love it.  Doing everything I can to make it this year.  See you the weekend before.

Is Swope going to be the gold layout, or just regular?

Are you trying to advertise your tournaments on the KC Wide Open Post Greenwood?

nope, just illustrating how two similar events in cost can result in a different balance in player packs/payouts for the amateurs that don't "get it".

But if you're interested in the First Class Challenge, I'm sure Jack will be happy to give you a ride.  He'll be here along with everybody else to defend his enormous skins win, which he can also tell you all about.  Point being, I don't need to promote it on here.  People in KC already know.  BTW, I'm Park Hill class of '89 and the 'rents still live there, so technically I'm from there. :P

I think one reason turnout is lower is because of the market saturation.  There's too many events too close together and very few people can play every weekend.

The reason KC is notorious for weaker am payouts is becuase they are turning a profit off your entry fees.  Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is.  They charge retail for your player pack discs, where some TD's don't.  It's simple math...$8 disc, they charge you $15 out of your entry, there's a $7 profit per person per disc for DGW or the club or whoever...

So let's say you got 3 discs and for arguements sake let's use a nice round number, say a $5 markup.  That's $15/player times 50 players would be $750 that they profit, rather than payout.

Des Moines' philosophy is to cover the costs of the player pack - that is we spread it evenly amongst all players that receive one.  Instead of turning a profit, we return that in the form of payout to the players.  So the higher the am turnout, the better the payout will be (more to spread the cost amongst)

I'm not saying one way is better than the other, we all have different reasons for running tournaments.

I will mention though, that the problem our method creates, is burnout.  When you do something for nothing, it gets old pretty quickly.

Thanks to LSDiscs and all that helped prepare the courses.  Down Under is looking better than ever.  I threw a magic off the tee 14 times and with some focus and patience, it worked out pretty well.  If you get greedy down there, you will pay.  It was nice to finish off the day with one more magic(al) shot going in.

Didn't think I was going to make it, but I'm glad I did.  I thoroughly enjoyed playing with Chris from Arkansas, this kid is going to be damn good (plus he's a lefty), Brian Gaskill, Chris Timko, and Kevin Manning.  All great dudes & great competitors.  I had great vibes all day long.

There will always be debate over a course that doesn't test all skills.  Chalk it up to mere difference of opinions.  IMO, DU is a great compliment to the course up top.   I love the new baskets, new pin placements, all in all just a great course that offers something that all of us don't get to play every weekend.  When you combine DU with a round up top in an event, I strongly feel that all of a disc golfers skills are tested, including their mental fortitude.  And after several years of playing, I tend to really like events that offer two courses in one park.

hahaha, you two cock jugglers......I tell ya, didn't I just see you in Columbia Dick?   Maybe if you guys had some courses worth playing......lol, j/k...

Yeah, I've advertised a few league appearances on weekends that I'm going to see the family, and I never seem to be able to get away.  This Saturday will probably end up in a similar way.

I did play worlds last year.......

Timko, you got some catching up to do, before you can talk sh1t to me Mr. One or Two local tourney's a year. ;D

I'll echo what Jack said about BV.  It's just not that practical to play a round there and then somewhere else in the afternoon.  Rounds there are epic.  They take more than an hour to wind down from, IMO.

Only way I see BV getting used for this event is if you go with the 3 course option and have the ams play with tee times on Saturday and the pros on Sunday.  I don't like that format though, I'd rather play 4 fun courses.

as an out of towner am, I would definately vote for a 3 or 4 course option.

You guys are like us up here in Des Moines--too many great courses to use only a couple.  You have your other course specific tournaments for that.  This is the KC Wide Open, whether it's a C Tier or an NT it should be your "showcase KC courses" event, IMO.

I also vote that the 4 courses should be Swope, Cliff, Wyco, and Waterworks.

So who is merchandising this event DGW, or DD?
