Title: Big Blue Pin Placements
Post by: Utz on August 22, 2012, 04:17:04 PM
Jack, or whom it may concern...

Can we get baskets back into the Big Blue course setup? Like uh, 'borrow' from the junior course so we can have a complete Big Blue setup again? I mean, I like little blue, and I think we should keep it forever and ever... But I would like to see Big Blue put back in so we can play the most bad ass course in KC again!

If I can help, I will. Let me know how we can get this done!

I'll work on getting some "Red Baskets" for the little course out there, and move the big ones back.

Jack are the long pins all out there?

I'm hoping to have league out there as normal tomorrow, hopefully a start time between 4:00 and 5:00. Is anyone interested in playing the long course once?

Problem is I have no KC cash to give out either...if we need to make it a non KCFDC mini we can.

If its non KCFDC you don't have access to the ace fund, but you can pay out all of the money collected.

Haha short of a miracle I doubt we will have an ace on big blue.

no where near the thread this past weekend (kinda like my game at Old Settlers, no where near the basket....ok, maybe near the basket, but then right of it, then left of it, then off the chastity belt.....)

Sorry,

I had asked for the Red baskets to be moved to the "inner course" I didn't follow up with that.  I am going to try tonight to get out to Cliff to move the baskets for round 1 configuration...

Sorry, all my time on the computer this weekend was driven towards fantasy football....

Thanks Jack! just keep us posted on Big Blue. Cant wait to get back in action. now that its not 1,000 degrees out playing the long course sounds fun again.

cheers~

no worries, in all honesty, I RARELY look at a computer during the weekend unless it is fantasy football driven, or I am looking at a map.  My forum time is spent in the form of my equivalent smokers time in my mind.  I figure if I still smoked, I would be not doing work during that time, so time in a chat room makes up for it!

So rule of thumb is that if you need something from me during the weekend, try texting or calling me!

I know yesterday was Labor day but only 4 of us showed up for baby blue in what was an unofficial league night.  Good luck in getting people out on the bomber course, but count me in Utz.

I had planned on playing normal BV league yesterday, since it was a holiday and I didn't have to go to work. But when I read that the big course would be played, going to work actually sounded like more fun.

Good luck in getting people out on the bomber course...

Hence the reason "BV Lite" was installed. Not only is it shorter, it is a much better course overall. Still plenty of bomber holes, but I like it without holes like orginal 3, 8, 17, and 18, which just seem long for the sake of being long instead of any other good reason. And the time it takes to play the big course is another negative, IMO.

We played Baby Blue... we didn't have a choice.

Yeah, Jake is old and couldn't fathom playin the big course...

Oh and the fact that baskets were missing

Change your name to Mike Cryzer.. Wait I'm an admin, I can make that happen... ô¿ô

Its not like you play the holes as Par 3's... I love it. It tests your golf game, makes you take each shot very seriously. I'm not even a bomber and I enjoy it. Long distance with incredibly difficult greens. very fun.

Yeah the time is upped to play the course but I think its worth it.

This is why I think we should have both courses available at the same time. That we we can mix and match or go full on Big Blue!

Well, it sounded like Big Blue was gonna be played, anyway. I should have known Jack would be too busy to move baskets out there.  ;D
And Utz, whatever, the only thing Big Blue tests is how long you're willing to put up with having to throw 2 or 3 drives on every hole. I'm trying to get F'ed up and chill at league, not trying be serious and "test" stuff. And definitely not trying to get worn out playing 12,000' of disc golf over 4hrs.

So...are the BB baskets in yet?  BTW, BB #18 is perhaps the most challenging par 5 I've played..it keeps me coming back for more.

Dont know if the Big Blue setup is actually in right now. There was a tourney there a few weeks ago, and it was played short. Maybe Jack can weigh in for us?

We had the baskets in the ground for the Big Blue as well as the inner course that is the Short version, so it should be able to be played .....

