Tournaments / Ozanam Tournament at Thornfield - Sept 10th (feedback)
« on: July 28, 2011, 11:26:29 AM »
I have a meeting next week with Ozanam, they have asked for my feedback on holding a successful charity tournament.
(I guess I have a little experience?)

I have a few ideas for them but would rather provide some feedback from 'the horses mouth'. So fire away KC Discgolfers!
Here is the link, please look it over and then post your thoughts here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll just add my main point to her: what we do with the Prostate Cancer Doubles and how I perceive other events at Thornfield is this;
- We try to provide a competitive yet fun event for the disc golf community. This is not to say newer player are not welcome, my nephews from St Louis, newer players, REALLY enjoyed themselves this year.
- Other events at Thornfield, for the most part, seem to be designed to attract new player and/or people who have never played before.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Again, your thoughts are appreciated. Everything will remain anonymous!

General Banter / Off Topic - Ball Golf Tournament: September 30th
« on: July 21, 2011, 12:27:33 PM »
The seventh annual Faith-Love-Hope-Win Charity Golf Scramble is scheduled for Friday, September 30th at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Spring Hill, KS. [www.sycamoreridgegolf.com]

I thought this might interest a few of those of you who play both ways.  ;D

The entry fee is $125 per player. Yes higher than your typical disc golf tournament but this includes:
- golf, range balls
- lunch
- player pack (with hat, t-shirt and other goodies)
- beverages (unlimited)!!
- more.....

http://www.flhw.org/2011-events/107-7th-annual-flhw-golf-tournament.html

As a result of our first six years, we have donated over $175,000 to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.prostatecancerfoundation.org).  Due to a special matching program at PCF, our donations have resulted in more than $350,000 in research for improved treatments and a cure for advanced prostate cancer.

It is through the generosity of corporate sponsors and players that we hope to make this year a true source of pride and success for all who are involved. Our goal for 2011 is to raise $50,000. The entire amount raised will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF). The PCF will again dedicate this gift to support research for improved treatments and a cure for advanced prostate cancer. We are hopeful that our seventh year for this fundraising event will continue to be a tremendous success!

The mission of the Faith-Hope-Love-Win Foundation is to win the battle against advanced prostate cancer. The approach to win this battle will be achieved by leveraging the resources, including financial, emotional and intellectual, within our families, friends, neighbors and communities. For background information on the foundation, please visit the website at: www.flhw.org.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/sams-club-offers-free-mens-health-screening-tests-123021108.html

General Banter / Trash at Rosey
« on: March 15, 2011, 11:17:28 AM »
With the recent whacking of the underbrush on Rosey up top (road between 11/12 and 14) a lot of trash was undercovered.
Saturday and Sunday I pulled 7-8 grocery bags of what was mostly bottles/cans/plastic. There is more.

I also grabbed 2-3 more from the side of 18.
(Yes, I'm on IR so I have a little more free time than the rest of you during your rounds. I just walk, keep score and pick up trash)

I would like to make two suggestions:
- encourage fellow DGer's to grab a few plastic grocery bags before you go out for your round. Fill them as you play. If just a few of us did this the park would be stunning a just a few days!
- make part of the upcoming work days picking up trash. For example the side if the hill going south on Mission from I-35 could use a crew and a bunch of garbage bags.

I'll step off my stump now. I didn't post this looking for accolades, I'm just pointing out that if we don't clean up the trash, who will?

General Banter / Square Up
« on: January 13, 2011, 01:23:36 PM »
I'm passing this along as an FYI, primarily because after using this service, I'm sold.
I thought the club and any tournament directors who might have interest.

The website:
www.squareup.com

What is it: a better, cheaper way to take payment for events, club dues etc.
The fees are cheaper than PayPal, when you swipe a card and equal to PayPal
if you type or manually enter the card information. Go check out the website.

It does require an iPhone or iPad with a data plan. The card swiper is free and the account
is free and as a matter of fact they will send extra swipers at no charge.  I currently have four.
The swiper is not tied to an account, the funds are deposited in which ever account the iPhone
or iPad application is logged into at the time.

I used this at the last poker event for FLHW.org at it sure was easier than hand writing credit card receipts and then later
entering into PayPal.
