General Banter / Independence Disc Golf Day - 10/25
« on: September 16, 2014, 02:08:22 PM »
Attention Kansas City Disc Golfers!

Independence Parks and Recreation is going to be hosting a disc golf day on the 25th of October.  It will take place at William Yates Elementary School at the Sprint Disc Golf Course in Independence.  This is an effort made in part to show support for another disc golf course in Independence and also in part just to have fun on a fall afternoon!  The event will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM and will consist of more than just disc golf.  The school has several playground areas for young children to play and there may be a surprise appearance by the Independence Fire Department as well (yet to be confirmed).  The city plans to have other activities for families; rest assured it will be a good time!

We have encouraged the Park Board Commission members to come out and witness for themselves the kind of support for disc golf that we have in the Kansas City Metro.  John Theiss and I will work together to see if we want to put together some sort of mini tournament/ace race/casual round(s) for the day.  Details on that yet to come.  Basically what we are looking for is for as many people as possible to come out and show your love for the sport.  I know it's not the longest course in town and it may not challenge your disc golf ability as much.  However, we will have the course in tip top shape and hope that you can come out for an hour or two to enjoy the day!

If you have any questions, please PM me.  I'm not entirely sure who to contact, but if someone from the board reads this, please have the date and details posted on the club's website as we have included it on the flyer for viewing.  The flyer will soon be posted at some of the area courses.  Thank you so much!  Hope to see you all there!

I see in the first post that The Mighty MO is Oct 11th...yet the PDGA schedule has it for Oct 18th.  Which is it?

Club championships are the weekend of the 11th.
I believe Scott said on Saturday that the Mighty Mo has been confirmed for the weekend after (18th).

Would need to run that by Liberty first (I think), but that would be awesome.  Don't worry, we could max it out ;)

He was just thinking about what's in it for everyone!  C'mon y'all let's quit the bashin' and just go out and play a fun tournament for a good cause.  It's been established that the players pack is a disc and a t-shirt (presumably for the amateur divisions).  The course is getting an overhaul and as Jack mentioned this will probably be one of the last times you'll be able to play the beloved hole 17.  Come on out and enjoy a fun day at Cliff Drive!

Playing devil's advocate here, but it looks like we lost a bunch of trees at Cliff recently and a lot of trees were also cut down recently.  Could any of those that were cut down have been transplanted?  Just a thought and don't intend to thread drift.

Can't wait for the event, weather looks great so far!

What about the renegade and masala? I find the renegade to be super straight and the masala to be a long turnover, how about you?

I'm not familiar with the masala....but the renegade is solid.  I simply don't have one in my bag.  The trilogy has so many options to choose from it is hard to carry them all!

I know there are only a few of us in the KC crew that throw Trilogy only, but thought I would do something similar to the innova thread that is currently going on.  I may be the only person that posts, but that's ok!

Trident - beefcake mid
Verdict - stable mid
Warship - straight mid
Fugitive - turnover mid
Harp - beefcake approach
Swan - turnover approach
Judge - stable approach
Mercy - normal putter

All max weight.

UPDATE:  I played 27 holes out at Liberty over the course of the last weekend, and the course is looking great.  There are still no tee signs, but that is in the works as well as some work to be done around the teepads I believe (hole 7 needs it for the run up on the anny route).  Hole 15 does not yet have a concrete long pad, but there is a flypad on the ground to throw off of.  All baskets are in.

NOTE: You will see a couple spots on the course where there are white or red flags sticking out of the ground.  This are areas where the mowers are being instructed to let the grass grow to build a "natural" OB.  Any tall grass will likely be painted OB for any tournaments and we would encourage you to play it as such in your casual rounds.  There are other areas which will likely be painted OB, but the spots with flags at this point are hole 3 gold, hole 8 gold, hole 10 gold and hole 18 gold.  However, all tall grass will likely be OB in a tournament.
