So, I think we're still confused about the divisions.

There is no such thing as Mens Pro Open.. :D

Here's a pdf that helps explain: Courtesy of the PDGA (http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/PlayersDivisionGrid_0.pdf)

How many registrants per division are there so far?
What sort of player's pack are you considering?

There are not a lot of pre-registered players, but i expect several to register the day of the event.  The players package will be a voucher of some type.

Do not forget about Daylight savings that day as we ill start at 9am sharp, meeting at Blue Valley for the first round and continue onto Cliff Drive to play the second round.

More in Open than are currently registered for the Wichita tournament? With VPO going on I bet that field will get thinned a bit.

It's is up to the player when they put their 2013 tag on the line. You can still play for your 2012 tag and hold your 2013 til next year without being called a wuss... BUT in January it's on.

I think last year or in 2010.  He got to the point where he was getting aces left handed in FL, just to irritate the locals down there with his aces as he did here.  I believe that he has since returned to rightie, but does throw leftie if needed.  I think it was a torn rotator cuff that made him start to do this....

Every single one of you should be playing open. There is nothing at stake here. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. Your game will only get better if you play above your present level. This isn't a sanctioned event, the cost isn't that much more, so kick yourself in the berries and move up. You may lose, hell you WILL lose, but losing in open is better than winning in advanced or intermediate. Do you really want to win a free buzz or boss? If you just want plastic, sh1t, I will give you some of mine. I've got plenty of unused, tournament win plastic I will give you. If ANY of you are planning on playing in AM worlds next year, you need to play OPEN NOW, to get the experience you will need to be successful. This is a good chance to play at a higher level.

Well I have heard this speech before: play with better and you get better. I sorta agree but I truly think what makes you better is playin for a lotta years and  tournaments. Don't get me wrong, when I'm playin league I don't mind being on a card with Cooper or Guthrie to see some new routes, hear some great dg stories, or get my questions answered, but when its a tourney I am lookin to stay in my skill level. Especially when there are so many tourneys in town to pick from. I'm gonna have to have a dg budget next year so I can play the ones I like(and I don't even travel to play). I know yall get lonely in open sometimes but I myself enjoy a nice buzz and getting to play on the cheap in rec/int divisions. Often these have the most people anyway. I got three years till I can play masters and that's when Ill be seasoned enough to play with the big dogs. So dont wear you arm out Loomis, Ill see ya in in 3 years.

If you're playing the tournament to win, you won't be focusing on playing the best game you can, but playing just enough to beat the next guy. And that is exactly how you'll play tournaments until you learn that you're supposed to be playing "the course." But, if you just want to play to beat "the guy," then play UP, that way you get pushed to get better. You work harder. You season faster. It increases the stress, and that will make you a better player. Because what isn't taught to you in INT/REC and to some degree ADV, is how to beat the stress of the game.
This tournament is a good training experience for anyone wanting to know more about competition. You want to be successful in PDGA AM events? Then play PRO whenever you can in NON-sanctioned events. Period.

Again, if you are planning on going to AM WORLDS next year, then you owe it to yourself to play PRO now. And often.

I agree and do play better when amongst Open players. However, I still don't play well enough to cash with Open players, so it still feels like donating. ;D

Am is 10 bucks cheaper. So for 10 bucks you get "schooled" in a good way. Then when you play a bigger tournament in AM you will get it back when you place higher and your payout is larger. So win win

We had a few more registrations come in yesterday or at least people telling me they are playing.  I printed course maps and i am going out to Blue Valley later to do some work.  The weather is looking pretty good and the courses are looking awesome.

Again if you know you are coming, i am not going to hound you about pre payment, I just want to save some time and have cards ready beforehand, so please message me or respond if you are playing and the division.  This will help speed up Sunday morning and make things run smoother.

Thanks

Can't pass up a tourney with two bomber courses I don't think. Count me in unless you hear otherwise.  If only the putter will show up on Sunday as well...

