For the 4th time in 13.5 years an ACE was hit at Olathe GLOW. Steve Thimmesch hit hole 15 short with a skip in. He received $541.50 last night. Just as the others, same night payout.
Congrats Steve! We resume GLOW on Monday January 7th, 2019 due to Xmas eve and new years eve. See ya all next year.

This coming Monday, October 29th we kick off the 14th season of Olathe GLOW. We meet at the shelter nearest the restrooms and draw partners at 6:00 sharp. Please sign up by 5:45. We play for $5 and there is an optional $1 ACE Fund as well. Please bring small bills. I'll have lights for sale ( 2 pack for $3) and duct tape on hand. The baskets are typically illuminated, and if anyone can be there by 5:20ish to help set the lights out it would be neato. We started these shenanigans in 2005 and here we go again!

We have known for a couple years that the City of Olathe was planning to use the old golf course at Lakeside Hills for a new park. We were told when we put in Birdland that it most likely would be temporary. We were also told that only a few of the back holes (14, 15, 16, 17) would be affected. Last week Pete Cashen, Cade Garrelts and I met with the City and their Park Design firm to look over their plans. The majority of holes are affected by the new park plan and Birdland as we know it will not exist once construction starts in late spring of 2018. The course will likely be pulled partially or completely during construction for approximately one year and a revised or new version put in after the main construction is complete.

We have been provided the new plan, complete with the Park Design Firm's course modifications. In the meeting I proposed I evaluate the proposed changes, and look at a complete redesign as well. That is where we are today. I received the design firm's survey file and the new park plan file Friday 11-3-17 in the afternoon, and I have just started looking at it in detail. We will have a good idea by the end of November what direction the course layout will be taking. But ultimately the course will be shorter, tighter, and less of a Championship level course, with a new park road and a bike/walk trail crossing thru the land we once roamed freely upon.

Let's be optimistic and glad to be able to have a course at all. We had Birdland to ourselves for five years.  8)

Cade, Pete or I will provide updates as we find out the path forward.

Mostly clear skies, 12 mph northwest winds, dry Earth, temperature around 54, and a 3/4 moon is how it was for the 12 players that attended week three of the thirteenth season of Olathe GLOW. The pins were in mostly all short positions except for 12 and 17. As posted earlier, we will play GLOW at Birdland thru November.

Brian Taylor & Cade Garrelts        52 for $30
Andy Lewis & Zack Bradrick         52 for $30
Steve Thimmesch & Chase Neal    53
Tom Butler & Leevarn Sarvis        55
Deano & Billy Lee                        57
Rob Haney & Anthony Pfeifer       58

With all twelve getting in the ACE fund increased to $858.

The target zone size isn't and hasn't changed from the beginning. The increase in chains allows for more ACES and long up shots to stick. Putting soft on calm days my putts stay in, and on windy days jamming the putts in works too. I like the Discatcher 28 and the Mach X's. To each his own though, and lucky for all of us that know more chains is dilly dilly.