Hey! I think our problems may just be solved. Ed McMahon. Think I just won a million bucks. Yeah, Irwin M. Fletcher you choose. Woo-wee! Oh, boy, I lost. Yeah. Sorry.

All baskets are in all locations so you can choose to play whatever format you would like to at the Blue Valley Disc Golf Mecca.

no, there are 4 that need to be moved:
#1
#8
#9
#18

I think that it should get done within the next week.

I moved #9 to it's short setting as well as #18. I plan on moving #4 to long #7 and #6 to its short placement tomorrow. Also, #17 will be getting a replacement short setting.

#5 long. Let's make it happen before KCWO 2015
Title: Re: Big Blue Pin Placements
Post by: BenC on July 17, 2014, 08:43:49 AM
It could happen, but Doug needs more help on the current configuration before more stuff goes in.  The problem is; that area is not on the mowing contract.  After we get it cleaned up and a sleeve put in who is going to keep it cut down and cleaned up?  There is already too much course for the amount of volunteers.
Title: Re: Big Blue Pin Placements
Post by: jhinck2 on July 17, 2014, 08:57:33 AM
I was unable to make this last workday due to prior commitments, but I was there for the one before that and no one showed up.  As I said before, it doesn't need to be a year long position.  It doesn't need to be in the mowing contract.  All we need is a pin placement back there (it may still be there and we just can't see it?) and I'll personally do all the mowing back there in preparation for the wide open (or any other tournament for which that pin is requested).  I know it's a pain in the rear to get back there with commercial equipment.  Hole 5 has just become sort of a dull hole that nearly every pro is going to birdie in its current placement.  I think the long placement would be a much harder shot for righty and lefty alike.
Title: Re: Big Blue Pin Placements
Post by: BenC on July 17, 2014, 01:23:05 PM
I think it would be great to have another setting there.  At the same time I see all the work that needs to be done on the current settings.  We could have a little meeting with Doug and Jim Kreeger to see if it is a possibility and, if so, the time frame.
Title: Re: Big Blue Pin Placements
Post by: showmeDoug on July 17, 2014, 01:25:00 PM
Something could be done for a long placement for #5, but it would probably be next year. But, we could put in an additional setting for #11, #16, and #17 right now.

Hey Jack, what is your opinion on some new pin settings. I was thinking short/alternate placements for 2, 14, 17 and long placements for 15, and 16. I've talked to Jim and he is on board.

Title: Re: Big Blue Pin Placements
Post by: showmeDoug on February 12, 2015, 04:54:11 PM
Oh yeah. I've been out the last few days picking up trash and pulling downed branches from the course. If we had a few more hands we could de-trash the rest of the course quickly. I know picking up trash isn't the most fun thing to do - but that is what the course needs right now. I'm talking with P&R about doing some larger projects for us (picking up decade old brush piles, backfilling teepads, taking out tree stumps, and tree trimming). If there is interest in going out there this Saturday for a few hours I would be available.

Since there are no red baskets out at Blue Valley right now I took the opportunity to move the course to the alternate layout. What that means is - don't use the original/long pads on #4, #10, #11 and #13, instead use the alternate pads.
1. middle par 4
2. short par 3
3. alternate par 3
4. middle par 3
5. short par 3
6. long left par 4
7. short par 4
8. short par 3
9. alternate par 3
10. alternate par 3
11. alternate par 3

13. alternate par 3
14. long par 3
15. short par 3
16. short par 3
17. middle par 3
18. middle par 4
It is set up at as a par 59, but it is very short (for Blue Valley).

Is this still the current set up? Is there anything else I need to know? Are all the "alternates" easy to understand and identified at all on the course?

I have a friend coming in town from Denver this weekend and he wants a crack at Blue Valley so I just want to make sure I know what the hell I'm doing out there. I have only been out there once for the 2015 KCWO and we played an alternate set up mixing the normal and Junior courses so my knowledge of the course is limited. (besides watching the videos of the pros)

Any help or explanations would be greatly appreciated!
