen(although this was only one model the soles were crap and fell apart QUICK, the stitching came apart in multiple places, etc.). I am 6 months into my 2nd pair of Hedgehogs and they are holding up great once again.
