How and when you getting there? I'm still on the fence about going as I've been back and forth about a dozen times. I'm trying to figure if I can afford it since I'll have GBO and Worlds and a week long trip to New York with the wife for our 10 year anniversary sandwiched between the two.
-
I'm flyin' out there, and have friends I'm stayin' with :)......giggity..
-
....thinkin bout renting a car, and head west prolly the Friday b4 the 27th. ...but I have not blocked out all other ideas at this point. I know once I get there, I will need a car anyway. ...so just tryin to have some cost control. I'm thinkin this will fill fast....as over 300 playaz have signed up since the 12th.

Tracy, would you like to chime in about ratings creep?
But seriously? A 44 on a par 60? They play a different game than most of us can imagine.
-
Danger had a +4, not too shabby!!!
-
Nikko's .....1118 may hold up us the highest rated round to date, if the wind picks up some
-
There are 4 1100 rated rounds and 2 more 1099s. This is getting absurd.
-
The ratings are inflated because of the the courses they play. Both Vista Del Camino and Fountain Hills are easy for the top pros, yet really difficult for the rest of the field.
The amount of OB at both courses punishes the bad shots that lesser players make, while the top 10 or so players rarely throw OB.
So the scoring deviation is higher than it would normally be at another course.
-
It's all about who is playing not what they are playing. The course is not important. It's because peoples ratings continue to go up due to inflation of ratings through time.

Side note: I watched an interview with Jack Nicklaus where he stated his opinion on the juiced up modern golf balls. He believes they should be dialed back so 10's of thousands of courses could once again become relevant in the sport. It refreshed my thoughts on speed limited disc events. No, not Super Class. But limit to say disc speed 9 or less.
An interesting idea, no doubt, though we'd have to get some sort of uniform speed measurement system. I mean, I've got some awesome speed 9 destroyers but...
-
I don't think limiting to speed 9 would change much of anything. I've seen both Matt Crowe and Jake Bowen bomb Teebirds (7 speed) over 500 ft.
-
You would be limiting WHO can throw 500 ft.
-
Maybe, but I sure as hell can't.

Neither Vista nor Fountain are as challenging as they might appear. The OB is generous, there are only a few holes where the putt is dangerous, and both courses are essentially wide open. If you play the courses in low winds (like this year) they are incredibly easy to attack and put up an incredible score. And even when the winds are up (last two years) it's possible to put up a low the score if you play safe, so it's uncommon to see a 42 at Vista or a 45 at Fountain. In fact, most of the top fifty pros shot a round rating over 1000 at Vista. Make all the PAR 4's into PAR 3's and you would still have an easy course. The courses need to be re-imagined. The Pro circuit needs bigger challenges to take the comfort level out of play. Strategy and the ability to mentally/emotionally overcome adversity should be prominent elements of the game, not "who can bomb over 500." Though, to be fair, the ability to crush it doesn't necessarily mean you're a good player or that you're a winner. There are hundreds of players who can throw over 500 and it means very little. I believe Schusterick threw over 500 feet at Vista yesterday, out driving his opponents by 100 or more feet. They all got 3s - except for Feldberg who took a 4. The point is, his distance didn't make a difference. What would have made a difference would be if he second-guessed his drive because of water, or giving himself no second shot. The course needs to bite back. I would like to think that the reason a great player is great is because under pressure they were able to perform where others would collapse.

yeah, it's disgusting. dude can crush with minimal effort.

Are the women playing the same courses, same tees? I think it's kinda cool that Paige is beating the champ by a stroke!
