General Banter / Anybody want to do this thing called loafing?
« on: May 07, 2013, 08:24:41 AM »
I'm thinking either DU or Swope at around 2ish.

Respond here if you want to and have a preference. If no one responds I'm going to default to DU since it is closer to my place of work.

You can also call, text, or email me if you have my contact information.

General Banter / 1000

This is my 1000th post.

I'm excited to join this elite level of KCFDC forum member and even more excited to be a part of this community.

I also have an announcement:

Many of you already know this and I'm sure many more of you don't really even care that much but this, in all likelihood, will be my final season of KCFDC play. Emily has accepted a job in Massachusetts that is starting in August and barring the unlikely (and unfortunate) we will be moving out there in July sometime. She is in the home stretch of her PhD and assuming everything goes well the job is there waiting for us.

I just wanted to say thank you for this group of people. I feel that I've learned so much from you in the game and as a steward of the game. I'm excited for the opportunity to go elsewhere and to test what I've learned on new and exciting courses and against the venerable NEFA but I will certainly miss what the KCFDC has been.

So, I guess all I wanted to say is, thanks, and peace unto you all.

General Banter / Gratitude
« on: April 24, 2013, 10:46:14 PM »
"Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts."

-Henri Frederic Amiel

I would like to propose that we start making an even more concerted effort to thank those who do work for our courses. I know that many people already take the time to thank them personally but I think it would be cool if, when we hear about a non-DG group doing work either on our courses or in the bigger parks around them that we have a couple people (or however many) that feel moved to drop them a nice email to say thanks.

I would also like to propose a few ground rules:
1. I think we should mostly limit it to "Thank you" and "your help in the parks and the greater community is greatly appreciated". Obviously write it yourself and use your own words but I think it should be simple, sweet, and to the point.
2. If they respond and ask us for more ideas for volunteerism we connect them with either the course coordinator or one of the Club's officers. I think it makes the most sense that they would have a better idea where more work could be done and would have more authority.
3. We should also be grateful without expectation. Don't expect them to respond or be floored by our outreach. Don't expect them to offer to do more work. Our goal should merely be to let them know that it means a lot to us. They can figure out what they want from there.
4. We should also refrain from endorsing or denouncing any particular ideology. Don't like that a Church helped us out because you are a militant atheist? You don't have to say thanks and if you do don't do it in a back-handed way. Don't like that the Boy Scouts built us a bridge because of their stance on gay troopleaders and scouts? Either don't write them a message or keep it grateful and gracious. Don't like that a community organizer set up the volunteerism because all community volunteering is the work of communism? Either don't write them or keep it grateful and gracious.

I am torn on whether we should make new threads for each thing we hear about to increase visibility or keep it to this thread. I'll let people either debate that or someone with more experience than me make that call.

General Banter / Perry as of 4/21/13
« on: April 22, 2013, 08:12:05 AM »
It is set all short right now  >:(

It is still fun, but plays as a shadow of its former self.

Specific offenders include hole 2 (which should NEVER be moved from its awesome long tunnel position, and the left placement is awful), hole 5 (the signature long downhill tunnel, should be longer), hole 6 (went from a par 4 to a must birdie), and hole 17.

I'll be excited when it gets back to longish/mixed positions. Just wanted to make everyone aware so if you make the trek out there you don't think Loomis and I have been making up how awesome it is.

Was it not the putter for you?

Sell or trade them to me!

General Banter / Course Records
« on: April 09, 2013, 08:03:56 AM »
I feel like we should have some sort of repository for area course records. Maybe an official thread, or something else you Forum Moderators could dream up that I don't even know to suggest. I was thinking only 'official' records too; those that are set in league rounds or tournament rounds.

Birdland - Jake Bowen 51
Old Pike - Ken 'Tank' Franks 40
dubs Ken 'Tank' Franks and Kevin Vetch 37
Cliff Drive - Matt Orum 45
Water Works - Todd Henry 39
Blue Valley (Big) - Avery Jenkins 53
                  (Little) - Will Schusterick 44
Swope - dubs Todd Henry and Otto Spiers 36
PHill - Dean Uhlman and Andy Lewis 40
Wyco - Dave Hemmeline 45
Blackthorn - Joe Hesting 47
Prairie Center - Dave Hemmeline 40

General Banter / Perry Review
« on: March 29, 2013, 03:15:48 PM »
Is Perry in the KC Metro area? Because if it is I think I have a new favorite KC course. It is a wonderful challenge of elevation, tunnels, ponds, rock walls, and ditches taller than two CDs!

If anyone wants to see some pics I posted a few of them to my twitter (@cooperarnold).

I'm very interested in getting something going out there on Saturdays when there aren't tournaments going on. This would be a great skins, doubles, wolf, really whatever, course.

Barter Town / Selling or Trading: 11x Aviars
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:24:06 PM »
I've got 2 11x Aviars (from the F2 batch they found a couple years ago) and an old Sanny that is quite similar IMO.

I'm not going to try to list a price or condition. I'd rather just meet up sometime, play some disc, and let you test drive them.

I also have a black 12x tourney stamped KC for sale or trade, for anyone interested in the rare colors.

And less, rare, an orange one. That one too is available.

Barter Town / Want to trade for:
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:22:07 PM »
Any Latitude, Westside, or DD plastic. I'm doing a little more experimentation and rather than buy every mold I'd like to see if I can move some plastic to try some more out.

I'm especially interested in trying the XXX and the Trident.

I have mostly Innova to trade, but a lot of random stuff.
