General Banter / 2018 East Side Team Page
« on: February 28, 2018, 09:46:23 AM »
Okie dokie, here are some updates on the team challenge for 2018. Due to conflict with the Mid America Open A-tier on June 23-24, 2018, the 2018 East vs. West Team Challenge will be re-scheduled for Friday July 6, 2018 (1 rd at MO course) and Saturday July 7, 2018 (2 rds at KS courses). We are also having Sunday July 8, 2018 reserved in case there is a rain makeup needed. Joe Hesting (captain for the west side team) and myself (captain for the East side team) worked together to find a suitable date.  This reschedule was confirmed by KCFDC Board as I was notified by President Timko a few days ago.

For qualifiers, I am waiting until May to start having them, but here's what I know today. Here are the tournaments that I am going to use:

May 6, 2018 City of Fountains
May 12, 2018 Diva Feeva
June 3, 2018 Eastern Front - Battle at Cliff Drive
June 8-10, 2018 Kansas City Wide Open

I will also use leagues at Waterworks and Bad Rock Creek, but I am not sure of the dates yet. They will be announced later. I will also be having a match play event either June 23 or 24 to finalize the team. Most likely it will be Saturday June 23rd, but that is a ways out so we will see which exact date I will use. It will be 2 rounds during one of the days (Sat or Sun, not both). Before this final qualifier (6/23 or 6/24) you will need to be current with the club (be a KCFDC member) or I will select someone who is to take your spot. In order to play in this event, you have to be a club member. No debate on this. For the women, there will be 1 or 2 chosen from Diva Feeva, 1 or 2 from the KCWO, and if needed 1 chosen as captain's pick. For the men, there will be 6 events (3 tournaments, 2 leagues, and the final qualifier) to make the team. I will take at least one man from each of the 6 qualifiers, but I would like the option to take up to 5 men at an event if it is particularly strong group. For example, last year I used City of Fountains for a qualifier, which had 39 open players and was a very strong field. The top 6 MO players from it were: Chris Clemons, Jamie Loveall, Mike Murphy, Jake Lazzo, CD Steiner, and Jake Bowen. I want all of these great players on the team. I ended up being only taking 3 and that was due to a tie. The rest had to qualify at another event. With ties, potential issues with being a club member, and variations in strength of player pools at events, I would like this flexibility to be able to make the team. Same methodology would apply to the ladies, I will take at least one at each of their qualifiers, but may take 2 from an event if there is a good pool of players to choose from and they express interest in the Team Challenge event.

We will again be ordering shirts sometime in June, but I have don't have the exact date yet. It may be before the final team is set. For those that have played before and already have shirts, this won't be an issue. So if you hope to be on the team and don't have a shirt you will need to get me money for shirts to me before they are ordered. The have been $20 per shirt and you will need a home shirt (black) and away (grey). The last cost thing I need to mention is the $10 we collect for the event which is for the tree fund. That can be collected the day of the event. But if you aren't able to pay, then there is no guarantee I will play you in the event.

My plan is to maximize the roster again and deal with the fallout of not everyone getting to play all the rounds. Last year we had 23 on each team, I don't expect that to change. 16 men qualifiers, 2 women qualifiers, 5 captain choices (4 men & 1 woman). However, we only play a total of 18 each round of the team challenge. Thus, there are 5 people that have to sit out each round. Everyone is a competitor and wants to play and hard decisions have to be made. Every year this is an issue and people's feeling get hurt. I anticipate that everyone on the team will play at least 1 round, but beyond that I am trying to make the best matchups and win the team challenge for the East Side.

There is also a Facebook group that if you want to be added to, just PM and let me know and send me your phone number so I am able to get a hold of you.  I will post updates on the FB page and on here as things come up and change. That is all for now.  Go East Side!

Barter Town / Star Mako
« on: December 22, 2017, 05:11:01 PM »
I am looking for Star or Echo Star Mako 172 grams or heavier.  I bought a used one from DD last year and havent found anything like it.  I don't want a Mako3 or Champion Mako.   I have paypal, cash, or possible trade.  To trade, I have lots of discs to trade mostly Innova but a few other manufacturer's too.  Just send me a PM if you have some sitting around.

PM if me you are interested in being on the East Side Team.  I will add you to the Facebook group and you can be part of the discussion and decisions that are being made.