Are #10 and #18 going to stay short for the tourney? Two deuces that typically aren't an option!! Somebody could hit a 42....according to Will at least.

I'm not in the tournament this weekend. I'm sorry, but I don't have that much time to spare. And I'm out of competition until the spring. But yes, all of this advice is designed to lure you into a trap. But know this; if you can't beat me, you have zero chance at AM worlds. Because I know all of those top AM guys and I have beaten every single one of them. So if you want to know how you will fare against those guys - come get me. Take me down. Better still, beat the people who CAN beat me like Cooper, Fred and Tank (Well, not Tank). But why wouldn't you take this opportunity to see what you got? This costs you next to nothing and gives you everything. Like I said, if you want the free plastic, I will bring out some of mine and give it to you. There is nothing in ADV - at all - that you will gain.

G$ and myself MAY move to MPM, but not to open.  I ain'ta scareed of Loomis, he ain't got no good arm to beat me with right now, so I will take advantage of it.

Besides, Utz just told me that I was 68, so I can't hang with those youngsters....

I am not sure which way he will flow on that side of the equation since it's unsanctioned.  He likes the courses, saw it on my FB and was wondering why it wasn't sanctioned....

If he plays Open, another fine chance for people to play with an exceptional golfer, and good person out there, to be sure to help your game.

Get you some Open Cro! I had a blast in the club champs playing with ya. We shot the exact same score the first 3 rounds, then you took me by 2 haha. Good luck to all those playing in the CoF this weekend. I'll be home rooting our beloved Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.

shoot em down!

Jeff ozorkiewicz will be there.  I really would like to take advice and play open, but we will see my mood the day of.  And just to stir the pot again: isnt Am worlds the biggest sandbagger tourney of them all?

Scott,

thanks for encouraging us to play up. I would not have been satisfied winning lower the way I played first round.

I always play against myself, always trying to play to my potential or better. We all like to win, or get second and shoot for that guy next time.  I did play with gents that were my level. Keep pushing us up.

Some day, I would like to play with an open player on my card, with out feeling humiliated. I usually play better when I play with much better players, and usually they try to be encouraging. I would like to play and learn from the best. DU doubs may be my chance with a good draw of the cards . . .

Any league is a good chance to play with 'open' players. Just play open in them. Especially in a more casual league setting players are more willing to offer advice or even try crazier, high reward, shots.

great turnout - especially well run flow and great for the kcfdc being a non-pdga tournament. good to see the folks that are anti-pdga get to play, and on courses that need the our presence! looking forward to the rosie up and down, what are the chances of 100 players there - good. i'd love to see 36 continuous holes played there without a lunch break, why? cuz it's just a game and it makes sense on that course. btw did guth dnf?

I also want to say how awesome this event was and how much fun I had. Even though I tanked hardcore in the second round and had a tail light cracked from an errant drive, I learned a bunch and met some great people.

Thanks to Scott for running the event and for talking me into playing up. It was nice to know I could hang around at blue valley. Time to start working on CD. 2013 league, here I come!!!

Ps: Could someone tell Dan Cashen that I would love to have a picture that he took of the disc hanging out of my tail light? After I got over the initial shock I realized that it was a thing of hilarious beauty  ;D

Just wait till you find out how much the whole tail light assembly costs. You cannot get just the lens or various parts. its the whole assembly or using the red tape.

Plenty of u-haul it parts out there on that model GM, he should be safe.

I didn't consider used parts. I was thinking of what it would entail with new parts. Nice suggestion Jack!!

Along the sandbagging note, a friend of mine started to race bicycles, and here is his comment:
Chuong Doan
I got my ass kicked in my first open category race yet it was more satisfying than any Cat4 podium finish I ever had. Humble pie may taste like sewer rat but its low fat and high in fiber.

Cat4 is not open.  But I loved this stance an comment!
