Title: New Players League
Post by: Bill the TD on March 26, 2013, 02:54:04 PM
I was just wondering if there is going to be a New players League this year?  I have seen posts for the other various leagues but nothing about NPL.

Hey there,

NPL is still on mondays, at the same time. I believe we're still looking for a full time League Director spot for that league if you are interested contact Ben Crosby! (BenC)

Rhonda,

I hadn't decided or announced that the Monday Olathe league was going to rotate weekly, monthly, or even at all. Please revise the league schedule and just have it say it's at Birdland (Lakesdie Hills) until further notice.

Thanks!

Maybe they should have just left Olathe off all together, since everything wasn't worked out yet.   ;)

The only thing that isn't worked out is if we will alternate the Monday KCFDC league in Olathe between the two courses, weekly, monthly, or at all. My current plan is to have the weekly at Lakeside Hills until further notice, as it is a more challenging course, has no baseballers or soccer folks around, and gives PC a much needed break from the large numbers of golfers that play it.

We have even had club members asking to set up a second weekly in Olathe on another night as well.

We can easily remove the Olathe courses from any Club leagues though Eric, if you think that's a good idea.  ;D

No, I don't think it's a good idea.  Just stirring the pot.  I actually am very excited for the Lakeside course and can't wait to play it.  As an southeastsider, I'm extremely jealous that Olathe has two courses and there are no courses along I49 (US71) corridor.  Dan Quinn was bragging that he lived 1.4 miles from 2 courses and I wanted to punch him in the face.  Just kidding, I think I am going to offer him the $500,000 he's going to sell his house for now.

Harrisonville fell completely apart once Chris Cotton left for another position.  A   presentation was made to the park board  along with a design was proposed and several members of the board had expressed interest and were  seeking funding for a bridge.  If local residents of Harrisonville become more vocal and expressed their opinions, their is an amazing park (established trees) that is ready for a course.  And i mean baskets could go in with very little tree cutting/clearing, dirt work, brush hogging etc.  Chris Cotton and i worked on a design at Lord's park, right off the I 49 corridor.  The land is sweet and the site has everything from shelters to bathrooms and good parking.

Ron Klein-Mo is.  Hes mentioned if the bridge could get built it would go in.  probably worth revisiting.  Not sure how much is needed for it.

I thought he was from Freeman? Close enough i guess, i have no experience in this dept so i dont know if it would need to be someone who actually lived in Harrisonville city limits or not. Either way it would just be great to get one put in there. Especially if the PITA stuff is done.

Just wanted to let all the new players and women know that after talking to Ben and Rhonda and how well the clinics went last year that Dynamic Discs will be presenting more clinics for the Monday leagues. We will start these earlier this year so we wont get into your playing time unless you want to stick around for additional tips.
The first league of the season is Monday April 1 and Laron "Whoman" Harris will be at Rosedale at 5:00pm to start a weekly series of clinics and really go in depth on the strategies of disc golf and how to approach everything from your discs to the shots your about to throw.
For those new players that havent heard of Laron Whoman Harris he is a Professional Disc Golfer that played at the highest level around the Midwest and won many PDGA events. He is also a great teacher of the game and Eric McCabe credits Laron as being his Mentor growing up in the sport.
Also Innova Pro Ken "Tank" Franks will be doing a few clinics also later in the month and I will let you know when that will happen. Ken is another great teacher and his "On Tour" expierence is priceless.

LaRon is the man and was a competitor on the highest level when I started playing.  Also a super nice guy.

Getting free lessons from him is like getting free lessons from someone like Scott Stokely in my opinion.  Look him up if you've never heard of him.
