I am going to just start making codes for all of the divisions Open Men is now the farting monkey division and the Amateur Masters are the Clean up on Aisle 8 Division, then people will be really confused as to what i should call them :)

A circle has no sides.

Sure it does, top side & bottom side, you need to think in more than 2 dimensions.  Don't get me started on the 4th and 5th ones.

As of now the field will be maxed at 90.  I would only go to the 180 if the tournament filled pretty early to the event.

As of today we are up to 19 pre-registered players.  A few more are starting to trickle in.

I am looking at potential players pack ideas.  Would players rather receive a tournament shirt or a tournament towel.  I realize the shirt has more value, but i was thinking that people always get shirts and towels not so much.

Just trying to get some ideas.  Any suggestion other than these are appreciated as well.

Thanks

I like the towel idea.  I have tons of shirts, but keep losing towels.  The tourney at Belle Park (a DD tourney) a couple years ago gave out towels with our name on it and we (wife, son and I ) thought that was awesome.

I thought the shirts you guys got with names and or pdga were cool as well. The thing with towels is that I've had many and lost most of them. How bout one of the small DD bags?

I would prefer the t-shirt as my fiance claims half of mine and I have a million towels and have made numerous others.  I would love to get a long sleeve dry-fit.  Not a super quality thick one but a thin one to wear underneath T-shirts to help with sunburn.  That would probably be something that a lot could use but not all of us have.  Maybe just some simple lettering on the arm to denote the event.

hole 11 at woodhenge has a new well defined gravel road passing 40 feet in front of the pin, we played it river OB, wondering what the rule will be for the tourney. also will there be an enviromental mando on 15 at blackthorne?

Anything special a non-local would need to know about how to get to the course or the course in general?  We're first-timers to Smithville and we'll be leaving Joplin around 4:30 AM so any tips for the road-weary would be appreciated.

Due to the rapid increase in registration, we are going to split the courses to allow more players.  There will now be 2 pools with one pool playing one course while the other pool plays the other course and then switches for the second round ...  if you are planning on playing please pre register still to make for a smoother check in process on the day of the event.

Scott, thanks for splitting the pools.  Playing 90 on one course at a time would have been brutal.  Splitting will probably shave 30-45 minutes off each round.

Not 100% but more than likely it will be

Pool A - MPO, MPM, MPG, FPO, MA1, FW1
1st Round - Wood Henge
2nd Round - Black Thorn

Pool B - MA2, MM1, MG1, MA3, FW2
1st Round - Black Thorn
2nd Round - Wood Henge

Again not set in stone yet but this is what I am leaning towards

I think it would be nice to finish closer to tournament central so that if groups finish earlier they have a chance to see the pros play... or I just want to be closer because it'll be closer.

But in all reality, I don't think there is an appreciable difference in the difficulty of the two courses. At most a stroke or two? There are a few bigger number holes at Woodhenge but there is also great opportunity for movement in the final holes at Blackthorn.

All I'm really saying is that it doesn't matter too much, they will both provide ample challenge and are similar enough.

Woodhenge has better finishing holes.  18 could use some teeth, but 17, 16, and 15 could see fortunes change.  The finishing holes on Blackthorn are rather weak.  Any movement on Blackthorn will be done in the front nine.  15 and 16 can throw kinks into anyone's game, but that doesn't amount to a good tournament finale.

I can't ever remember which course is which but the middle one is a lot easier than the other one though not by much. By my count, the middle course has 10 to 12 potential deuces: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 17 and maybe 1 and 18 (a few of these are must-haves) and the poorly named course to the left has just 9 deuces: 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16, and 17. And the finishing hole for the poorly named course is nowhere near tournament central so I vote for the middle course.

What is par for these courses? If a few of these holes are PAR 4's then these courses have a lot of birdies on them.

Woodhenge is par 61 and black thorn is par 58

I agree with Dick....let the lower level players start with the tougher course and the pros finish with it.  A pro that throws 400+ feet has a better chance to make a move on the longer course than 300' throwing rec player.

Not playing....Don't really care but....
Scott do what you want.  I would listen to Dick as it is his courses that he designed.  I would hold it in higher regard than anyone else's comment, and I would still do what I (You as the TD) wanted to do.

It is an event that the TD decides how to play it, and shouldn't be based on fodder in a forum.

All things being equal, thank your lucky stars that Scott has elected to allow you to enjoy playing golf on a course that was designed by Dick in a mannerism of a competitive nature.

You go where he says, and you throw plastic where Dick said. >:( ;D 8)

I have a question about hole 15 at WoodHenge.  I understand that the path, water and rocks are OB.  But do you have to make the fairway to be considered inbounds.  There is a small strip of green right and left of the path then it moves off into the ruff.  Is that ruff area inbounds?

You can throw across the path to the left and be in Bounds. The path is to be considered a river that runs through. You land on it completely covered, you are OB. Unless Scott says otherwise.

It takes our entire community to make this event work, and we need your help.  Just because my name is listed as the TD, it doesn't mean that I can do it all.  I want/need your input, and would love to have it.

So can we not give idea's that we think might help the tournament?

Having an idea one thinks is good = good idea
Having an idea one thinks is good plus someone listens and uses it = priceless

We are at 105 players as of now and the course is looking good.  i was out there today and walked the course again.

Hole #15 at Woodhenge will play the path as a river so if you land on it, you would be OB.  There is a very small section of inbounds on the other side of the path until you clear the trees and then it opens up quite a bit on the left.

#12 at Woodhenge is painted OB behind the boulders

#8 at Woodhenge as OB painted along the top of the ravine to make for a very tight short hole.

I will have water out there but you should make sure you have plenty of water and you might consider some food as there are not a lot of food choices.

Also again do not forget you have to pay to get into the park.  There should be an attendant but if there is not, please pay at the honesty drop box.  This was a cheaper option than a per person fee and it is what the parks requested.

two trees down on hole five at woodhenge that impede the tee shot..........two or more guys could easily move them over. Other than that the courses are lookin great and mowed!

Not 100% but more than likely it will be

Pool A - MPO, MPM, MPG, FPO, MA1, FW1
1st Round - Wood Henge
2nd Round - Black Thorn

Pool B - MA2, MM1, MG1, MA3, FW2
1st Round - Black Thorn
2nd Round - Wood Henge

Again not set in stone yet but this is what I am leaning towards

Any update on if this is the setup for tomorrow?

I would like to have a local artist come up with a unique logo for the event, submit your logo to me via a PM.  I will pay for the one chosen.....

More information to come, but initially I am going to be the TD for NT side and Rick may do the Am Side of the event.  The NT side will include all PRO divisions this year (not have a separate "A" Tier for Masters et al) and will probably include only 4 rounds of golf this year for them.  Looking at "Big" Blue Valley Day 1, WW & Cliff Day 2, and Swope Gold Day 3 initially for these divisions.  More information to follow but I thought with the elections and the meeting tomorrow night, if you have any ideas questions, or ways to make the event better than this past year, please be prepared to bring them forward.

It takes our entire community to make this event work, and we need your help.  Just because my name is listed as the TD, it doesn't mean that I can do it all.  I want/need your input, and would love to have it.

Please let me know how you can help make this the best NT in 2013.

Thanks,

Jack

since much has changed...input did happen.  doesn't change the notion that I decided courses and layouts.  the quote you took from missed much context.  but this does prove I'll change my mind.

looked like a good tourney.  as for nt players you had them at this and they shot well
