General Banter / Independence Disc Golf Day - 10/25
« on: September 16, 2014, 02:08:22 PM »
Attention Kansas City Disc Golfers!

Independence Parks and Recreation is going to be hosting a disc golf day on the 25th of October.  It will take place at William Yates Elementary School at the Sprint Disc Golf Course in Independence.  This is an effort made in part to show support for another disc golf course in Independence and also in part just to have fun on a fall afternoon!  The event will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM and will consist of more than just disc golf.  The school has several playground areas for young children to play and there may be a surprise appearance by the Independence Fire Department as well (yet to be confirmed).  The city plans to have other activities for families; rest assured it will be a good time!

We have encouraged the Park Board Commission members to come out and witness for themselves the kind of support for disc golf that we have in the Kansas City Metro.  John Theiss and I will work together to see if we want to put together some sort of mini tournament/ace race/casual round(s) for the day.  Details on that yet to come.  Basically what we are looking for is for as many people as possible to come out and show your love for the sport.  I know it's not the longest course in town and it may not challenge your disc golf ability as much.  However, we will have the course in tip top shape and hope that you can come out for an hour or two to enjoy the day!

If you have any questions, please PM me.  I'm not entirely sure who to contact, but if someone from the board reads this, please have the date and details posted on the club's website as we have included it on the flyer for viewing.  The flyer will soon be posted at some of the area courses.  Thank you so much!  Hope to see you all there!

Did anyone notice that Brody Miller is tearing it up at worlds?!  An ultimate professional to say the least, he can obviously chuck a disc as well.  Only four back of the lead!

Found and Lost / WaterWorks-Teal FR Judge
« on: August 01, 2014, 09:02:01 PM »
No idea where I left it laying, but I left a first run judge that is teal in color out there somewhere. I would love to get it back. If found please call me or take to one of the shops. Haven't seen many around town if any in this color scheme first run so don't just throw it in your bag and hope nobody asks, cuz I'll ask  ;)

General Banter / ATTENTION INDEPENDENCE DISC GOLFERS
« on: July 31, 2014, 10:23:41 AM »
John Theiss and I have been in contact with Independence Parks and Recreation and have begun discussion about putting a course in somewhere in town.  As many of you know, there is a LOT of work that goes into putting in a disc golf course and it takes a LOT of time and energy to get it done.  Parks and Rec wants to gauge interest in disc golf by having as many Independence disc golfers attend a meeting on August 12th.  The city already has some temporary baskets in storage, so they plan to bring one of those baskets along to the meeting and present it (disc golf) along with what has already been done with regards to a course installation to those in attendance.  So, we need as many Independence disc golfers as possible to attend this meeting and show their support.  I think it is OK for local residents of other towns to be in attendance as well if you feel so moved.  The emphasis, though, is to see how many local players there are and what the need and desire is for a course.

The meeting will be held at the Sermon Center at 6:00 PM on August 12th.  The address for the Sermon Center is as follows:

201 North Dodgion Street
Independence, MO 64050

So, call your friends & family if they play and are Independence residents and do your best to get them to this meeting.  If there is a desire for a course and a core group of residents who will continually support the course and its upkeep, I think we have a good shot at getting a course put in (P.S. I have certainly made mention of the club and KCFDC's efforts in course upkeep, collaboration, etc).  The location is still under discussion, but this is the first step.  I am very excited for this opportunity and am hopeful that you are as well.  I know that the forum will only reach a handful of Independence players, so I need your help in spreading the word.  August 12, 6:00 PM, let's make it happen.

« on: July 31, 2014, 08:13:17 AM »
Is the plan to play the MAC setup tonight?  I wasn't able to attend last week, but would like to give it a shot tonight to see what they are up against this weekend.

General Banter / WaterWorks Hole 17
« on: July 15, 2014, 03:22:52 PM »
This was partially brought up on the Midwest Amateur Championships discussion, but I didn't want to thread drift.  Whilst playing the July 4th superclass round, an approach was made to hole 17's long right basket down by the road.  The shot went long and over the street/parking lot pavement and landed in the dirt/grassy area that is part of hole 12 (we call it the peninsula placement for 12).  While this is typically played as out of bounds in leagues and such, the comment was made that technically there is not a defined OB line to make that out of bounds.  Theoretically the line extends from the basket north towards #13's fairway, turns right at the end of the pavement, hangs another right and then comes back towards the basket.  I do not believe that there is a line extending to those backyards over there for OB; the line follows the pavement per the last sentence.  We know that hole 9's fairway is certainly OB, but what about across the street on the backside of hole 12's peninsula green?  Tis the question:  WAS TANK OB OR NOT?!?!?!

General Banter / STL Disc Golf
« on: July 07, 2014, 09:32:48 AM »
I'll be in STL this coming weekend and have window Saturday morning for some DG.  I'll be staying in the Lake Saint Louis area, so probably don't want to drive 45 minutes to go play JB.  Has anyone played the new course in Chesterfield (Logan University) or the other new course up in Foristell (Indian Camp Creek)?  I've played Quail Ridge before.  I know that Sioux Passage and JB are probably the best in town, but not sure I want to drive that far.  Opinions?

General Banter / Random Thought - Thornfield
« on: June 06, 2014, 09:36:58 AM »
I know that Thornfield is not exactly in the center of Kansas City and I also know that it is a private course.  However, it's also one of the best courses we have in town.  Has there ever been a PDGA event there or is that off limits?  Seems to me that someone should run a tournament out that direction and include PC, Birdland and Thornfield for a killer three round tournament.  Just a random thought for the day...

General Banter / Colorado Courses
« on: April 08, 2014, 03:12:37 PM »
Quick question for anyone who has played in Colorado.  I am taking a trip out there more than likely this summer and thinking about passing through Colorado Springs, Denver and eventually on to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Without deviating too far off the beaten path, is there a course or two that I shouldn't miss?  This would be a trip with the wife, so will only be able to play one maybe two courses along the way and want to make it worth while.  Clearly we have some of the best courses in the nation right here in KC so I don't want to be bored with some random course(s) in Colorado either just because it's en route.  Let's hear it fellas.

General Banter / Cave Golf
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:22:05 AM »
Out of curiosity, how come we haven't ever explored the option of a cave course in Kansas City like the Crystal City course in STL?  Surely there is more cave space in KCMO than there is in STL (although I admittedly don't know for sure).  Do we know what it cost or took STL to get that under way?  Does anyone know if we have any similar options or places available here that we could explore that?  KC Disc Golf seems to taper off in the winter months with the exception of a few glow leagues and two weekend leagues.  Clearly the sun plays a major role in that, but a cave course would give us more options.

Thoughts?  Discussion? Go!

General Banter / Washer/Dryer wanted - Lawnmowers for sale
« on: November 22, 2013, 10:09:10 AM »
If anyone has a washer/dryer set they're looking to get rid of, please PM me.  Wife and I bought a house and sellers aren't leaving their current set.  Not looking to spend a whole lot if possible.

Also, have three lawnmowers for sale.  Mowing months are pretty well over, but spring will be here before know it.  Willing to trade one of the mowers too if that would help on the price of the washer/dryer.  Pics of the mowers available if truly interested.
