Tournaments / Re: Wide Open 2016

I enjoyed everything about this year....except for my putting :-[

Thanks for all the hard work Dick, Club, and volunteers.

I'll take lunch over a players party anyday.  Tony Todd's tacos were amazing!
Loved the course selection.

Only Con:  We did need a scoreboard for the Finals.  I had no idea how close it got after hole 16 (7th hole of final 9).  If McBeth doesn't get lucky and slam into the tree right next to the basket on 17, and Eagle makes his putt, we could have been looking at a sudden-death playoff.  But nobody had any idea what the scores were.  Unless you were checking your phone, and that was delayed.  Scoreboards are awesome.  Even if it is just a Permanent marker written on Jack Lowe's back 8)

Man, what another great weekend for this event!  And No Rain during play either!
Just a few Cicadas to deal with :o

Thanks to all my team members on the West Side for being very responsive and clear on when they could play and couldn't.  That helps me out more than you know.  The hardest part is just making sure you have enough players show up to fill the matches.

What a great competition!  There were so many good battles and upsets on the course.  Back and forth on every hole.  I saw 100 foot upshots thrown in to steal a point and push the momentum one way, then incredible jump putts, and putts through trees, even off of trees to push a point to the other side.  1 win turned the other way is all it would have taken and the East side leaves with the trophy.  Great players on both sides of the line, and as long as this event takes place, it will always be really close and competitive.

Thank you East-siders for bringing your best!
Thank you Dresser for all your work on the Liberty course with the lines and design.
Thanks Tracy Walker for taking care of the shirts, $, scorecards, scoreboard, painted lines at Lakeside, and getting this event started!

Last, Thank You West Side for bringing home a victory for the 3rd straight year!

Bobby Villarreal wins MVP for the West, going 3-0 on the weekend.  I am pretty sure Bobby is undefeated in his 4 years of playing.  He drives the West Side BUS!

I like the idea of changing the Saturday Round next year to Best Shot Doubles.  That way you get to play a full round on day one, and it leaves the quicker Alt. Shot Round for Day 2, when you are playing 2 rounds on the same day.  If nobody has any objections, then the East side can host Best shot Doubles next year on Saturday.

See you all at the Wide Open!

« on: May 28, 2015, 03:33:33 pm »

Hasn't been that for about 8 years Joe, though us "old guard" wanted to have it so that every course would have a disc that was part of the KCFDC, but alas the people that started this Disc Golf Day don't run it today!  :-)

Well, dang.  I guess it has been awhile for me.  Do you think my sweet 2-time-Ace ROC with "Hole 3 of Rosedale" printed on it is worth anything?

Say, what sort of disc is it that one gets for coming to this? I know it's coming up on Saturday, but my curiosity is killing me.

(I'm still at the stage where every player's pack or goody bag is like a little Christmas and birthday rolled up in one. . .)

Always been a Sweet color stamp (of a hole on one of our courses) Roc in the past.

Mo - Waterworks

Kansas - 1. Perry (but it's a little out of the way, and bring tick spray),  2. Lakeside (Still a bit out of your way) 3. Rosedale (Easiest to get to, 2 courses to play if you have time, and you can't pass up a Z-Man @ Joe's BBQ)

Liberty, MO - Stocksdale Park / Re: OB lines and rules
« on: May 27, 2015, 10:59:53 am »
If there is a question it should be a group call...how is this any different from a normal round/league?  This isn't a sanctioned event.

It's a little different than normal.  You can't have a group call when you have 2 Missouri players vs 2 Kansas players.  Who breaks the tie? We need a Canadian Volunteer with no allegiance to either state to come be a Marshall.

Really,
I think the tall grass has to be played OB, or it makes some of those holes just stupid.  And the tall grass doesn't come into play to decent golfers on 12 of the holes anyway.

Oh, you mean Chris "just another reason you will lose" Newburg.  My bad on the typo, Chris.  Don't worry, your name will be spelled correctly on the trophy.

Yo East Side! Need your roster, course choice, and time of play for first round on Sunday the 7th.  These must be in by this Saturday the 30th.  2-week notice rule.  Also, Tracy needs your shirt sizes.

Remember 16 qualifiers, 4 captains picks.  16 can play at a time.  I know you guys are trying to be all sneaky over there with your 8 captains picks ::)

Thanks to everyone that came out to Wyco last night to play!!  I hope you all had a good time, win or lose.  It was fun to watch, and I witnessed a lot of competitive golf.  I wish I could put you all on the team!

17 people out, so because we had an odd #, the #1 seed, #16, and #17, played a 9-hole skins match with no carry-over to decide the winner, while everyone else played a 9-hole battle of match-play.  There were 3 matches that required sudden-death playoffs of up to 3 extra holes.

Here is the bracket that was randomly drawn up for fair play:

We only had 3 qualifying spots left, but since so many showed up, I decided to make it 4, and only leave myself 3 Captain's picks for reserves.

So congrats to...
Chris Newberg
Das Loomis
Nick Winklebauer
Tracy Walker

I will be in contact with everyone over the next couple weeks to get a feel of who can play all 3 rounds, just 1 day, and so on.  Then I will have a better feel of if I need the reserves and who they will be.

West Team
1.Arturo Eeezzy Villareal
2.Bobby McPutts Villareal
3.Cooper Fear the Beard Arnold
4.Kelly Back to the Best Side Babbit
5.Just Joe Hesting
6.Isaac SilkySmooth Heinen

12.Mouthy Mike D
13.Steady Steve T

1 MORE TIME:

Tonight is your last chance to make the West.

Bracket Match-Play

5:30 cut/off to sign-up. WYCO

Since it isn't a league, but I will be pulling people away from Rosedale,
I am going to charge $1 to play, that goes to the club.

You can make any side bets you want to with your competition.

If you are running late, you can call me (913-620-5881) and I will put you down. But if you are not on your tee by 6:00 sharp, you will forfeit.

As of now, the rain is supposed to drop to 30% at 5. The 20 mph winds will remain ;D
If it should change for the worse, I will cancel on here and Facebook Kansas City Flying Disc Club page by 4:00pm to give everyone an early warning.

I expect to see all you west-siders there....

What time/s sunday??

Also tracy's guidelines say there has to be 16, or 16.5pts needed to win or retain the title... what if there are so many ties that the highest score is less than 16?? Nobody wins??

8 matches in Alt shot with all ties =  .5 per match to each team  =  4-4
8 matches in Best shot with all ties= .5 per match to each team =  4-4
16 Singles matches with all ties =  .5 per match to each team    =  8-8
Total       =  16-16  West side retains trophy on a tie

   *32 Total Matches
*Only possible to come out with exactly 32 points one way or the other.  There is 1 point per match, whether it is being awarded to 1 team or split between them.

That's Math Matty :o
