Young Park - Blue Springs / Just a thought...
« on: June 26, 2013, 11:47:29 AM »
I'm finally almost ready to start playing disc golf again after breaking a leg two months ago.  While I was out, I had a few thoughts with regards to this league and the Legacy league.  For whatever reason, we don't get very good turnouts at either one of these leagues.  A few reasons are probably as follows:

1. Continuous shift in who is running the league.  I never see scores posted for either league, so I'm sure some people don't even know that a league is happening or has been happening.
2. Distance - pretty far east side of the city
3. Legacy - Friday nights (IMO) is just not a good league night.  It's the weekend man!  Many people have Friday night plans with friends and family.  This is my main reason for not ever having stepped up to run this league on a consistent basis.

So, I have a few questions:

1. Why do YOU think these leagues are not well attended?
2. What do YOU think we can do to get more attendance?
3. Would YOU be interested in attending an alternating Legacy/Young Wednesday night league?

Now that I'm married, have a normal schedule, and have a leg that will allow me to get back out on the course, I'd be interested in running an alternating league as mentioned above...but I want to get everyone's thoughts on it first and see what it would take to make this happen.  SO.....let's hear it.

General Banter / New Course Potential in Prairie Village
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:52:49 AM »
A fellow co-worker of mine who lives in PV sent me this link and thought I'd share.  Does anyone know who put this in the minds of PV parks and rec?  Or, is disc golf actually gaining traction in our parks and rec departments just by word of mouth?

It looks to be just a little dinker course, but that's how it all begins!  I'll never forget my first days at William Yates!

P.S. Anyone who has a Facebook account should go to bat on these negative disc golf comments below the article...

General Banter / Innova Tern - Pre Release Holiday
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:45:28 PM »
Happened across an innova Tern this past weekend at a random sporting goods store. This is the holiday version that I believe was only released to innova retailers as a limited run. This is a silvery white, metal flake, max weight, only thrown once with no ink disc that I would be willing to part with. It is too flippy for me, I can tell by throwing it once. eBay has these going for $60-$100. Anybody want to make an offer?

Let me know if you want a pic, send me your phone number and I will text it to you.

Thanks for looking.

Barter Town / 11x KC Pro Plastic wanted
« on: September 14, 2012, 11:24:16 AM »
I recently acquired an 11x KC pro teebird and love it. I'm looking for any other 11x KC pro only plastic. I've got some 10x plastic including a nearly mint 10x eagle and a nearly mint 10x banshee. My apologies as I do have my name and number inked on the inner rim. I've never been much of a wall hanger guy and would be willing to trade for some good throwers. I also have a red rancho big bird roc, 173 with no ink, slightly used. Also an 11x whippet slightly used with ink.

Needing some 11x champ KC pro plastic. Who's interested in a trade?!

I've got more plastic too than just collectors, just ask.

General Banter / And the sandbagging continues
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:37:48 PM »
Being that I won't be able to play am worlds next year, I am making the trek to Emporia this weekend for the Dynamic Discs open; just so I can see what I'll be missing next year (I'm getting married the same weekend - no way I'm missing that!).  Anyway, I was looking through the field of those who are pre-registered and I saw something that baffled me.

The last advanced tournament I played was the Kansas City Wide Open.  I've only played one tourney since, but I played Open and did somewhat decent.  I felt that taking a tie for second in the KCWO in the advanced field was good enough reason to move up and challenge myself a bit more...I digress...but, the individual who won the KCWO in advanced (by 8, yes 8 strokes) is still playing advanced this upcoming weekend.  I'm sure many of you know who I'm alluding to, but I did just a little quick digging...

5 first place finishes this year in advanced (4 second place finishes) & 14th in AM worlds.  I didn't look at the scoring differential in anything else, but the KCWO was a blowout.  977 rated, and I would assume he will probably win this weekend in the advanced field.  This doesn't affect me since I'm playing open, but I do feel a bit bad for those playing advanced.  I mean, come on.  I understand not wanting to cash before playing AM worlds next year IF it was going to be your first AM worlds or something to that effect.  But it won't be for him!!! I don't know, this is probably just a meaningless rant and feel free to mark as read and move on.  Again preaching to the choir here, but doesn't sandbagging just bug you too!?!?!

Barter Town / FOR SALE: Cabelas XPG Pro Series Angler Pack
« on: August 14, 2012, 09:17:10 AM »
As many of you have seen, I've been playing the past year with a converted disc golf bag. I got the idea off of DGCR and have had really good luck with this bag. It has ample storage, a "putter pocket" up top, and can hold probably 20 discs in the lower compartment. As I said, I've had it for a year and it retails at $69.99. I'd probably let it go for $35.

Selling because I now have a grip-which unfortunately doesn't have equal storage but is a bit more of a sturdy bag. PM me if you are interested.

General Banter / Grip bag modification
« on: August 07, 2012, 09:57:09 AM »
This may be a silly question, but is there any issue with modifying a grip bag? I have a contact who would be able to embroider my name and PDGA number on it, but didn't want to get in trouble if I ever saw @water and he gave me trouble for modifying the bag.

Again, I don't think it's a problem and may be a stupid question, but thought if ask everyone's input.
