Beginners / High School kids
« on: May 07, 2013, 10:56:54 PM »
I'm a teacher with a small class. I have two classes and the students spend 2 1/2 hours a day for 2 years with me, FUN, FUN ,FUN. ;D
At the end of every year, my second year students have a BBQ. This is my last 2 year program, I'm switching programs. Me and the kids throw disc around all the time and we have a nice grassy area we throw in.

 Here's the deal:
I would like to have a mini tournament for all my students this year to finish off my last year in this program. I'm going to buy each kid a disc and was thinking a mid-range , maybe a Mako. I'll grill some dogs some time in there.

Would Swope be a good course?  Putter vs. Mid-range?  No more then 20 of us, so would a small tourney be OK with the regular players? Should I have a few experienced players to help?

If any one has any idea's , I'm open.
I think the kids will have fun and who knows what will come of this.
Thanks
Mick

I drink from a super micro brewery called Motorhead Brewery . They only make three kinds, Burn-out Stout, Super Honey Bee and my favorite 30 Weight a nice smooth brown with Cascades' dry hopped.  They started back in the early 90's with help from a micro named Flying Dog from Aspen. Now if you haven't drank beer with the hop oil still in it , you need to try it, the buzz is different.  I grew up in St. Louis and drank the local most of my life. Then one day I was skiing in Keystone and had an Avalanche, like sex you can't go back.

But, I will drink what is on hand or free. I do like (Coors) Blue Moon and most Boulevards.

I can't make it every Thursday but might every other week. Hopefully it will grow and be a good night.

I'm a new player and do practice my putting. At work , I will put a trash can in the shop and throw with the kids. I also live close to Legacy and hit 9 or the practice basket. CD showed me  a way that works for me and it does. I watched every video I could find on you tube some helped others did not. During my practice time , I found out that 1 putter didn't work for me. I use three, 1 flat , 1  hyser and 1 from 20 + feet. Works for me.
Now, , I am a musician and know that bad practice makes bad play. My long game sucks. I know I'm old and fat but when I go and throw all my disc most of the time the drivers all go the same, not that far. I am afraid I am making bad habits. I can not break some of my guitar playing habit because there are years at work there, habits I wish I didn't have.

By The way , when I was out throwing 50 feet as a new player, a nice young man came over to me and showed me how to double my throw, politely.

I'm too old and fat to climb any fences and would pay the price of a disc to keep from having to .

#1 problem is the disc course is free and used by the public. When people start to cause excessive wear and tear on public property , the city has the right to close or change the property. I have seen where a small percent causes pain for the larger majority. Not everyone on the course belongs to this forum, so some of this is a on deaf ears. Remember when you or some one you see is vandalizing city property, you could be causing others to loose the privilege to use the park.

sorry for the 2cents

I'm a brewer, all grain but when I drink off the shelf I drink what fits the mold. I really like porters and browns although I make a killer honey wheat ( high octane).  Have always like Odell's 90 Shilling, went to the brewery last summer, cool place.

Oh and free beer is always the best  ;D

I see that stuff all the time out on the course but I don't think it has anything to do with " The Harlem Shake".   ;)

I started DG to help lose weight. Now I'm losing weight to play disc golf.  The cold weather, a cold and the holidays have slowed me down but I started back today with a work-out. I might give these a try. I know green tea is great for weight lose. Also a buddy is into working out and uses Raspberry Ketone's, I haven't tried that yet.
I too wish I had started sooner but can't look back. Last summer, I lost 18 pounds from July to August, not bad. I'm ready for this summer.

Young Park - Blue Springs / I Apologize
« on: December 02, 2012, 06:08:24 PM »
I played Young Park a few weeks ago and hated it. We couldn't find the pads or the pins. Put one in the water, every other shot was in the stickers. BAD,BAD,BAD. Well I told people I knew how horrible it was.

I talked to Dick down at DGW and he told me how to play it. Today was beautiful and I slowed down and threw short to keep it straight and guess what, it worked. I actually did well and started to like the course. I did not play all 18 but have a new way of looking at this course. Not wanting to say this but it almost ,kind of,  maybe  suits my style of playing, maybe a little , maybe. I want to play it again with more time and see how I do.
Anyway I'm sorry for bad mouthing this course.

Owner found. It was buried in the grass. I was looking for one of mine. With  the sun going down it makes it hard to find them.
