General Banter / Wisconsin Dells/Madison/Milwaukee

I'll be in The Dells area next weekend, playing gigs Sat and Sun, and spending at least Sunday night if not Monday night in the Milwaukee area.  What courses are recommended?  I haven't explored the Worlds' courses from a few years back yet, and I know of one in Baraboo.  Any suggestions/shouldn't miss/shouldn't play courses?

Tournaments / Endicott Open/Global Tourney (St Louis)

August 20-21, the B-Tier Endicott Open will be part of the PDGA's Global DG Tournament. 

So far there are 15 events, including in New Zealand, Japan, and England.  There's a global payout in addition to the local payout, so you can win twice.  There's also a healthy pool of USDGC spots up for grabs.

Blue Valley / Friday 7/1

I'm planning to play BV starting about noon Friday.  CD has heartily committed to playing, but something tells me we may not play the full 18.  I'll have a newbie with me, and I'd peg her for throwing about 74.  Through 3.  I'll have plenty of water...c'mon out and sweat it all off before the party weekend.

An Aerobie Arrow putter makes a decent scraper for lite ice.  Really heavy frost or freezing rain/sleet type stuff, no.   But, the downwind side of my car, which still got ice but not nearly as heavy, it worked great.  The windshield, I needed the real scraper.  I like the Arrow as a putter too, so it's an extra bonus.

General Banter / Anyone besides me and Surfer Dude played Ste Genevieve?

If you have, PLEASE post here.  The Park Board is hesitating about doing a lot toward finding grant money or whatever, until they know that it's being used.  Finding discs from 12 states so far doesn't seem to matter.  And, justifiably, they want to know how many rounds are being played.  I can't tell them that, but I can at least tell them how many people HAVE played it.

So, if you've been to the course in Ste Genevieve (actually made it, unlike Jack...) please answer these few questions for me. But, only if you've REALLY been there and REALLY played the course...hint, hint....

1)Have you played the DG course in Ste Genevieve, Pere Marquette Park?
2)How many times have you played it?
3)Did you buy anything at a local store? Bottle of soda, 6 pack of beer, lunch, whatever...
4)If we held a fund raiser tournament, toward getting new baskets, would you come over to play? Say, $20/person, 2 rounds of 18 (using short and long tees to 9 baskets)?

yeah, the baskets are in lousy shape, but that's what I'm trying to get changed!

General Banter / An open letter to everyone in the KCFDC

This might seem a little bigheaded to some, but that's tough!!

I just want to say thanks to everyone who is part of the disc golf community in KC.  I was introduced into this world in 2002 and have really gotten a lot from it.  Friendships, life experiences, great fun times, and a lot of learning about a great sport.  I can't say thanks enough to anyone, and to single anyone out would be insulting to many, except one person:  Surfer Dude, Mark Arnold, who got me out there, loaned me discs to start, and introduced me to the game and to the core people of my experience.  He's not around much right now, but I think he'll be back.

Mark also introduced me to the KCFDC and the PDGA, and showed me the benefits of being involved at even the smallest level.  I highly recommend it to everyone!  Just reading the Worlds review in Disc Golfer gave me a great feeling, knowing I had a small part to contribute to the success of that amazing time.  Reading the article and knowing the exact places they all talked about, specific holes and hills and whatnot, made me proud to be a part of KCFDC.

But, it's time to move on, as some know.  I'm leaving town, at least for a while, to see what music offers.  It sure doesn't offer me much around here!  I"m off to New Orleans.  It's tough leaving here for a lot of reasons, but the disc golf scene is one of the few solid reasons to want to stay right now.  That's all of you folks, and the many others of the club who don't read this forum.

For those who AREN"T actual members of the Club, nor the PDGA, why aren't you?  You're just going to take advantage of everything, have it laid out for your benefit, and not give anything back?  THAT is being a bagger...Volunteer time is good, and needed from everyone, member or not, but that $20 says more in some ways.  This is already one of the bigger DG clubs in the country, from my understanding, but if everyone who looks at this website once in a while would be a paying member, it would be HUGE, and the local government entities would HAVE to notice.  Things would really happen, to benefit disc golf at one level, but actually help the entire community by improvements to parks.

I'll be playing at LaFreniere Park, with Nageeb hopefully!  There's not much in the DG scene in N'awlins, but maybe I can make a little contribution there too.  I have the best imaginable example to work from, and I really mean THANKS for everything.

I may be back.  I may not.  I'll certainly be back to visit sometime, and I plan to keep up with things through the board.  But I'll be one of those non-member readers, sad to say.  It's only been 7 years, but a lifetime of memories already. 

Best of luck to everyone, may your drivers follow your arm, may your midranges park, and may your putters develop a love affair for chains.

Be it hereby stated to all KCFDC discussion board readers:
By voice vote of the 7 participants at the 9/1 league...

The 9/8 league at SMP will be a Won Disc Wango.  That means you can use one disc and one disc ONLY through the entire round.  Bring an extra if you want, but should you switch discs for any reason, you'll get 2 strokes.  Lost, stolen, deer poops on it, tough.  Bring a mini too.

THIS WILL START AT 5:30 SHARP.  Plan on no later than 530 the rest of the season.

the tee sign is still not in place, and the basket is the one from the island, with the around the clock game nickle on it.  The island still has the #9 flag on it.  I'm surprised it's not been taken by now.
