Swope / Re: Swope League 2013
« on: July 03, 2013, 08:09:14 am »
Awesome league last night!  Perfect weather and a pretty solid turnout.  Congrats to Tank for the W.  Pins were set short with ace run opportunities.  It made for some low scores and good times.  I'm so glad to be back playing leagues again.  Don't break a leg folks, it's not fun - especially with great summer temps like we're experiencing now.  Ekolk has the scores, so I'll leave that to him.  Thanks for running league man!

Don't forget - Superclass round at Swope Thursday morning at 9:00!

Thank-you all so much for the great replies.  I am leaning toward Swope as my GPS has 470 as the quickest route.  Hope to see some of you if not there but in Emporia.

PS Every disc in my bag is green so should make for an interesting round. :)

That won't be an issue at Swope.

I'm surprised that more people don't like the chainstars.  The width appears to be wider than most baskets to catch putts that are a little off center.  The top cage is friendly to discs.  You can get them in virtually any color.  The only issue I've had with them is kicking a few putts straight back out if I hit the center pole to hard.  I guess that's just the indian though and not the arrow.  It appears that I putt a little TOO hard at times.  8)

if you're on I-70, and want shade, Wilbur Young aka blue springs is 4 minutes south of the highway on Adams Dairy Road, and play is fast as there are some very short tee pads, the course is well marked, clean, and very fun to play in under 90 minutes. cheapest gas in kc and a myriad of food options available at the exit also.

Not to mention little elevation.  However, I wouldn't throw anything in the color green....

Jack, is the course still set long?  Will you be playing the long pins?

EVENT CANCELLED!!!!  Sorry

Anybody noticed how this cancellation was done by Milenorthkmco but the original posting was done by MileNorthKCMO.

What up?

I was in the shop this past weekend and the event is indeed cancelled.  I'm not sure why another user name was created, but the store owner did tell me the event was cancelled.

The rest of the conversation left me with a sour taste; I probably won't be back...and I'm going to leave it at that.

Apologies, I must have overlooked the scores being posted.  I'm usually pretty up-to-date on the league postings and have been watching everything since I broke my leg to see who all has been playing and where.  I wasn't trying to "blast" anyone, nor am I trying to oust any league directors.  I'm just seeing what can be done to increase participation in these leagues.  What is it going to take to get our turnouts to match that of WW, PC, etc.  There are clearly leagues that kill it in terms of participation.  Some of that has to do with the course itself, but a lot of it has to do with other factors.  Legacy and Young are both a long haul from downtown, so I think that is the biggest issue here.

Anyway, I think that Legacy on Friday nights is a challenge for a lot of people.  It's just a tough sell as it is the beginning of the weekend.  Maybe the alternating league was a bad idea if turnouts are as good as deadhead84 claims they are.  My bad, just trying to spur some DISCussion.  I love playing Legacy (unlike most people), and wish we could make it a popular course in KC.  Sure, some holes are repetitive, but it's not a gimme course and for whatever reason that is engrained in everyone's mind far as I can tell.  For those who haven't taken a good look around out there, there is A LOT of good land (even a picturesque waterfall) and if we can get some people out to build this course's reputation, maybe more things will happen.  Eric is certainly getting the ball rolling with LSPR, I just want to keep it rolling and turn BOTH of these leagues into something big.

How much does it cost to plant a few new trees?  I know that hole is still sloped to add a little difficulty, but those trees MADE that hole tough.

Winston,

As it turns out, something came up and I won't be able to make it to the tombstone round on Sunday morning.  However, if you would like me to move baskets prior to this weekend, please PM me or post on this thread.

Thanks

Sounds great. WYE could definitely use some work. I played it tonight (first round in two months - broken leg) and it is THICK. As always, erosion is taking more of a hold, but a little brush clean up and new tee signs will make things look a lot better.

Would you like me to move the baskets short/long for this event or leave as is?  I know I haven't moved baskets in ages out there, but Theiss may have.  Holes with more than one placement include: 5, 7, 8 and 9. We had another placement for 12, but the city took it out.  Also, as you probably know, you'll need to clarify which teepads we are supposed to throw from on Sunday because there are a few long tees and/or flypads (whether or not they have stayed intact or not I don't know) including holes 4, 5 (parking lot), 6, 8, 12, 14 (two different tee boxes)16, 17 and 18.  Lastly, there are a few mandos that can come into effect if you want on holes 2, 5, 6 (depending on tee box), 7 and 11.

I'm sure you've taken all this into account, but wanted to make sure you had all of the information if it had not been given to you already.

Thanks!
