General Banter / Re: Cleanest Disc Golf Course
« on: June 15, 2014, 10:43:27 AM »
One thing I noticed when I started playing this game just over three years ago, is that disc golfers..are the littering est people I have ever seen.

This is a gross over simplification. It seems to me like that a small minority of players are responsible for most of the trash on the courses. I've played rounds and noticed the only trash really on the course is a couple of beer cans every few holes. This is especially annoying at courses that have trash cans. If you carried a full 12 pack of natty light onto the course surely you can carry the empties until you reach a trash can. Your mom isn't coming behind you to pick up your trash.

Tournaments / Re: 2013 Discraft Ace Race
« on: August 12, 2013, 05:18:51 PM »
I often take notes and like here people comments and concerns as it helps me with future events.  I agree that even from a non player for the Ace Race, I did not like seeing such big group.  Do people like the idea that I require a limit of no more than 8 per card?

Mark Mills, I did overlook your Ace, so yours counts.  Several of the others that I have been told about after the fact where not marked to indicate an Ace so and Ace was not awarded.  If they are not parked, there is no way for me to know if there is an Ace, especially since our format can easily get 3 or more points without getting an Ace.

8 on a card seems like a good limit.

As far as the scoring goes I have a suggestion. Awarding 1 point for any metal/fabric seems excessive, especially with all the portable baskets out there(extra legs=more cheap points). Seems like it should be 1 point for metal/fabric basket and above. Probably should be 2 points for chains. Making a chain out and skipping into the pole worth the same amount of points doesn't make any sense as this is an ace race, hitting the pole/legs often isn't even close to an ace.

Still a fun event no matter what. Thanks Scott.

I have had really good luck with Columbia hiking shoes from Dick's or Famous Footwear. I usually spend 45-60 on them and they will last me for a year or longer. I have usually been pretty hard on shoes, the Columbias I have had with the reinforced toe hold up really well. You can check these out.

The shoes from famous are more like the ones I have and look to me like the more durable ones.

Thoughts on Old Pike as a pay-to-play course?

I would love it if it was a pay-to-play by round course. However the non-prorated $50 a year is not a good deal, especially for a course in that kind of condition. I say this because I know that Old Pike doesn't have a lot of members and therefore the funds for maintenance and improvements are very limited. I feel if they had some way to charge a per round fee the course could do much better, and be more accessible to the players that are willing to pay a couple bucks to play. I know that isn't realistic though as it would basically take somebody being there to collect money daily.

That being said Old Pike could probably be in much better shape if it was a public course. I know there are some people that volunteer time there to cut grass and do various other work, but much more work is needed and apparently the membership fees are not getting it done.

I have played on only a few play-to-play courses in my 8 years of playing. The couple of privately owned p2p courses were in less than good shape, need mowing and noxious weed removal.  The one p2p course I can remember on public land was the course in Newport News Virginia. I believe at the time it was $1 to play ($2 or $20 a year now) and this course was beautiful and well maintained. It also had plenty of traffic on it, but there were not really many options in the area.

It seems to me that small fee p2p per round is the way to go. Relying on people to pay a $50 non-prorated yearly fee then relying on those same people to do work on the course is probably not such a good strategy.

astronomically scheduled during the chiefs bye week as I recall, orion rising in the southern night sky about then.

Bye week is November 10 this year. Seems like the club championships have been in November before haven't they? Maybe 2009 when the Chiefs bye week was the first weekend in November?

Now, can we get back to being a bunch of Kansas City disc golfers and leave this divisive crap behind?  At least for the next 10 months.

You can blame all them democrats living nearby for that.

 :o

Ha!

1.  This has nothing to do with disc golf or disc golfers.
2.  That statement is a fact.

1. Exactly, thus we don't need this divisive crap on a disc golf message board.
2. This is actually not a fact, it is purely your hypothesis.

I'm just messing with you Jose. I thought about saying something after the first post, and didn't. Had to after seeing that line show up in your post today.  ;D

I think that is Hidden Valley Park near Parvin and I-435 by Worlds of Fun.  I seem to remember folks setting up and playing temporary holes there on the weekends a few years back.

I sure hope so, that is just a couple minutes from my house.  :)

Just because us addicts have a lot of equipment, it is not required. Still only 1 disc needed to play.  8)

Love the idea of more courses in the northland.

Glow tonight! Tee off at 6. See Fred to sign up.
E

Is it at Swope or Old Pike?

They should be at Swope. I don't think this is alternating every week. I think the plan was just to have each league visit the other once a month.