KC Team Challenge will take place on June 24th-25th this year.
Saturday 24th - West side hosts Best shot doubles (course TBD)
Sunday 25th - East hosts Alt shot doubles & Singles (course/s TBD)

Most likely this year there will be 16 Men & 2 Women on the team, with 4 Alternates of either sex.  18 total Qualified players and 4 Captain's Picks

March 12:  Rosedale Open
May 7 - City of Fountains
May 13 - KC Diva Spring Feeva
May 21 - Paradise Diamond
June 6 - Swope Gold League
June 9-11 - KCWO

I am considering April 9 Longview Open (Pro/Adv) but there would need to be quite a few East-siders that would need to head west before I will make it a qualifier.  For example, I decided against using the Kan-U-Wyco since there are relatively few of us East-siders registered for this events.  However if any east-sider shoots an average of a 1000 rated rounds for either of those tournaments, they are on the team.  Another tournament I am considering is Battle at Bad Rock on April 22, but again it depends on how many east-siders sign up for it.

There will be at least one qualifier at Thursday night Waterworks league.  And we will have remaining qualifiers at Legacy and Blue Valley that will be announced at a later date.

That's all for now.

Other Area Courses (Not Affiliated with the KCFDC) / No Joke
« on: April 01, 2015, 08:50:38 AM »
I know it's April Fool's day, but no joke Raymore course is 90% complete and playable with 18 holes. There's still some additional mowing and things that are not complete, but there are 24 tee pads poured (two pads for 2,3,8,10,15, and 16) and all 18 baskets are in.  One change from the original posted map is #10 and 18.  10 is now shorter and 18 is using the original green/basket location for 10.  There will be new bridges put in between 10 and 11 and 13 and 14 to cross stream.

A couple of other things that I am working with the P&R to address is that there are soccer teams practicing near 5 and 6 with parents camped out right by the basket or in the fairway.  Not much I can do about it for the next month, but those teams should be done by Mother's day.  Usually between 5:30 and 7:30 pm Mon-Thur is the worst, the rest of the time it's wide open.  Also sometimes there are people fishing near hole 2, 3, 7, and 8.  Please be aware.  See you out there.

General Banter / Friday Dec 26 9am
« on: December 24, 2014, 10:52:22 AM »
I and some others are planning on checking out Liberty course at 9am Friday Dec 26.  Sorry FTL.  Just giving an option for the east siders.

Let me know if should look for you.

General Banter / Discraft? Discraft!
« on: September 09, 2014, 01:45:27 PM »
Since I filled out the Innova and Trilogy, I thought I would show the Discraft molds I throw too.

Z Zone (super overstable midrange)  Love this disc!  Forehands, skip, head wind, approaches, etc.  It never flips and rarely goes too far.  I can crank on this puppy and it can take it.
Buzzz regular Z 172-175g dead straight, little fade, or anny shots.  Whatever line is needed.
Buzzz 10 year anniv 177g+ Used, when full power is needed or more fade is needed than the straighter Buzzz.
ESP Nuke (max distance drives). I currently don't bag anymore, as it's too inconsistent for me now.  But my longest drives ever were done with this disc.

General Banter / Raymore course
« on: July 23, 2014, 09:33:49 PM »
Front 9 baskets are in at Raymore Recreation Park course (we will come up with a better name soon).  Hole one starts by the skate park.  Tee pads aren't poured yet, but there are markers at tee pad locations (some holes #2, 3, & 8 have short pad locations too).  I will be posting map shortly either on Facebook or possibly here if I can figure it out.  Back 9 will go in later in the year (possibly into next spring).   Ribbon cutting and dedication and full opening will be next summer.  But, you can play some disc golf now in Raymore if you live close to there.  Get a hold of me by PM, email, or phone if you want to check it out and want a tour.  Those of us that live here are super excited.  I know a few (Vince Como, Brad Ryberg, and Sean Mizell) played tonight and I will be setting the initial course record tomorrow evening ;)

Pleasant Hill / 7/3 Glow and swap meet
« on: June 30, 2014, 06:31:44 PM »
After the new players league on Thursday 7/3 at Pleasant Hill, I was thinking it would be fun to have a $5 random draw doubles glow round.  We'll start around 9pm.  In between the two rounds, I am going to be bringing my extra discs to swap/sell if anyone is interested.

Blue Valley / mowed
« on: June 10, 2014, 12:03:28 PM »
When was the last time BV was mowed?  I was thinking of playing it this week, but if the grass is too tall, I might try another option.

Legacy Park - Lee's Summit / mowed and pins moved

Found and Lost / Found at swope
« on: April 16, 2014, 09:36:34 PM »
I dropped a couple of discs in the Swope disc return that I found on hole 1 on Monday evening.  One was a saint no name and number and the other was I think a Vulcan? It did have a number.  I was in a hurry so I didn't call just dropped them off.
