Title: Putting league
Post by: sswebber on September 11, 2013, 01:04:52 PM

Just found this..
I would definitely be into doing this over the winter.. Could even do it alternating backyards through winter or at a well lit course..

Let me know if you're interested and I'll start pulling together an idea for the winter..

This would be awesome if we could find someplace to be able to have it consistently.

A really neat place would be my daughters indoor gymnastics venue.. It has various elevated platforms and climbing areas that would make for an awesome indoor putting menagerie..

Not sure it would fly but i'll look into it..

Used to practice baseball here in the winter and it's pretty sweet, but I don't know the cost or schedule it would be available.

Having to climb up to your next shot would add some extra difficulty and cardio work in one go. Not to mention trowing off the vault. I'm just imagining putting from off of the balance beams  ;D :P

Mac-N-Sietz would be a great venue but they stay relativily busy even through the winter months. It could be tough getting time there but definitely worth looking into...

All those places are expensive. Cost wise it wouldn't work if we wanted a pay out. Which is a shame, as getting into a sports type facility is a great way to promote disc golf as a sport.

The putting league could be expanded into an upshot/driving league also (some of those indoor fields are large). By doing this, any non-DG spectators seeing the hot shots in town parking field length drives may be drawn to the sport, in addition to the club and its members receiving outside recognition for the skill on show.

I would be into playing for 'pride' but I know we wouldn't get numbers to cover the cost of a facility like this. $100 - $150 = approx 20 - 30 persons @ $5 /session = no payout. At best we'd have 10 people out I reckon..

I'll keep an eye out for an alternative venue..

Try 68 sports. They have a couple buildings around 95th and 69 highway.

We'll I thought we had a place lined up and it turns out that we cannot use it, so i am still looking for a place to run a winter putting league.  If anyone has any suggestions or can help, please let us know.  The cheaper the better as it keeps the league entry fees down as well.

I think a space with the room to putt about 40 ft would be ideal

not sure of cost but when I played indoor soccer many moons ago we used school gyms and local YMCA type gyms real cheap. in Texas I used a school gym on bad weather days for my youth team I coached and it only cost me a couple hours of soccer clinics

Yea, I would check local schools . . . even elementary. Also, rec centers and a few churches have gyms. I will check with a church I used to play basketball at in KC K.

We would have to figure out obstacles, and/or elevation challenges.

What about the caves up north?  There are a bunch of them.  How big is Jaegers paintball?

This may be way outside the box but in Lees summit there is a closed Kmart. Been empty for a while. Cost wise what cold we offer to rent he place for @4 hrs at a time. I would think the building owner would take any $ verses no $. I think there would be a lot of options with the size of the building.

Problem there is that a separate insurance would have to be created, otherwise we have looked at some of the empty buildings around DDKC.  I love the idea though

BULLFROGS IN LEES SUMMIT......I KNOW THE OWNER WELL. AND ITS BIG ENOUGH. HOW FAR WOULD YOU WANT THE BASKETS APART? I MIGHT ALSO BE ABLE TO USE LEES SUMMIT NORTH HS. BUT I WOULD HAVE TO WORK ON THAT. ALSO NEXT DOOR PIZZA IN LEES SUMMIT WOULD PROB BE UP FOR THIS EVENT........

IF YOU GIVE ME A PROTOCOL OF WHAT, HOW, THIS WOULD BE SET UP I COULD SEE IF THE PLACE IS BIG ENOUGH FOR THE EVENT. FROM WHAT I GATHER IT WOULD BE SET UP LIKE HORSESHOES AND PLAY WITH PARTNERS. IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD BE A DRAW YOUR PARTNER.

Singles, two discs, ten stations, 1-10 points per station. Double elimination.
It's called Putt night at Z-Boaz.
