Beginners / Re: New Players League - Monday's
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:40:06 AM »
What a fantastic night at Rosedale.  60 people were in attendance for this weeks version of New Players Night.  Phil Arthur, Paige Pierce, Paul McBeth, Paul Ulibarri, Devan Owens, Ricky Wysoki, Jeremy Koling, Catrina Allen, and Brittany Blair were there to answer questions and throw some signed disc.  After the clinic was over people either stayed and got some one on one time with the pros or created a card and went out to play a few holes.  Some of the ladies even got to throw a few holes with Paige, Catrina and Brittany.

The signed discs (blizzard plastic, Nukes, and others) that were thrown at the demonstration are for sale.  If anyone is interested in on or two you can give me a call, 785-393-1555, I will let you know where you can get those.

At this time there is talk of another BIG name coming in next week but until that is finalized the plan is to make cards and play a round of golf.

Also spotted on the course were Sarah Hokum, (PDGA Board President and commissioner) Rebecca Duffy, and (PDGA Executive Director) Brian Graham.

Rosedale will be the place to be tonight.

There will be a few others showing up.  Added to the already stacked list will be Devan Owens and Ricky Wysoki.

I will be bringing cards for those people that want to get on the course.

This is an unscheduled clinic.  I did not have time to get information out to all the courses and stores in town but I am not going to say no when an opportunity like this comes up.  If you had planned on getting out tonight great.  Things will be a little different tonight because getting some advice from this caliber of players will raise your game more than playing a round and trying to figure it out on your own.  Like always we may have time to get out on the course and put into practice what has been passed on.  If you live on the East side of town, and don't usually come out, take the little extra time to get to Rosedale so you don't miss this.

Rich, I don't make mistakes.  I just figured you are such a decent guy I would take 7 strokes off your score, but now that you question me I am only going to take 2 off next week.

Yes, they are handicapped scores.  That is what I will be posting this year.

What a fantastic night at Rosedale Park last night for the official start of New Players League. 13 of the 21 people that started the round a little after 5:30 were first time players to the league.  Only two of those twenty-one left early for different reasons.  There was an ace on hole 7, but we are a free league with no ace fund so half of zero is still zero.  Tag 2 was the low tag and Matt successfully defended it.  Chris Millsap walked away with an Elite X Stratus for CTP.

Yes, tags are in play and enough people with tags to make it worth while.

What a great night at Rosedale for the last unofficial round of new players league.  Yes, next week, April 2, it is for real.  Some of the scores were ridiculous but that just shows a lot of improvement has been made over the mild winter by people.  The 80% handicap based on last year didn't hurt either.

We are going to have a great year with sponsorships from KCFDC, Dynamic Discs & Disc Golf World.  What does that mean?  Come out and see for yourself.

Expect the first mini clinic in May.  They may start out with top local players but I do have a commitment from a national tour player to stop in for a night.

No, I will be at the course to get people started at 5:00 next monday.  It will be like that until next month when the days are longer.  When leagues officially start, the time will probably get moved back to 5:30 depending on daylight.  It will always be on Monday, but it will be moved to Swope when there is a mini clinic planned and there will be plenty of notice when that happens.

New players league has been moved back to Monday nights.  I will be out at the course Monday, March 12 at 5:00pm to start things off unofficially.  I will be getting people out as fast as I have a card to start them.  Yes, the sun will be setting around 7:30 but we still have approximately 30 minutes of twilight to finish the round or, because it is unofficial, decide to call it a night.  We may even just start off with some random draw doubles.
We had some great numbers last year and I hope to build on that this year.  I have some ideas that should make this year even better than last year, but the only thing I can post right now is more mini clinics.

What time do you plan on starting?  I can probably make it.
