Tournaments / Re: ICE BOWL 2014 - January 25th and 26th
« on: January 24, 2014, 10:17:33 PM »

Some important final details about Ice Bowl weekend:

We will be setup for check-in or day of registration at 8 am.
If you are pre-registered and playing afternoon round, please make sure you check-in by 12:30 pm.

Unlimited mulligans are for sale to be used during the first round only. Their use is highly encouraged as all mulligan proceeds go to our charities. In fact, we challenge you to buy an Ice Bowl Championship!

1 round and a final nine will be played during the weekend.
WHEN you play that first full round is up to you. You choose your group and choose to play either Saturday or Sunday.

You have 3 Tee Time options for Saturday:
(if you pre-registered, you chose a time)

    1. Up Top at 9 am - Shotgun start
    2. Up Top at 1 pm - Shotgun start
    3. Down Under 8am – 3pm: Flex start

.... or instead of playing Saturday, you can play your 1 round on Sunday.

You need to post an 18-hole score on either of Rosedale Park’s courses to qualify to play the nine-hole final round.

    Final 9 on Sunday
Sunday, 8am – 10 am: Flex start: Top or Down Under

    Also on Sunday:
Chili contest and chili potluck lunch
    Beer and music
    CTP and Mini Golf
    Raffle

Come out for the fun and festivities on Sunday- whether you're playing or not. Hang out for an hour or all day.

Remember this event is all about supporting our charities- Harvesters and Bishop Sullivan Center- and to have fun with our disc golf family!

We broke last year's record for Ice Bowl pre-registrations - 234.

Now let's break our record for donations to our charities!

The KCFDC has set its charitable goal high this year—$10K for our historic beneficiaries: Bishop Sullivan Center's Saint James Place Food Pantry and Harvesters: the Community Food Network.

To give us a chance to reach this goal, please download the Sponsorship Form and the Pledge Sheet.
http://www.icebowlhq.com/docs/kcib14sponsor.pdf
http://www.icebowlhq.com/docs/kcpledgesheet.pdf

The Sponsorship Form is four pages long: the first page describes the mission, pages two and three include the sponsorship options and a sponsor agreement, and page four offers a brief description of the KCFDC and of disc golf.

We are making the final push to have the courses looking great for our out of town guests and next weekend’s Kansas City Wide Open.  Any amount of time you can give will be appreciated whether is an hour or or several hours.  There are little things that you can do like tee signs, putting up new flags or paint OB lines, help spread mulch.  How about doing some weed whacking or clearing a pile of debris?

It’s all happening this weekend: Saturday June 8 at Rosedale or Water Works and Sunday June 9 at Swope.

The KCFDC will bring lunch and beer for all volunteers!

Saturday June 8  @ Water Works

Weed and mulch peace sign on #4
    Clean out trenches on #5
    Clean up fairway #9
    Remove downed limbs
    Rake out drainage beds
    Replace flags
    Paint O.B. lines
    Stain marquee and map

Please bring gloves, rakes,  shovels, hoes, chainsaw if you have them.
Larry Childers from the Briar Cliff Community Alliance will also be in attendance at Waterworks.  There are quite a few improvements being spoken of for Waterworks.  Please introduce yourself and let Larry know how much you enjoy the park if you have a chance!

Saturday June 8  @ Rosedale

It’s a Weed Wacking Party at Rosedale!

Please bring Weed Wackers, gas and string. We’ll be starting at 8:30 am.  A few people will also be spreading dust in front of a few tee pads and we will have the shovels and buckets for that task. Out of Bounds Lines will be marked that day also.

Click here for the full Weed Wacking Party Plan

You can still experience the excitement of KCWO without playing!
Volunteers are an important of any event, help us run a smooth event and represent our city! It's a great way to be a part of the most exciting disc golf action in KC all year.
(The volunteer party after the event is pretty awesome too)

Sponsorship Opportunities:

We are seeking sponsorship support from both the Kansas City area and the disc golf business communities. It’s our goal to make each player’s trip to Kansas City as memorable as possible and to present the Wide Open as professionally as possible. While we’re seeking cash sponsorship, there are a number of products or services that we’d be pleased to receive in lieu of cash. Sponsorship money will be used to defray our infrastructure and advertising expenses, to augment the professional prize purse, and to enhance the players visit to the Kansas City metropolitan area. The sponsorship levels, which start from $30, are listed within our brochure which you can download and view here: http://kcwideopen.com/_media/2013_wide_open_sponsorship_form.pdf

While we are primarily seeking sponsorship for this years event, we are interested in finding partners who might be interested in staying with us through 2013 and beyond. If none of these options fit your needs, we’re happy and willing to work with you to find a mutually beneficial level of sponsorship.

KC has no pros. No one practices here. I told LaRon that just the other day. No one has a practice regiment.

Speaking of LaRon, he has stepped up and has been out at Rosedale every Monday night at 5 to work with anyone willing to put in the time to practice. Come out if you can but be ready to work. There is a regiment he will teach you.

He is a great coach/mentor - in fact he was Eric McCabes. So far I have been shocked that more people have not come out to take advantage of this opportunity.

Disc Golf Topics for Women / Girls Night Out - Mondays at Rosedale!
« on: March 29, 2013, 12:59:38 PM »
Girls Night Out’ is a night for local women who love disc golf to get together to play and encourage one another and just have fun.
5:30 for the first few weeks- then we will move to a 6:00 start time.

It’s free to play, scoring is optional and you can play as few or as many holes as you want, whether it’s 5 holes, 12, or 18. There are women at all levels of play from beginner to advanced. It’s all about getting out and having fun with other ladies that enjoy disc golf. Prizes given out every week. Discs are available as loaners if you don't have your own.

Last year we also included several instructional clinics with some of the top Women’s Pro players such as Catrina Ulibarri and Paige Pierce.
This year we've got more planned... 2012 Womens' World Champion, Sarah Hokum will be here in June!

Guys, help us support Women’s Disc Golf by telling your girlfriends, wives, sisters, daughters to come out and play with some cool chicks Monday nights at Rosedale!

The Recreational/New Players League is also at Rosedale on Monday nights.

Dynamic Discs will be holding free disc golf clinics at 5 PM EVERY Monday before both leagues begin.

For the first league of the season, Monday April 1 , Laron "Whoman" Harris will be there and really go in depth on the strategies of disc golf and how to approach everything from your discs to the shots you're about to throw.

For those new players that haven't heard of Laron Whoman Harris he is a Professional Disc Golfer that played at the highest level around the Midwest and won many PDGA events. He is also a great teacher of the game and Eric McCabe credits Laron as being his Mentor growing up in the sport.

Also Innova Pro Ken "Tank" Franks will be doing a few clinics also later in the month and I will let you know when that will happen. Ken is another great teacher and his "On Tour" experience is priceless.
