Legacy Park - Lee's Summit / Re: Legasy league
« on: July 24, 2013, 08:01:24 AM »
I'm fairly new to Disk Golf and I want to join a local league, having said that I'm busy weekday evenings and was looking to get experience and meet new people. I'm looking at Legasy Friday nights and was wondering the details about it. I hear its doubles (not really clear on how that works) and I was curious how a novice player like myself would fair in a non rec league. I would love to play players better than me but at the same time I don't wanna get killed out there. Any details would be appreciated...thanks for your time!

Both Legacy (on fri) and Pleasant Hill (sun) leagues are random draw doubles.  Meaning you will draw for a partner (at least once, right Kelly  ;)) and then it's best shot doubles, take the best shots between you and your partner.  There will be some really strong players out there but there are several guys that are in a similar situation and new to the game and competing in leagues.  The most important thing to remember is to have fun and try not to drag your partner down.  Last time I played Legacy league, my partner and I won, but we probably used 17/18 of my putts and 16/18 of my drives.  My partner still helped us win, by either laying up so I could run it and he had 2 park jobs on some of the shorter holes.  If you want to get better, meet some new people, and have fun you need to get out there.

I believe you tied for the win there Eric...  ;)

Yates is partially my fault as well, John.  I'm hopeful that we can do another workday this fall as it has been over a year since we had the last one.  Let's figure out a date once the weather gets a bit cooler and cut back some of the overgrowth.  I think the wooden tee signs are a hopeless cause.  It is evident that several have met the wrath of a baseball bat since they were installed.  Several are no longer existent.

Honestly I'd like to play it maxed out (believe that's how you've got it). Been out of commission for a few months and don't know the last time I played 11 or 17 long.

I presume there's still league tonight?  What time are you sending out cards, Jack?

Not bad Murph.  If you birdie over 60% of the holes played, I'd say you're playing pretty good  8)

When I put .15 line on my Husqvarna, it can cut down trees.

Where was the .15 line when we needed it BP?

New chains look good!!! Thanks Eric for getting this together.

New chains look great!!!  The entire course has new chains aside from holes 10 and 11 which were ok to begin with.  We also did quite a bit of trim work on the course as well.  The majority of locust trees were "de-thorned" from the ground up to about 5 or 6 feet.  We also took weedeaters to holes 10, 12, 13 and 15.  Eric trimmed around the bridge on 10 and 12.  The creekbed on 13 was trimmed down where you typically land if you hit one of the first trees.  On 15, we trimmed on the fairway side of the creek from the bridge all the way to the long pin.  Kelly was nice enough to bring his mower as well to mulch over it.  Course looks good everyone, get out and play it!!!

I have a generator, but I havent used in a while.  I will try to get it running and bring it.  I suppose any trimmers, hand, battery or gas, would work too.  Didn't mean to discriminate against other trimmers.

Ha, Eric don't kill yourself here.  I don't think a generator is necessary.  Between you, Jake and I, we should have enough gas powered equipment to make this happen.  No worries.

The reason I ask is that Eric mentioned electric trimmers.  I personally have a gas powered trimmer thank you very much.  But for those who come out with an electric trimmer, I don't want them to be sadly disappointed.  And P.S., there's a difference between a weedeater and a trimmer. . .

Eric,

Are there plug-ins for electric trimmers out there?  I'm hopeful that I can make it out.  Thanks for posting!

Hey if we're throwing in Cubby aces to this thread, I hit #9 at Legacy last Friday night with a turnover JK Pro Aviar (over the trees).  Jake Bowen, Brian Palmer and Dalton as witnesses.  But I HIGHLY doubt we want to start throwing Cubby's into this.  It might get a little....busy.
