Both my daughters worked most of their late teen years as Lifeguards for the City of Olathe Parks and Rec at the Oregon Trail Park pool directly behind my old house. Before they worked there, they and Cindy spent the Summers there as well. Being so close to the pool and knowing the director of the pools and guards, we knew their procedures regarding many issues, from how to deal with underwear wearing drunken patrons, to when to clear the pools and deck when thunderstorms were in the area. Basically, the pool and deck are cleared immediately when any lightning is seen, or when any thunder is heard.

My card at Swope saw lightning flashes while we were halfway up hole 4. We were called in while we were playing hole 7. We could not hear the horn, but Pete and Kevin came and got us. Since none of us were killed or maimed, and no near misses happened, the call must have been made early enough, this time.  :-\

I think perhaps since we live in a part of the country that has some of the strongest thunderstorm activity, we should have our own death/injury by lightning during Disc Golf event avoidance procedure. That would make the decision of when to call the players in easier for the TDs. If phone or interweb technology shows exact locations of strikes, perhaps the players could be called in based on a distance from the nearest strike to the course. I don't know what that number would be, but I'd guess it would be around 10 miles.

I thought the tournament was fun and the courses looked great. I tried to thank all the staff I saw, but to those I missed, and even to those I did see, THANKS!   :)

General Banter / Re: Wedding Beer @ Old Pike this tuesday

Attention all KC golfers!!! I recently got married this past saturday and we have ALOT of beer left over. Couldn't think of what to do with it, and thought, how about sharing this moment with all my KC friends! So come on out to old pike league this tuesday and kill this beer, plenty for everyone!

Congrats Leo! We have sure missed you at Olathe Monday leagues. Come on out any time.  ;D

We are having league as usual today as a matter of fact. 6:00 tee time at PC. Some of us will be there early, warming up, maybe playin a few skins, or putting games.

We like wedding beer even more than ACE beer.  :)

It was indeed tick apocalypse out there. I don't have any that bit me but the tick collar failed Bowie. We've been picking since we got home.

I use 40% deet on my person and have good results. On Gus we apply Frontline once a month during the warm weather months and it works great. The problem with the Frontline though is the ticks get on him, don't like the taste, and then wind up crawling around on us, usually late at night.

Thanks to some extra team effort from Das Loomis, I've been able to secure our second female:

This is Team West's final roster:

Minna Dennis
Kaylee Kincaid
Cooper Arnold
Frank Weaver
Arturo Villarreal
Sam Webber
Das Loomis
Joe Hesting
Ken "Tank" Franks
Nick Parks
Marc Wisbey
Bobby Villarreal
Tracy Walker
Dick Parker
Shanan Carson
Nick Winkelbauer

Alternates:
Bryan Guthrie
Pete Cashen
Peter Bures
Jeff Campbell

Looks like a very strong team for the most part.

Go Westsiders! Please don't embarrass yourselves and our great State again this year.  :-[

When I saw the results last year it somehow made me feel like I'd just watched the "squeal like a pig" scene in Deliverance.  :o

Just did a drive by and didn't see any form work from the road. They have dumped and leveled out some crushed rock in preparation for the tees though, and with the drying conditions hopefully will commence soon.

League is at Prairie Center every Monday in May. Sign up by 5:45 for a 6:00 tee.

We will return to Birdland in June.

I don't think so yet.... I'll do a recon Sunday sometime and post. I do know some crushed rock has been placed on some of the tee areas.

Hey Tom, I have class on Monday nights off and on (which is why I wasn't at PC tonight).  Is there a way to pick up my winnings (from the night of April 29th) throughout the week or how is it best to collect?  Just wondering, thanks.
Perry Martin

Perry, pm sent.

There's also something to be said about being over confident.  The West Rocky Balboa came in last year as the hands-down favorite to win.  It was predicted to be a massacre.  The East Mr. T (Clubber Land) prepared well for the event and wanted the win more than the West Rocky.  We Mr. T knew itwas going to take our best effort to earn the win.  The West Rocky made the mistake of thinking they won before the event even started.

Now let's see if the West can do to the East what Rocky did to Clubber Lang in the rematch......  ;D

I just wish I was a good enough player to get in this game. If I lived on the East side I would take Jack's place.  ;D

General Banter / Re: stolen basket
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:38:59 AM »
All baskets at Lakeside Hills and at Prairie Center have locks. Although the lock at Lakeside Hills are pretty heavy duty, all locks really do is keep honest people honest. They really are not much of a deterrent to an individual(s) that is determined to steal.  :(

I would propose that when the thieves are caught, their names are made known to the KCFDC membership, and they are banned from any KCFDC league or event for life. I believe the PDGA disciplinary folks could be persuaded to also ban them from participating in any PDGA events for a period of time as well. I doubt the low- lifes that stole our basket(s) care about any of this, but maybe?
