Just wanted to wish everyone in the KCFDC a Happy Columbus Day!!!

Remember to take some time from your busy day to be thankful for the discovery of the New World. If you'll be out celebrating tonight and plan on drinking, be sure to have a designated driver or have someone call a cab for you!!!

Happy Columbus Day to all!!!

Rosedale / Changing some holes around on the back 9?
« on: October 22, 2015, 11:08:54 PM »
I saw a couple forms in place for new tee pads. One of them was near 13's green, the other on the edge of the trees behind 15's current tee location. Whatchy'all up to out there?

General Banter / Be Thankful For What You've Got
« on: October 14, 2013, 09:05:38 AM »
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac (gangsta whitewalls, TV antenna in the back, etc.)... You may not have a car at all... But, remember, brothers and sisters, you can still stand tall. Just be thankful for what you've got. ;D

I wanted to share a few pics from my recent vacation to my hometown of beautiful, sunny, Detroit, Michigan. While the Detroit metro area does have its share of quality disc golf courses (Firefighters Park, Oakland University, Stoney Creek, Toboggan, etc), the two courses located in Detroit city limits, proper, are totally f*#%ed.

This is the one basket at Detroit's Laskey Park that hadn't yet been stolen. Yes, the other seventeen baskets are gone. The basket had been broken from the inner sleeve, right at the welds. Eric Minton said I should have taken it, and I think he is probably right, but I left it for the scrappers instead since it's just a Discatcher!

What really sucked was that I had taken my best friend's younger brother up there to show him how to play, and then the thieves and vandals (once again) ruin it for everyone. This is the kind of thing Detroiters have to put up with on a regular basis-- I got to come back here to KC after it was all said and done, but Perry and his buddies have to live through this kind of crap every day --it's just sad to think about.

The next day, I went down to Belle Isle, a Detroit city park, which is a big island on the Detroit River and probably the closest thing to our Swope Park in terms of being a place where folks can hang out on the weekends, have picnics, barbecues, and recreate. In the midst of Detroit's bankruptcy proceedings, Belle Isle was recently handed over to the State of Michigan and will become a state park for at least the next 30 years. Eventually, this handover should provide Belle Isle with the money and care it needs to be restored to the gem it once was, but it remains a shell of its former self for now. Once again, I had hoped to geta round of disc golf in, but it was not meant to be.

The Belle Isle Disc Golf Course is an ongoing endeavor at the moment, or so I'm told. It sits on what used to be the Belle Isle (ball) Golf Course.

They have a pro shop, even, but it was closed and in disrepair. I thought the modified "Detroit D" logo on the door was pretty cool.

Check out the grand entryway leading onto the course!

The course actually had a few baskets; Chainstars, I believe, as well as benches. But the entire course looked like this:

So anyway, the message here is to be thankful for having such a great parks system here in KC, and great disc golf courses too. I know, we already knew that, but this drives the point home even more, at least for me. Take care of your courses! 8)

Found and Lost / Lost white Surge w/Dan Howard dye @ Cliff #4

Lefty hyzer flick just didn't quite make it past one of the thousands of trees in the fairway of #4 at Cliff. It ended up in the sh1t to the right and I couldn't find it. Cold beer or lunch at the taco truck for its safe return. ;D

Cliff Drive / Just another muddy Monday (4/15)
« on: April 15, 2013, 08:51:51 AM »
What's the game plan for this evening? Will the immaculately-manicured grounds at Cliff Drive be spared from foot traffic once again, or will league be commencing as scheduled?

Found and Lost / LOST: Orange soft cooler @ Swope
« on: April 11, 2013, 02:55:30 PM »
Left my orange soft cooler/lunchbox on the Swope clubhouse porch the other night. There was no beer left in it but it is still a handy cooler. If anyone has seen it, please let me know. Thanks!

General Banter / Cliff Drive Work Day, This SUNDAY 4/7/2013!!!
« on: March 20, 2013, 09:46:18 AM »
The workday for 4/7/2013 is going down at Cliff Drive this Sunday morning and I will be out there by 9am at the latest, probably working for 4 hours or so. Hope to see some new faces out there to help carve out these new holes.

Items we'll be focusing on include honeysuckle removal from a new hole location along the road between #9 and #17, as well as work on two additional new holes in the woods between #2 and #12. Might even finish the lengthening of #6 while we're at it.

Bonus if you can bring chainsaws, pick axes, lopping shears, etc. Gloves and safety glasses probably wouldn't hurt to bring as well. Anything to help with honeysuckle removal and carving out new fairways in the woods.

General Banter / So who's behind the course at Richards-Gebauer?
« on: February 28, 2013, 06:40:42 PM »
Was out by Richards-Gebauer today and noticed some baskets by the Army Reserve Center. The baskets looked a bit primitive and some were tilted a bit, but still cool that they have disc golf out there. Anyone from the KCFDC affiliated with this course? Is the course open to the public or is it just for the military folks?

Check this out, children. This is the sort of thing that can happen when you organize a government:

...but I would not dare touch it! ;D

Canned a 40' putt for par save on #8 at Cliff, bent down to pick the mini up and heard another loud 'clank'. Looked up and this was what I saw:

General Banter / H20 loafage at 11am?

Anyone free this morning and down for a round at Water Works? I'll be there at 11 to get some throwing in before work this afternoon if anyone cares to join.

« on: August 05, 2012, 10:31:21 PM »
I realize this is very short notice, but figured it was worth a shot. I need someone to meet me at Cliff Drive at 9am tomorrow (Monday, 8/6) to help nail some concrete forms together and level them out. Just really need an extra pair of hands. We were not able to complete the forms this weekend, and they have to get done tomorrow. The wood is already cut, and I have a framing nailer and air compressor so this shouldn't take long as there are only two forms to build.

If you are free in the morning and can come out, just meet me at the hanging basket on Hole #8 at 9am. Message me on here if you have any questions.

Found and Lost / Found Avenger at Water Works, off Hole #16
« on: July 20, 2012, 03:36:58 PM »
Found an Avenger down the hill from #16 at Water Works. No name on it. Describe the color, stamp, number of nicks and/or gouges, etc. Nobody ever guesses correctly, will this be the first time? Stay tuned...
