General Banter / Re: The year 3000 disc golf predictions
« on: December 07, 2016, 06:46:52 PM »
By 3000, the effects of global warming raise the oceans by 15 feet. Add the decrease in land to the increase in the population...and land becomes a premium. All avaliable land not used for housing is designated for crops. Disc Golf becomes an indoor sport.  Using computers and graphics. The plus'll never lose a disc. ..and you can play an unlimited number of courses at the same can even create your own course on the fly...and no waiting for the slow group ahead of you...some of that enticing?...but in the end...this "IS" the golden age of disc golf! Enjoy! Tongue in cheek of course. :)

I think someone said there's still a chance for a course at Blackhoof Park by Lake Lenexa. It's been on hold for about 7 years. Although it's not shown in the future plans anymore.

Well I lost one quite a while back on #10 in the trees on the right. Black with a PDGA stamp...I assuming mine would have been found a long time ago...

Thanks. I'll probably take it  to DGW. I don't get it to  Young that often.

Found an Elite X  Stratus on hole 10 down by the water.  It  says " The  But-trick"  on the back.  Also has some insect face drawn on it.

Also found a green Blizzard Tee Devil on hole 18  fairway  with "DANC"  on the inside rim.

Jack, I handed this disc over to Halbaby. So if you see him at a Board Meeting or Course he should have it in his car.

Found a white JK Pro Aviar-X Putter 170g behind the 1st tee at SMP. Some of the info underneath has been scratched out with a Sharpie. What I think I can make out is "Please return to Disc Golf World Thank U" . Looks like a PDGA # 34382 . If so that would be Steve Hostetler.  In any case contact or post if you would like it back.

I've recorded 2 aces in traditional (ball) golf. Both down in Florida. 6 years of disc and still waiting for my 1st.

Just bought and tested 2 Blizzard Boss's (137,138) out at SMP. Beautiful day out there. Hardly any wind. Now my main drivers are an 172 ESP Nuke and 170 Champ Orc. Both pretty straight, the Nuke slightly understable (no wind). I found these discs very easy to throw. Slightly more stable than my seasoned Orc. For me they were very consistent. No adjustment at all. I had 3 or 4 holes where I threw my longest drives ever on those particular holes. I'm not one that usually jumps on the "Latest and Greatest" Bandwagon but you might want to give one of these a try.

Well this all makes for an interesting debate. I'm sure the image that John McEnroe projected on TV at times appalled most traditional Tennis folk. Yet it was good for ratings and I doubt tennis has been as popular (on the tube) since. You need only to look at today's TV lineup to realize that brash and maybe obnoxious sell. While I don't watch it, Reality TV is anchored on our channels. Now I'm not saying that there should not be behavior standards. In fact I think there should. I grew up in the 60's and early 70's when spiking the ball, touchdown dances, trashing talking...etc were not that prevalent. The whole idea of drawing attention to one's self during a game is very foreign to me. It was the phase "taking the game to the next level" that got my attention and I'm focusing more on that than if folks can smoke on the course. I guess when I hear that phrase I'm thinking "MONEY". I'm just not sure "marketing wise" what is being done to differenciate this sport from any other. "Just like Golf but Different" might not get it done.

Well maybe we should change the name of the sport. After all they don't call Skateboarding "Concrete Surfing". I hope that I'm wrong. I'd like to see this sport become more commercially viable to those that excell. In the mean time as they say, I won't be quitting my day job.

I can't see this sport ever being a "big time" sport commercially. It has nothing to do with smoking or not smoking. Shirts or shirtless. In fact those 2 things might differenciate this sport from it's larger more commercially succesful brethen "ball golf". Most folks think that if we act like ball golfers and dress like ball golfers the sport might take off. So what's the difference from the former other than the fact that we are chucking a piece of plastic. NOTHING!!!! For instance, X Game sports have become popular for the most part because they are doing something different not because they mimic another sport. In fact, I doubt the X Games would have many contestants if there were drug testing before events. I don't think their fans think they go "smokeless" and could care less if they wear a shirt. What we're doing is akin to taking the game of basketball and playing with ping pong balls and smaller basket. Yes it might be fun and it might not be easy but will it ever be as succesful as the origional? Don't get me wrong. I love this sport and enjoy seeing it grow but commercial success? I'm very sceptical.

General Banter / Re: Thoughts on the Grip Equipment disc golf bag
« on: September 17, 2011, 10:38:37 PM »
Celebrated my half century birthday last week with some make that great friends. They all chipped in and purchased one of these for me. My bag prior to this one was a Revo with quad shocks. No comparison! This thing is much more comfortable! Very light weight for the size and still very comfortable with only one of the straps on your shoulder. I probably paid a combined $125-130 for my previous setup. So while $200 isn't cheap if you see someone with a Grip bag, try it on. The difference might surpise you.
