Found and Lost / White Archon found at Rosedale in-between 17 & 18
« on: June 09, 2014, 03:30:52 PM »
I picked it up, the guys waiting on #13 said it was your dog's.  I told them I'd get it to you then just completely forgot to.  I went back up to Rosedale and you were not there anymore. I didn't want to put in the disc return bin because it didn't have any name or number on it.

If this is yours or you know who (or whose dog) it belongs to, I'd like to get it back to you.

Sorry for the mix up.

General Banter / Heritage Park
« on: March 18, 2014, 10:01:48 AM »
Heritage Park has been getting cut as of last year, the budget and funds have been approved and just waiting on spring to get the forestry mowers in there to help with some removal.  I am hoping for an April or May opening but it depends on the parks department.

This was the last we've heard about it, and with the projected opening quickly approaching, I think it deserves its own thread.

Can anyone provide any update on how the course is progressing?

Myself and Andy Portwood tied in the Rosedale Open and Kan-U-Wyco this last weekend.

At least we thought we tied at the WYCO, but we didn't actually tie, I shot 1 stroke less, which meant he beat me by a stroke.

Anyone confused? In the final round, my front 9 score added up to a 34, but was marked a 35. Don't worry  I'm not mad at anyone but myself.  I checked and initialed the card and when the official score was counted, the mistake was found.  I then was given a 2-stroke penalty on top of my actual score per PDGA rule 805.02 section H, #2.

While I was pretty upset when I realized what happened, its not too big of a deal since it only dropped me from 3rd to 4th.  If it dropped me into a 4-way tie for 5th, i'd be much more upset. Andy had been nothing but positive and fun to play with the whole round so If I was going to take a 2-stoke penalty, at least the now sole owner of 3rd place was deserving of it. It was a great weekend, and I was pretty happy with my play overall.

Congratulations Andy! I've now gone head to head with you 3 times, and can't seem to beat you.

I post this jokingly with a smile because it doesn't really matter that much in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully I will learn my lesson and never make the same mistake when there's more on the line. Moving forward, the most upsetting thing is that with the 2-stroke penalty, that round went from 911 rated to 898, I would have loved to shoot over 900 each round.

Remember to triple-check your scorecards people, even when you've played 4 rounds that weekend and you're physically and mentally drained. Just do all the calculations on your phone twice or however many times it takes to leave no doubt in your mind that the score on the card is accurate.

Please excuse the rant, but if just one person can learn from my mistake, then something good can come from my small misfortune.

Found and Lost / White Dart with Dexter sharpie
« on: December 30, 2013, 06:33:32 PM »
I probably just forgot to pick it up on hole 4 at Rosedale a few weeks ago. It doesn't have my name on it since its a putter... if you see anyone with it and they can't shiw show you other Brett Mathews discs in their bag, id gladly send a reward your way for returning it...

General Banter / Unique Challenge Idea
« on: December 27, 2013, 12:25:15 PM »
I've got a unique challenge brewing in my head and rather than just trying to figure it all out myself, I figured I would get input from our community. While I haven't fully figured this out yet, I'm hoping to get input on the following:
1.)Your favorite disc course in KC
2.)Your favorite hole on that course
3.)Your favorite hole outside of your favorite course
4.)A piece of land in the KC metro that would make a unique and challenging disc golf hole. (Google Map link or coordinates preferred)

Your input is very much appreciated as I continue to formulate my thoughts.

Tournaments / 2014 Tournament Schedule?
« on: December 19, 2013, 08:55:31 AM »
I was fortunate enough to shoot a pretty good first round at the club championships and was put in a group for the 2nd round with a regular TD. He mentioned that he already had HIS tournament schedule lined up for next season and I was just curious how far in advance we could plan for tournaments.

Tournaments / Urban Tournament?
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:25:18 AM »
I came across this video:
2013 Cary (NC) Downtown Urban Open (Final Round)

Its the final card of the Urban Championships in Cary, NC.  This reminds me of a course we used to play through the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence and it was a ton of fun.
My questions are:
  • Has anyone here ever looked into doing this somewhere in the KC metro?
  • Which municipality do we think would let us set something like this up?
  • Hole ideas?
  • General tohughts?

General Banter / Rosedale, Swope or maybe even Shawnee Mission...4:30PM
« on: September 05, 2013, 08:50:12 AM »
In order to properly celebrate the NFL season kicking off tonight, I want to play a round at 4:30 or 5:00 this afternoon and be home before the game starts at 7:30.  Bag Tags on the line...

If anyone on here wants to play, or was already planning on playing and doesn't mind me "tagging" along, let me know with a response, or shoot me a text 913.58.4617

Water Works / League 8.1.13
« on: August 02, 2013, 06:57:05 AM »
First off, congratulations on the ace! I was in the group ahead of you on 12 when it hit.  We heard the chains rattle pretty hard, then heard your group's reaction.  Great stuff.

Secondly, let's pretend I left before all the scores were tallied up.  Also, let's pretend my score was not as awful as it was and I placed in the advanced division.

How would I go about knowing the final scores for advanced?
